Upon taking the Keirsey Classic Temperament Report, I was placed into the temperament category “Guardian”, with the subtype of “Supervisor(ESTJ)” The study went further into my personality type and found me to be extremely “Tough-Minded and Scheduled”, while finding me less “Friendly” than average. The other qualities were all approximately average. The temperament of “Guardian” implies that I likely possess traits of; dependability, hard work, strong work ethic, devotion, and more. The Subtype of “Supervisor” takes the traits of “Guardian” a step further and applies them to the career aspect of life. In theory, “Guardians” with the subtype, “Supervisor”, are highly social community minded people, and are likely to take charge in group situations. Often the optimal career lines for these individuals are that of management or administration in a social, political or business scenario. In my opinion, this survey has given a very accurate of my temperament at this point in time of my life. For me, this survey just re-enforced my own opinion of what traits I naturally demonstrate in life and my professional career so far. In situations where I have an interest, I usually assert myself and become a natural leader of the situation as well as assisting others in finding what skills or traits they possess that are of the highest value to the group effort. For example, I regularly play recreation paintball with some of my friends and the UNLV paintball club, and when given the opportunity I, without knowing it, seem to assume a position of leadership on the team to which I have been assigned. I always assist players in finding the formation that helps the entire team perform at its best, while putting each individual to the best use for the cause. One of the guys who plays with us, Sphen Hirsch, had this to day; “You always seem to make good use of the skills of your teammates when we play, and naturally assert yourself to squad leader. The team members even welcome the leadership because they see the results you put forth.” When I interviewed him, his opinion of the study was that it was a very accurate description for the most part. I also interviewed my brother, Tammron Johnson, whom also goes to school at UNLV. He knows me better than almost anyone, and his opinion of the study was that it was surprisingly accurate for the most part, and extremely accurate when it came to how I interact in group situations. As a matter of fact, these classifications seem almost destined for me, as I am currently pursuing a major in the college of Business Administration and I can picture myself in a management position or even as a small business owner. It is my belief that when an individual knows his or her own temperament they are more likely to play to the strengths of that temperament. With that being said however, most aspects of my personality were not a mystery to me and this survey hasn’t changed a whole lot for me. The primary benefit that this survey could have on influencing my life would be to place it in the hands of my future employers and organization leaders. With this knowledge they could likely find the best way(s) for me to contribute to the greater good of the organization. In fact, if all superiors, equals, and those I manage were given this information about me, and all co-workers, it could help in making the company more efficient and effective at whatever that company does. It would also improve the relationships of co-workers who don’t quite understand how their fellow co-workers function in the workplace and in their personal lives. When I gave this information to my interviewees, they had varying opinions on its usefulness. My brother had this to say, “I’ve known you so long… its just listing aspects of your personality that I learned a long time ago over the years.” Ben had this to say, “Yeah, I think that this analysis of your personality makes a lot of sense and could be extremely useful on the field.” After hearing their opinions on the information, I got the idea that maybe this would be a valuable tool to friends and acuaintences, but to family and long-term friends it might just seem like common sense aspects of my personality that they picked up on years ago.
