...Assignment # 4 King Jewels Ethical Leadership in Practice By: Mark A. Cowan ACC 499 Strayer University Senior Capstone-Accounting Dr. Monica Pendergrass Abstract The purpose of this paper is to discuss the Hong Kong company of KingJewels. Their ethical leadership in practice will be discussed at length. The author will attempt to discuss the leadership style and how it contributed to unethical behavior, proper segregation of duties may have prevented the fraud, the company’s compensation program that probably contributed to the fraud, how culture may have influenced the behavior towards revealing the fraud, and recommendations of how Mai Won should proceed. To understand the company KingJewels, let us discuss a little history of the company and its owner, Andy Wong. Mr. Wong started in the jewelry business from the bottom as an apprentice and worked his way to the top as sales and sourcing manager of an international jewelry before starting his own business. “He recognized that his company had the potential to expand and internationalize its business further by focusing on jewelry design and technology, and on overseas markets. KingJewels specialized in sourcing, trading, and manufacturing precious gemstones. It prided itself on its fashionable and affordable jewelry products. While Wong had successfully turned KingJewels into a highly competitive business, he left KingJewels internal management to Clement Tam, operations manager”. (Capstone p...

...and the novel becomes a form of “reflective characterization.” The narrations give insight to the characters personality by the syntax, imagery, stream of consciousness they employ. Often each narrative also offers a different perspective of another character or affirms the self-characterization of another character. Darl, who narrates most of the story, seems to be the most cerebral character. Darl’s character is particularly interesting because he is indeed mad in some ways but yet he is also the healthiest and most realistic of all Bundrens. He has a strange sense of what’s going on like that of Benjamin Compsons in The Sound and the Fury. He senses Addie’s death even though he and Jewel were getting lumber at the time of her death. He also knew that Dewey Dell was pregnant and that Jewel was an illegitimate son. Dewey Dells narration also supports Darl’s psychic abilities. Like Benjamin, he has the ability to communicate without words. After going into the secret shade with Lafe, Dell realizes that Darl knows what she has done. “I saw Darl and he knew. He said he knew without the worlds like he told me that ma was going to die without words,” (page 26). In a moving scene (page 204) he tries to explain Addie’s death to little Verdamin. Through Vardaman’s narration we can see Darl’s calm, grounded approach to explaining death to Verdamin. His attitude to death is complemented by his sense of self-identity, clearest in the family. His affirmation of Addie’s death makes his...

...Lillian Anderson Prof. Terri Hoenstine June 4, 2010. Assignment #4 ACC – 499 Page 1 of 5 Case – King Jewels: Ethical Leadership in Practice 1. Discuss how the leadership style may have contributed to unethical behavior. Leadership style refers to approach of providing direction, implementing plans and motivating people. In 1939, Kurt Lewin led a group of researchers to identify the different styles of leadership. The three major styles of leadership are (a). authoritarian – when leaders tell their employees what to do and how they want it accomplished with employee input; (b). participative – when the leader includes one or more employees in the decision making process and (c). delagative – when the leader allows the employees to make the decisions. The leadership style of Andy Wong may have contributed to unethical behavior in the following ways: (1). His personality may have played a factor in his leadership style. He was described as being gregarious (fond of the company of others; sociable) and entrepreneurial (a person who organizes, operates, and assumes the risk for a business venture). The business was founded by himself and his wife and it started off as a two-person company. This lets us he was very passionate about the company. He had a hands-on leadership style and this motivated his staff. These qualities are good but are not good enough to prevent unethical behavior. (2). As the C.E.O of KingJewels...

举个例子,我不光唱歌,而且跳舞怎么说?i not onle sing,but also dance,改动一下,not only do i sing,but also dance. 由于怎么说?as a result? 牛人用as a consequence. I got up early,therefore i waslate. 土人也许会用better and better,牛人只用一个单词:enhance 造个句子 we need to enhanceour English,就等于better and better。 I have a thought that...... 厉害一些的人会用:It is reported that...... There is a piece of news that 同样的意思,但明显比I hear that要帅!

...cultural figures, which are central focuses of the painting. The Queen’s alluring white dress accentuated with the purple banner creates connotations of royalty and prestige. Equally, the garments that Barker has depicted on the Ambassador are atypical to the attire worn by Britons in this period. However they are by no means less significant. The Ambassador wears an animal skin cape, lavish jewellery, and fine linens; Barker has localised England’s prestige to the Ambassador to indicate to the viewer that he is clearly of importance. This then raises the question about the fact that this is an Ambassador, as opposed to the actual leader. One could then argue that the garments worn represent the King. This then sparks the question of what the context was that disallowed the actual King to be there. Were there domestic problems he had to tend to? Was the Ambassador merely collecting “The Secret of England’s Greatness” as a means to resolve the greatness that they might had lacked? Divinity is also explored because of how the non-physical concept of “greatness” is presented as something religious– a Bible. Given the context of a vastly religious 19th century Britain, the Bible is probably an allusion to God and his glory. However the fact that “greatness” is portrayed as a physical entity, leads one to think that it can be achieved by man. This is consolidated by the fact that Queen Victoria is handing the Bible to the Ambassador. It is a form of evangelism per say, declaring...

...A lot of folks depict paradise as lying on some remote island overlooking a stunning sunset while feeling the sand between their toes. My conception may be somewhat different than most people. I can envision beaming music, and people as they frolic. Where the party never stops, it keeps going and going like the Energizer bunny. The scenery will be the most divine of anything on this earth, more so than overlooking the flawless, sugarcoated snow covering the Rocky Mountains. Oh, my, the aroma coming from that city- like freshly cut bouquets of flowers on a sunny spring day. Forget about having a foul taste because it will leave only an everlasting angelic savor in your mouth. Paradise to me is cheerful music and people also, it has the most beautiful scenery one can only imagine. All the masses of people would start getting together holding hands in a circle with Jesus in the middle and start singing in a heavenly language. The city is filled with thunderous sounds of every instrument one can imagine. Then, the angles pick up tambourines hitting them in rhythm along with the music, while people start dancing before the Lord. All of a sudden, Peter, Paul, Job, and all the great men and women of God lift up their hands and sing out with all of their capacity to Jehovah Jireh. A rainbow is prolonged across the land. It has the brightest colors of blue, yellow, pink, and orange. It is so beautiful; the majestic colors make one want to reach out and touch it. A huge waterfall...

This relic is a symbol or metaphor that came from medieval story tellers (Borg). The word “Grail” is derived from the Latin word “gradalis”, signifying a step-by-step descent (O’neal). It is thought of as source of healing, inspiration, and vision. Some say that Joseph of Arimethea knew the secrets...

...As a child of a King, I don’t doubt that the young King Tut was fiercely guarded. When looking at King Tutankhamun’s (Tut) mask, it easy to see that he was young. Yes indeed, he was only 19 years old when he died. King Tut was by far from being the most powerful of the Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs, however, he is the most celebrated Ancient King, now three thousand years after his death; people are still incredibly fascinated about the circumstances surrounding his death. Speculation about the possible cause of King Tut’s death have been swarming around since Howard Carter, British archaeologist discovered the tomb in the Valley of Kings in 1922. Designated KV62 (Kings Valley Tomb 62), it was the first royal tomb to be found almost intact (Kmtsesh). Along with the discovery of his mummified body, his tomb was stuffed with treasures and artifacts. One theory regarding King Tut is murder. Many scientists believe the fracture to the back of the skull which was revealed in an X-ray of his mummy is due to being hit with a blunt object. There is no need to jump to conclusion about this theory. Some scientists are convinced the he was not murdered; however, some are convinced that the crack in the skull was accidental, caused during the process of mummifying the body. If proper care was not taken during the initial process, they are many things that could have occurred such as his corpse being dropped on the ground or a sharp instrument falling on his skull. The two prime suspects...

...power is through blood shed. For instance , “Macbeth: I have done the deed. Didst thou not hear a noise [Murdered King Duncan](1.2.14). In other words, by Macbeth murdering King Duncan he has assured his ascension to the throne. Furthermore, “If ’t be so, For Banquo’s issue have I filed my mind; For them the gracious Duncan have I murdered; Put rancors in the vessel of my peace Only for them; and mine eternal jewel Given to the common enemy of man, To make them kings, the seed of Banquo kings! Rather than so...”(3.1.63-70). Here, Macbeth contemplates Banquo's death in order to assure the throne for himself and his progeny. Furthermore, the second method individuals use to obtain power is through manipulation of others. For instance, “Lady Macbeth: Yet do I fear thy nature; It is too full o' th' milk of human kindness To catch the nearest way”(1.5.3-5). Here, Lady Macbeth expresses her discontent on how Macbeth is too kind and, as a result is not capable of killing King Duncan. Hence, manipulating Macbeth into killing King Duncan in order to become King of Scotland. Additionally, “When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would Be so much more the man”(1.7.49-51). Essentially, Lady Macbeth manipulates Macbeth by disparaging him so, Macbeth will do as she pleases. Eventually Lady Macbeth succeeded in manipulating Macbeth to kill King Duncan. Moreover, the third way individuals obtain power is through betrayal of their morals and their allies...

...Leonard Lowe HUM 111 February 2, 2014 THE TOMB King Tut’s tomb was discovered in November 1922, it is said to have been undisturbed for over 3,000 years. There was a rumor that engraved on the exterior of King Tut’s Tomb was the warning, “Death Shall Come on Swift Wings To Him Who Disturbs the Peace of the King”. This did not deter anyone from unearthing this wondrous sight. THE THEORY Tutankhamen became a king at the tender age of eight or nine years old, he was the ruler of Egypt. As ruler his reign only lasted roughly around ten years before his untimely demise. He passed away in his late teens. No cause of death was listed for him as there was no real reason that may have caused the young rulers death. The theories I have found for the cause of Tutankhamen’s death are as follows. THEORY ONE For many years scientists have used every available source of technology in an effort to determine the cause of King Tut’s death. There have been many theories named and many proved wrong. It is not easy to fathom that such an existence and death could not be determined by now. One theory listed is that maybe King Tut died of blunt force trauma, caused by a skull crushing blow to the back of the head. Many believe that his murder happened during his tenth year of his reign while there was a war raging in Egypt. The Egyptians were at war with the Hittites. Could it have been an enemy that murdered this king? Friend or foe? There are many people who have tried...

...(Anderson).” This dagger foreshadows Macbeth’s bloody future filled with death (Mehovic). After this, he claims having heard voices saying “Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep (Anderson).” Both of these events give a guiding vibe of evil to the reader for they take place early in the play. Next, Macbeth plans to kill Banquo; and not long after, he fulfils his wish (Mabillard). Sitting at the dinner table, he says “Which of you have done this (Anderson)?” when observing the late Banquo sitting alongside with them (Mehovic). Even after Lady Macbeth attempts to calm Macbeth down by saying “Feed, and regard him not. Are you a man (Anderson)?” he does not seem to understand that it is just his imagination. The guilt of murdering his former king and former friend has rapidly caught up to him and frightened him to his core through hallucinations (Mehovic). It is safe to say that Macbeth’s guilt is slowly ruining him, but he does not let these obstacles interrupt his reign (Mehovic). However, his wrongdoings will not be worth the negative consequences he is soon to face. Although his hallucinations deeply affect his mental state, his lust for power is the factor that vastly differentiates his...

...our “righteous” King and his cohorts. Scared does not begin to describe my feelings toward this battle that I did not volunteer for. I am just a mere foot soldier, an arrow cushion for the royals. We arrived a week ago today and it seems today will be the day of days. The Kings from our side and theirs are meeting in the middle of what will soon become the battlefield, or should I just call it what it will become, the resting place of most of us. I hope they work this out peacefully with some concessions. I am getting ahead of myself. When we first arrived we came ashore on boat and well let me just say there was nothing here, unless you count the forest. Well most of that went to constructing the Kings quarters. We found ourselves fighting over firewood to keep warm at night, although keeping warm almost came in second to just rest after our days. We work nonstop from dawn to dusk. It is just us “less” noble by birth that do all the manual labor, while the noble keep watch over us while they drink wine and we build battlements and quarters for the luckier. I find myself praying every night for this to be over, one way or the other, and at this point I am leaning toward the other, which would mean that I will never see any of you again. How I miss home. I know we work for a noble but at least we have a roof over our head and some grog and mead for our bellies. And it is warm at night. Well it appears that battle will not be avoided as the King and his cronies...

...Good King/Good Hero Monarchies have existed for centuries now, all of which include citizens being controlled by a king or queen. These citizens may not like their ruler, but it is in their best interest to cooperate and remain loyal. Just as the people are supposed to serve the king, the kings possess some responsibilities with regards to his subjects. The king is supposed to distributes goods among the community, settle disputes, govern laws, and much more. As well as needing a strong form of government for a country to succeed, it must own a courageous hero, one who is devoted to his country. This hero must dedicate himself to his tasks and defeat anything or anyone who comes in his way. All above all a good king and a good hero must protect the people and ensure the safety of the country. Kings are always of the wealthiest in the area and are respected for sharing with those less fortunate. Kings can afford the most valued materials that others simply cannot compare to. “So now, Beowulf, I adopt you in my heart as a dear son. Nourish and maintain this new connection, you noblest of men; there’ll be no thing you’ll want for, no worldly goods that won’t be yours” (945-949). Kings bought goods for their people and swords for their soldiers to demonstrate their wealth. Only kings could buy incredibly expensive goods, which impressed others. As well as providing for the people, a king proves himself by offering protection. A king will be respected, well-loved, more if he can...
