Ever since I have started to study Geography, I wanted to write a thesis that would be read by more people than only my supervisors and would prove to be useful in some way. A traineeship during my studies as well as various projects and a general interest to discover the ‘mystery’ called India had brought me to the subcontinent several times since 2002, and it was soon clear to me I would focus on a topic in the Indian context. Even before I visited India for the first time I knew that it was not only about the Taj Mahal, tigers and finding enlightenment in some yoga class, but also about development, poverty and caste. Once in India, the contrast between vibrant economic development and widespread poverty became more than obvious, but the idea of caste remained somehow ambiguous. As foreigners are often only able to speak English, they can only communicate directly with those strata of society who also speak this language – most often these are not the poor or deprived of the Indian society, but those at the ‘upper’...

...Karras Blackburn and Kendra Parson experienced a car collision on July 13th, 2015. Karras sat in the driver’s seat, pain written across his usually smiling face. Kendra had somehow managed to get out of the vehicle and hobble over to his side of the Suburban. She had blood dripping from her hairline down to her jaw and her leg was bleeding in multiple places. She was limping around crying and screaming things that couldn’t be understood. At first all that could be seen were the bloody airbags, and the crumpled hood of a blue Suburban. Still in the vehicle, Karras kept calm even though his entire leg had been shattered. He would remain there for another two hours until paramedics had successfully cut him out of the vehicle and rushed him to...

Her hazel eyes were wide with shock. Her loud voice could be heard echoing in the quiet corridors nearby. Her fair cheeks were bright red with emotion. “Keep your voice down,” Reeka Flannigan hissed through clenched teeth, showing that feisty side of her that most people only saw in the courtroom. The esteemed New York lawyer looked anxiously at the door, hoping that all of their other relatives were long gone by now. The hospital had been overwhelmed by Flannigan family and friends all week. They’d come to say tearful goodbyes to Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Flannigan, who was not expected to make it into next week after a bad skiing accident last Sunday. Not only did the adventuresome real estate mogul break too many bones to count, he had yet to wake up from a coma and was currently breathing with the help of a machine. “Did you sleep with your own brother, Mama?” Kendra asked in a lower tone. She looked horrified by her own question. She was. “Stepbrother,” Reeka amended, moving to close the waiting room door, which was something that she should have done before she began to pull...

This business prospered and in 1929 the Feldbergs opened their first retail store, devoted to selling ladies hosiery. Twenty years later, their one store had grown into a chain of women's apparel stores that stretched from New England to Washington D.C. In the mid-1950's, the next generation of Feldbergs - Stanley and Sumner - set out to build upon what their fathers had established - and the Zayre discount department store chain was born. Zayre Stores stood for offering convenience, selection and outstanding value for the whole family. ...“Yunus has changed, not his followers”. This is with this sentence that Grameen Koota’s managers synthetized the model of their microfinance organisation. Indeed, they argued right from the beginning that Grameen Koota was strictly following the Grameen methodology, as it had been conceived in its early days. Grameen Koota was then born to deliver, in a cost-effective and sustainable manner, affordable credit to the poor in Bangalore, making it possible for them to borrow money without being required any documentation, collaterals and transaction history. The purpose of this report will be to analyse how Grameen Koota institution integrates in the Indian framework of microfinance and financial inclusion. One knows the microfinance context in India has soon been dominated by Self-Help-Groups. Usually formed by 20 members, they work as a micro-bank which collect members’ savings and grant them loans. Many cultural and operational differences can be observed with the Grameen model where groups are ruled quite strictly by a MFO: savings are compulsory, loans are granted according to an inflexible logic and reimbursement are highly scheduled. Even though the Grameen classic model has seen the necessity to adapt itself – with the Grameen II model in 2001 – and in spite of India SHGs tradition, to what extent Grameen Koota strictly replicates the original Bengali Grameen model? Have the organization been inspired by Indian microfinance legacy? Is Grameen Koota model replicable? ...

...Include (a) your hypothesis and (b) your method. How a parent disciplines and respond to their child may have great affects on their creative thinking. There are four types of parenting styles, authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved. (Kendra Cherry, “Parenting Styles”) By definition, I would consider myself an authoritative parent. I give my children age-appropriate rules and chores and corrective punishment when they break their rules. I will be focusing on the children’s creativity and which parenting style suppresses it. My hypothesis is that if a parent uses an authoritative style, then the child will become more creative. My method would be to observe families with school-aged children. After I am able to determine the parenting style being used I will have their children take the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT). I will have an equal amount of males and females with the same age from each parenting style take the test. The first style, authoritarian, children are expected to follow strict rules. When the rules are broken, punishment follows. Because these are obedience-oriented parents and live by the rule of “Do as I say and don’t ask questions”, children are not left to express themselves. (Kendra Cherry, “Parenting Styles”) This hinders a child’s imagination greatly and, in a sense, creates little robots. Being a soldier, I know this feeling all too well. We are required to follow orders without question. This is for many reasons, one, of which...

...Relate developmental observations to theory Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Motivation for action was thought to derive from a deprivation that created a disruption to, this homeo-static state. For example, deprivation of nourishment leads to motivation to seek food, and deprivation of interesting surroundings leads to motivation to seek stimulation. In these theories, the main explanatory concept—or motivational mechanism—was termed “Drive,” and it was thought to represent responses to such physiological deficits that aimed to restore homeostasis to the organism. It is based on Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Kendra has a healthy development, she is provided a stable, responsive, and nurturing care-giving; safe, supportive, environments; and appropriate nutrition, preventive interventions such as vaccines for the treatment of diseases; and protection from violence, neglect and abuse. The child has a stable, caring, interactive relationships with adults (family relatives) – any way or any place they can be provided. Kendra’s development is something to do with Abraham Maslow’s theory where he stated that people are motivated to achieve certain needs. When one need is fulfilled a person seeks to fulfill the next one, and so on. This is under the first three stage model of hierarchy of needs, namely: Biological and Physiological needs - air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep. Safety needs that is defined as protection from elements, security, order, law, stability...

...to help time pass while working. Sometimes such actions become too aggressive and make workers feel uncomfortable. harassment is an issue that many business encounter because of violations done by employees. The following information will demonstrate the act of sexual harassment, what classifies acts as sexual harassment, how its prevalent in the workplace, and ramifications that stem from sexual harassment. Background of Case The case involving Koko the gorilla and the Gorilla Foundation involves two former employees and gorilla caretakers (Nancy Alperin and Kendra Keller) who made claims that the foundation’s handlers and supervisor forced them to expose body parts (breast) to Koko to indulge her “fetish” (HRWorld, 2011). After working for the foundation for a length of time, Nancy and Kendra chose not to expose their breasts which according to them was the cause for their termination. Nancy and Kendra were with the company for approximately four months and are suing for over $1 million dollars in damages (HRWorld, 2011). Eventually both parties came to a settlement (HRWorld, 2011). The legal and morale issues that occur within this case are those of feasibility. The Gorilla Foundation has obligations to ensure employees have a safe work environment. This case illustrates that the work environment was not conducive to such a requirement. Even though Koko the Gorilla was the main beneficiary of such actions of the allegations, the Foundation has a responsibility to Koko...

...performance “Family Game Night: An Original A Capella Musical” written by Kendra Phillips at Western Washington University DUG Theater. Family Game Night was produced by The College of Fine and Performing Arts Theatre Department and directed by Mark Kuntz. At first glance, this performance looks like a simple visit to Connie’s boyfriend's family, but in fact we have all dragged into a whirlpool with full of deception and confusion. As the lights dimmed slowly, we have all entered the world created by Family Game Night. The DUG Theater is constructed in the arena style, meaning the audience surrounds that stage area. The Scenic Designer, Mark Kuntz, used the Twister board as the background and the actors represent the pointer. Kuntz putted a chair with arched shelf around in the center of the spinner. While the actors start spinning around the spinner, Mitchell family’s “game” had begun. Luke Mitchell...
