The Father, The Son, and Santiago Nasar The selection of detail used in the autopsy scene characterizes Santiago Nasar as a holy, Jesus-like figure. It is stated during the autopsy that Santiago had a stab wound in his hand and that it looks like a “stigma of the crucified Christ” (75). This comparison of Santiago’s wounds to Jesus’s implies that the two are similar in a way. Both individuals died an involuntary, sacrificial death for something they didn’t do, but while Jesus died for human sin, Santiago died to restore the honor of the Vicario family. Moreover, Jesus’s death allowed the human race to be forgiven for their sins and live a new life and Santiago’s death allowed Angela Vicario to, in a way, start over and move on with her life.
