...individuals attribute events. Situational= causality on external factor. Dispositional= causality on internal factor. Fundamental Attribution theory Tendency to over value dispositional factors, undermining situational explanations. Promotes understanding of common errors in explanation. Culturally biased and low in ecological validity. Jones and Harris (1967) Aim: investigate whether people would attribute behvaiors which people had a choice in disposition. Procedure: sample of university students read political student essays that were either pro or anti Fidel Castro. Told some writers freely chose be the pro or anti others were assigned determined by a coin toss. Participants asked to rate how pro/anti the attitudes of the writers were. Findings: participants believed writers freely chose= rated people who spoke in favor have a more positive attitude towards Castro (dispositional). Determined by coin toss= write in pro= more positive. Participants unable to see the influence of situational restraints placed upon writers could not refrain from dispositional belief even though participants were randomly assigned. Evaluation: lead to further research, all American sample, and question ecological validity. Suedfeld (2003) Attribution made by holocaust survivors. ...ABORTION; PRO-LIFE OR PRO-CHOICE Some people believe that abortion is immoral and some people don’t. Morality is an interpersonal conflict over a decision between right and wrong (“Morality”). The question is what reasons people have for their beliefs for and against abortion and whether those reasons are reasonable or not? There are two main groups of people in the case of abortion, pro-life supporters and pro-choice supporters. On the one hand, pro-life supporters, those who think abortion is not right, consider a fertilized human egg a human being from the moment of conception. Therefore, they refer to abortion as murder. On the other hand, the pro-choice supporters, those in favor of abortion, have a different perspective. They believe that a fetus is a human only after birth. The moral difference between these groups encompasses one issue. That is “At what stage is a fertilized egg considered a human being?” According to Peter Singer, there are four general stages that the pro-lifers and the pro-choicers argue about in terms of the standing of a fetus. They are: “birth, viability, quickening and the onset of consciousness” (138). The arguments made by the two groups for and against each of these stages causes the standing of an embryo to be upgraded to that of a child in the long run, as Singer suggests (138). Thus, this paper will examine and analyze the four moral junctures for the status of the fetus -“birth, viability, quickening...

...Recent statistics show schools that promote school uniforms are high in attendance but are lacking in academic excellence. History also shows that in cases involving dress code violations and freedom of expression have ruled in favor of the students. School uniforms create an added cost for families and the impact varies among socioeconomic groups. Although some people believe that wearing school uniforms can be a greener alterative and makes better students there is no proof that it provides a safer, more studious environment. Schools say uniforms promote a more studious environment. Research strongly states that school uniforms promote no self-expression or justifiable increase in grades. With schools that do not require uniforms to be worn a decrease in attendance but a higher grade point average is apparent among its students. The qualities of the school and academics offered should promote the environment not the clothes the school requires the students to wear. School officials say that promoting school uniforms can create less conflict among students because all the students are wearing the same clothes. But recent studies show that conflict or bullying among students is still present with schools that promote school uniforms. In the article, "Dress Codes: The Pros And Cons,” the author explains that even if every student wears the same thing bullying is still going to be present because changing what they wear by making them wear identical uniforms will not break this...

...sexual harassment, but the two most widely recognized are…” quid pro quo and hostile environment. Quid pro quo is the exchange of sexual favors for favorable treatment. This could allow someone to make their way up the ranks in an organization solely on sexual favors and nothing to do with work skills or work performance. Hostile environment is simply put as unwanted sexual advances or sexual jokes. This could make the environment at work very uncomfortable. Having regulations concerning sexual harassment has made the workplace better in many ways. The hard workers and ones who deserve the job will be the ones to make it up the ranks because they will be judged on work performance, not chosen by returning sexual favors. This will also make the workplace more enjoyable, because a person will be able to walk into work and focus on work. They don’t have to deal with judgment and criticism of others based off of their sexual gender. Social Security disability insurance is going to influence staffing because people with disabilties can be hired with a limited list of job requirements. This is going to change the way staffing is done. Someone who is hired with a disability is going to have their own personal set of job requirements they are capable of doing, which is most likely going to differ from some of the other staff I similar positions. ...main focus of this research paper will be on the status of sexual harassment at places of work in the United States. The research paper will be able to investigate the current state of sexual harassment in the workplace in the United States. As it stands at the moment, there is no specific cause of sexual harassment at the place of work. Although there is this notion that sexual harassment is mainly caused by provocative dressing or enticing behaviors by the victims, high chances are that it can happen to anyone, any time and at any place. The victims are left wondering why the incidents happened to them but it is difficult to come up with any good interpretation. On the other hand employees are advised to seek help as soon as possible in cases where they have fallen prey to sexual harassment in their places of work. How do you detect sexual harassment in your place of work?...

...Group 4 Business Ethics March 16, 2013 Question #1 What steps you would take to change an organization culture? Changing an organization’s culture is one of the toughest tasks to take on. This is so because the organization culture was formed over a period of years with interaction between customers, and employees of the organization. Culture change requires commitment, understanding and tools. These are some steps to take in changing an organization culture:- • Be aware of the culture – try to understand the organization’s current culture, the way things are done in the organization, the way persons express themselves in terms of their language and attitudes. Pay close attention to shared values. • Assess the current culture – by assessing the current culture of the organization there are three questions that can be asked: - (1) what should stay, (2) what should go, (3) what is missing. In asking these questions leadership in the organization will be better able to make decisions that to drive change in the organization. • Envision a new culture – this is where you would create ideas of the type of culture that you would want your organization to have. • Share the vision with everyone – after envisioning the type of culture suitable for the organization, the vision has to be shared with every member of the organization in order to have full participation in carrying forward the change. • Get support from leadership – ensure top management...

...phones to perform various functions (Anderson, 2001). A cell phone is a great device, it can be used in education such as downloading educational apps and other educational materials (Anderson, 2001). In this case, there is a debate on whether they should be restricted in schools or they should be allowed as part of reference materials for their learning. Cell phones in classes will always cause distraction when lessons are on session, most of the students will spend most of their time playing games and watching videos instead of concentrating on their study, which leads to poor performance. The use of cell phones in schools leads to cheating. Students will use phones to send answers to questions to their friends, we have had so many cases of students been caught cheating using their cell phones. Cell phones are expensive and not everyone can afford, students without will be tempted to steal (Bianchi and Phillips, 2005). Everyone has his or her own opinion hence would like to be involved in the discussion to give to his or her own views about the topic. The best audiences to be involved in this kind of discussion are the students. The importance of the chosen topic is to give evidence on how students understand the social impacts of cell phones on life or work balance. The study is designed to provide the students with information on how the use of cell phones in schools may affect them positively or negatively. Outline The Use of Cell Phones in Schools 1. ...org/what-we-do/legal-resources/know-your-rights-at-work/workplace-sexual-harassment/ INTRODUCTION Sexual harassment has been an ongoing problem for decades. ...banned after 16 weeks of pregnancy and many doctors will not perform an abortion unless of a medical reason. Some small clinics such as Planned Parenthood will perform these abortions. When going to these clinics there are pro-life and pro-choice groups usually standing out front with signs. Pro-life groups favor greater restrictions on abortion. They argue that a fetus is a human being with the right to live, so abortion is murder. Pro-choice groups argue that a woman has certain reproductive rights especially the right to choose whether to carry a fetus or not. My own is that I think if there is nothing wrong with the fetus when the woman goes to her ultrasound appointments and nothing shows up and there’s no medical problems with the woman then she should keep it. One of the most common reasons a woman chooses to abort is because they want to delay a pregnancy because they are too young. However, in some cases a woman becomes pregnant from being rapped and decides to abort the baby. They do not want to live with the reminder of the rape so keeping the baby would be too hard for them. I do see the reasoning behind this, but I still believe that they could love the child and not regret their decision to keep it. According to two doctors who conducted one study, Sandra Kathleen Mahkorn, M.D. and William V. Dolan, M.D. revealed that 78% of the 30% of women who had abortions after their rapes felt that they had made...

...DEATH PENALTY ARGUMENTS: Deterrent or Revenge (Pros and Cons) INTRODUCTION What is Capital punishment? Capital punishment is the death penalty. It is used today and was used in ancient times to punish a variety of offenses. Even the bible advocates death for murder and other crimes like kidnapping and witchcraft. When the word death penalty is used, it makes yelling and screaming from both sides of extremist. One side may say deterrence, while the other side may say, but you may execute an innocent man. Today, one of the most debated issues in the Criminal Justice System is the issue of capital punishment or the death penalty. Capital punishment was legal until 1972, when the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional in Furman v. Georgia stating that it violated the Eight and Fourteen Amendments citing cruel and unusual punishment. However, in 1976, the Supreme Court reversed itself with Gregg v. Georgia and reinstated the death penalty but not all states have the death penalty. Thirteen states do not have the death penalty: Alaska, District of Colombia, Hawaii, Iowa, Main, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. AGAINST THE DEATH PENALTY (CONS) Death Penalty Fails to Rehabilitate What would it accomplish to put someone on death row? The victim is already dead-you cannot bring him back. When the opponents...

Campaign contributions as emphasized here discusses the ways in which contributions are made to influence new or incumbent candidates to support a particular agenda based on factors that impact the candidate personally, such as the raising of significant funds to help a candidate be re-elected, or environmental issues to even social issues are of concern. Since the last decade, millions upon millions of dollars have been spent in state judicial elections, primarily by contributors with an interest in the outcome of litigation. Spending large sums of money on judicial elections is not a new phenomenon, but following the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision, the amount spent in these elections will likely increase. Given reported cases of judicial impropriety and public opinion polls indicating a loss of faith in the judiciary,...

...ceased to exist if their mother’s had an abortion. Imagine the civil rights movement, science or humanitarianism without them here. Pro-life is the best way to treat conception because today’s children can be tomorrow’s contributors to society. Over 46 million abortions were done from 1973 because of the Roe decision. In the decades after young women have realized abortion could have been the decision of their mothers as well this belief is as so known as the survival of abortion according to Hanz Zeiger a student at Hillsdale College and author of Reagan’s Children. The babies born between the 1981 and 1989 are “standing up for Roe’s babies” says Zeiger. With every abortion our generation is fighting back with more young women choosing pro-life instead of abortion. Abortion comes at a high price to the well being of a woman’s physical and mental health. According to groups like National Right to Life’s American Victims of Abortion “Women deserve better”. The post abortion mental torment can prove to be life changing experience causing severe insecurity and guilt. Abortion in many causes is more strenuous on the body then going though the entire pregnancy. According to the studies of Glamour magazine young women are choosing life more then abortion tactics. The survey says women from the age 18-29 are more in favor of pro life. The polls suggest that in this age groups opinion about abortion being permitted all dropped 21 percent in 1993 to 35 percent in...

To make things worse they also receive better political representation when it comes to dealing with social issues. These political benefits are given because the wealthy contribute heavily to political campaigns.
