The company, which was introduced in 1997, is focused solely on delivering and marketing Kiwifruit. Zespri was founded out of necessity by New Zealand's Kiwifruit growers after the price of kiwifruit declined and the industry faced a disaster. Zespri is owned by 2,700 current and former kiwifruit growers, and is governed by an eight member board elected by the shareholders. In 2008, Lain Jager was elected CEO of Zespri, the first person from inside the kiwifruit industry to be elected as CEO by the board of directors. The focus of this case is the CEO of Zespri Group Limited, Lain Jager, wanting Zespri to increase New Zealand kiwifruit exports to $3 billion by 2025, and how Zespri plans to achieve this. On the way to realizing this commitment, Zespri faces many challenges. From maintaining its position as the leader in the industry which has seen a huge growth globally, especially in China, Italy, and Chile, to the business side of developing strong brands that differentiate from the competition and establish recognition of Zespri's products. We will look in depth at these challenges, and offer possible solutions for Zespri to pursue. Through the...

Its other familiar brands include Hanes, L'eggs and Sheer Energy hosiery; Playtex bras; Kiwi shoe polish; Brylcreem hair products; Jimmy Dean and Hilshire Farm packaged meats; and Champion apparel (Peltz 1). Divested Businesses Analysis Sara Lee divested seven of its units, including: direct sales, U.S. retail coffee, European apparel, European snacks, and U.S. and European meats. The company followed a strategy which allowed it to increase its corporate profits, since most of its business units it retrenched were unprofitable. By 2006, five business units had negative net profit margins and negative operating margins. Four of those units had negative margins of more than 10%, with different units seeing steady or sharp declines in revenues in profits since 2004. Contrary to what has become understood from how the past has evolved, Robert Campagnino, an analyst for Prudential Equity Group, explained back in 2005: “We do have some new health and beauty care products coming and some meat products and we will be adding more (new products) later in this fiscal year,” he said, adding that the company would provide segment-by-segment market share reports beginning in second quarter. Campagnino, however, said the “bottom...

...Zespri is also protected by the New Zealand Kiwifruit Marketing Board which is a single point of entry (SPE) that gives Zespri exclusive powers to purchase, distribute and market kiwifruit in all international markets expect Australia. Rarity: Even though there are numerous kiwifruit growers, Zespri is rare in the fact that it is one of the few fruit marketers that spends a lot of time and money on TV advertising and getting customer feedback which helps them stay competitive. Zespri has its own standards called the “Zespri System” which includes standards of quality, food safety and traceability. Zespri is also a price setter rather than a price taker. Therefore, Zespri is rare compared to other kiwi producers because of their unique systems to ensure efficiency and the best possible kiwi...

...Zespri Group Limited is a grower owned main exporter of New Zealand grown kiwi. New Zealand was the world’s third largest kiwifruit producer and held a 30% share of the global trade market. Zespri had experienced strong growth in Asia where consumers were willing to pay top prices. Zespri had strict growing standards, quality control systems and invested in consumer branding and innovation. Kiwi fruit came to New Zealand in 1904, it was discovered that the monotonous soil and temperate climate produced high yields of large fruit, which once harvested in the fall ripened over a long period of time in the winter. With increased production, growers needed to find new markets to sell their kiwifruit. In the late 1970’s commercial growing started in Italy, France, Japan, U.S., Chile and several other countries. Since 2000 the world production of kiwifruit had increased by 75%. The four largest producers of kiwifruit in 2010 were China, Italy, New Zealand, and Chile. Zespri’s Objectives: Zespri was the leading marketer of kiwifruit worldwide and there main objective was to maintain its leadership position and to meet Zespri commitment to increase New Zealand’s kiwifruit exports to $3 billion by 2025. In order to do this there global sourcing needs to triple in size. Another one of Zespris goals was to help growers adopt the best technology and growing practices. Zespri focused mainly on growing great tasting, healthy, growing the number of people around the world who regularly enjoy...

...back with some degree of satisfaction to the positive uptrend in the last couple of years to various initiatives taken by the brand team to recoup some of the lost ground. Despite his pre-occupation with the "100 shining years" celebrations going on for this life-touching brand that had for long added an early morning glimmer to shoes, he was keenly working towards finalising the strategic shifts in the marketing strategy of the brand to take it to the next orbit. The journey of Cherry Blossom (Cherry) as a brand had begun a hundred years ago and had seen many ups and downs. For a long time till mid 1990's, it was the dominant category leader, with virtually no competition, and a market share of about 75%*. Market environment changed when Kiwi emerged actively as one of Sara Lee India's core brand. The changing shoe care habits of consumers and growing popularity of new shoe types further changed the market environment for Cherry. By the end of 1990's, Cherry was losing its shine. The brand had lost its market share steeply from 1999 onwards, and by 2002 it fell to a low of 61% - a drop of 12% in market share. A series of measures helped Cherry to fight this serious erosion to its leadership position, and the slide was arrested in 2003. From there onwards, many active efforts helped the company regain some of the lost ground, and gradually, Cherry’s market share inched up to above 65% in 2005. The brand team’s endeavor now was not just to redefine the brand but also re-evaluate...

...What is a penguin? Many people over the years have asked that question and found their answers by researching. Their finds have helped people answer that question. A penguin is a flightless bird. Flightless birds do not fly and do not use their wings other than to swim. Penguins spend most of their life in or near the ocean. Penguins waddle because of their incredibly short legs which are extremely close to their back. Some can toboggan to get around on patches of ice. Tobogganing is sliding on its stomach. It is a faster more effective way of getting around on the slippery ice and tightly packed snow. The body of a penguin is covered in short thick waterproof feathers. They are tall missile shaped animals with very short legs that cause them to waddle. Penguins can have a great range of color. Some colors they can be are: black and bluish gray with white or yellow undersides. Penguins live in cold areas and have thick layers of fat to keep warm. They also have a thick layer of long feathers underneath the short waterproof ones. Penguin’s beaks can be 4 different colors they are black, red, bright purple, and orange. Their feet are also very colorful they can be 3 different colors, black, blue , pink. They can range in size from 3"7 to 1"2. They are strangely shaped they have big heads and short necks , they have an elongated body wedged tails and webbed feet. Penguins have many different senses most of them are sharp and keen.
