There are many different ideas and concepts of how humans came to the earth. Some believe in the theory of evolution, and others believe in a higher source who put us all on this planet. Scientific or not, everyone believes in something and today I will be talking about one theory that Archaeologists proved to be true. This all began at a site called Laetoli, where these Archaeologists have found footprints that led them to answers to many of their hypothesis. I plan on telling you all about these footprints in three different ways. It was about how Mary Leakey, who founded these footprints, dated them. These footprints got fossilized because of a volcanic eruption, the lava from this eruption turned into a cement like texture because of the rain. Whoever left these footprints walked through the right place at the right time because they were very well preserved in the cement. The way that they dated these were by potassium-argon dating and stratigraphy. As we learned in class potassium-argon dating is when you can date volcanic rock but not any other fossils. Stratigraphy dating is when you date by going back on layers, the lower the layer is the older it is. After using these dating techniques they found out that these footprints are about 3.7 million years ago. These footprints were interesting because the shape of them weren’t ape or chimp like, they were more shaped like human feet. These footprints had an arch in the sole of the foot which is like modern humans have so it was fascinating to see that. They were also taking the same kind of strides that modern day humans do. What I mean by this is that the way they took steps were from heel to toe, just like we do now. There was an 80 foot line of these footprints, which tell us that they were going
