Description of Client Katie Bettencourt is a native to Idaho, born in Nampa, Idaho. Born in 1989, Katie grew up youngest of five siblings. Now, Katie currently lives with her boyfriend and their dog in Boise. She currently attends Boise State University to get her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.
Summary of Discussion My interview with Katie involved many positive questions, which involved school, family, and personal life. However, Katie expressed negative points that have affected her life throughout the interview. When discussing school, Katie discovered Sociology in High School and found that to be her favorite subject. Out of High School, Katie went to Treasure Valley Community College to get her associates degree, however, found no motivation to be a good student. When she started back up at college, Katie pursued what she calls her greatest accomplishment Katie found herself on the Dean’s list. I first asked how her parents have influenced her, and then I asked what family meant to her. Katie told me that her parents always showed her that you don’t have to go to college to be successful. Neither of her parents went beyond High School, therefore, they never pushed higher education on their children; however, they made sure that their children knew the importance of college. Family has changed over the years for Katie and her family. When she was younger, she recalls that it was collective, however, when her Dad passed, she feels that her family began to separate. Thankfully, she said they are all starting to become closer now that they are all getting older. Katie believes that as they are all adults, it is an easier transition for them to become a closer
