Around five-thousand years ago the first pyramid (there are 4 types; bent, straight, step, smooth) of Egypt was built, it was the largest building of this time, and known as the Step Pyramid of Djoser, who was the king of Egypt at the time, and became an example for historical pyramids, including the Great Pyramids of Giza, and the less well known of Dahshur. The Great Pyramids of Dahshur were built in the 4th century (3rd millennium BC) at the time of the Old Kingdom (however some disagree and say the Middle Kingdom) by Pharaoh Sneferu (2613-2589 BC), this included the Bent Pyramid, the Red Pyramid and the ruined Black. There are a few hypotheses for the reasoning of the slope, one of which is that was to increase stability of the structure to avoid the structure from collapsing, secondly, there are two chamber entrances, each is located above and below the bending, which would mean different floors within the pyramid. Thirdly was that builders did not want to run out of material during the process and by changing the slope they saved much material that could be used for something else. This structure is the oldest pyramid within those of the Dahshur field and Giza field included; however, it is still one of the most intact. In fact the Dahshur pyramids I don’t believe are mentioned within it. However the book gives general information about pyramids and their structure, purpose, and time frames built. The book briefly goes over the Giza pyramids, as well as general facts that apply to most pyramids, such as being used for tombs. However, throughout my research I discovered that the pyramids held a much higher meaning and brought the kings a sense of pride, power and symbolism (which is stated in the book as well in the paragraph below) as well as having different functions and purposes other than a burial chamber to be a staircase to their blessed
