...George Herman Ruth was born February 6, 1895, into a poor family in Baltimore. As a child, he was sent to St. Mary’s Industrial School for Boys, a school run by Roman Catholic brothers, where he learned to play baseball and was a standout athlete. At 19, Ruth was signed by the Baltimore Orioles, then a Boston Red Sox minor league team. Ruth’s fellow teammates and the media began referring to him as team owner Jack Dunn’s newest “babe,” a nickname that stuck. Ruth would later acquire other nicknames, including “The Sultan of Swat” and “The Bambino.” Ruth made his Major League debut as a left-handed pitcher with the Red Sox in July 1914 and pitched 89 winning games for the team before 1920, when he was traded to the New York Yankees. After Ruth left Boston, in what became known as “the curse of the Bambino,” the Red Sox didn’t win another World Series until 2004. In New York, Ruth’s primary position changed to outfielder and he led the Yankees to seven American League pennants and four World Series victories. Ruth was a huge star in New York and attracted so many fans that the team was able to open a new stadium in 1923, Yankee Stadium, dubbed “The House That Ruth Built.” The southpaw slugger’s final season, in 1935, was with the Boston Braves. He had joined the Braves with the hope that he’d become the team’s manager the next season. However, this dream never came to pass for a disappointed Ruth, who had a reputation for excessive drinking, gambling and womanizing. Many...

...Some people wonder.. Why is America the land of the free? Why is it the home of the brave? And the bad thing is, not all Americans even know how to answers those questions. But there is a belief that there is an answer to both, and these are those answers. Why is America known commonly as “the land of the free”? Because America gives you many freedoms, such as the right to vote, or the right to have free speech, and even the right to speak what language, and worship what religion we want to worship. Even those who have committed crimes have rights, such as the right to remain silent, and the right to an attorney. In America,...

...As the United States slowly progresses as a World Power, not only does being a prominent pinnacle country come with benefits; it also comes with horrible remarks, crucial criticism, and at some point falling to the bottom. The seven key figures of the Intellectual Founding Fathers, John Jay: Thomas Jefferson: John Adams: James Madison: Alexander Hamilton: Benjamin Franklin and of course George Washington have titled America with an honorable reputation which is known as “The Land of The Free.” These sophisticated scholars took years to create The United States Declaration of Independence which in the first two sentences contains the line of “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by...

...Pondering this question I have came to the conclusion that I myself would rather live in a world that has no freedom, but as an individual have a purpose. Why do I feel this way? We currently live in a time where freedom is what most people consider “available” to the majority of the human race. Society has groomed individuals to believe that freedom equates to purpose. That freedom is the answer to finding your way in life. That once you find freedom you will no longer feel lost. I want to use the United States (The Land of the FREE) as an example of this theory in play with society. You see that many people of different regions come to the United States looking for freedom. To the people’s surprise, they find freedom but another thing they find is that the people here in America...

...“America--- Home of the Brave, Land of the Free” Have you ever sat down, and really thought about all of the people who have died for our freedom, and all of our rights? I know that I haven’t really thought much about it at all, until today... Many people all around the world take our freedom for granted. Imagine if the amazing, brave, and thoughtful people who fought for our freedom and rights hadn’t fought. Our lives would be nothing like they are today. We would probably still be under Britain's control, and be abused, or demanded on what are every move would be. I know i’m glad that we are a free country who elects are leaders. “I’m proud to be an American where at least I know i’m free, and I won’t forget the men who died who gave that...

America, among a few other countries that have given the people of their country freedom. However if not for the veterans and active serviceman in the military, we would not be able to bear freedom. There is many kinds of freedom which some people take for granted. Firstly, Americans have the freedom of choice. They have the opportunity of being able to choose what they want to do with their lives. Everyone is given an equal chance of being an advocate for themselves. Whether they wish to be a doctor or a farmer, it would not be possible if the brave people in the military who sacrifice their lives for us as a country...

...think a lot should be handed to them without a price. I once read that America use to be the land of the free, homeland to patriotism, but suddenly it has become different in many ways. I will explain through the messages and quotes of a protested poem, how America isn’t what it used to be. Everything will revolve around a poem called “Let America be America Again”`, by: Langston Hughes. “Let America be America again. - Let it be the dream it used to be. Let it be the pioneer on the plain. - Seeking a home where he himself is free. Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed - Let it be that great strong land of love Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme - That any man be crushed by one above.” In this section the author is introducing the idea that America isn’t what it used to be. America was simple a great dream like pioneers on the plain. It seems like the author is saying that America has changed to something that is unfamiliar and new to society. America was a place of love and romance; a place where no king was up to schemes or no man was better than another. “O, let my land be a land where Liberty - Is crowned with no false patriotic wreath, But opportunity is real, and life is free, - Equality is in the air we breathe. (There's never been equality for me, - Nor freedom in this "homeland of the free.")” By the author saying “let my land be a land where Liberty – Is crowned with no false patriotic wreath”. The author is saying give everyone...

...The story of the Western Frontier is bursting with countless experiences of historic events that changed the American Frontier in the eighteenth century. The Western Frontier was a form of civilization rather than a piece of old dusty land. The West was a region whose social conditions result from the claim of older establishment and ideas to transforming influence of free land. Though this claim, a new environment is quickly entered, liberty of opportunity is opened, new development and institutions, and fresh ideals are brought into existence. The desert disappears, the West proper passes on to a different frontier, and a new civilization has arose. The Great West had countless opportunities and problems during the last half of the 1800s. There were mines to seized, an abundant of lands to be preempted; all the natural resources exposed to the wisest and the bravest. As the Western dusty land was being cleared to formed community for the many settlements to seek comforts in the Wild West, but some...

So when the pope said that they wanted to make their sins go away. When they started making their way to the Holy Land they were met by other people that wanted to kill them, but they managed to pass all the drama and made way to the Holy Land. ...am the red man driven from the land, I am the immigrant clutching the hope I seek— And finding only the same old stupid plan Of dog eat dog, of mighty crush the weak.” (Hughes 697) He speaking is for everyone, except the rich and privileged as we see in the line that says: Of profit, power, gain, of grab the land! Of grab the gold! Of grab the ways of satisfying need! Of work the men! Of take the pay! Of owning everything for one’s own greed (Hughes 697) It is important for us all to remember this land is for everyone, not just the privileged. Reading this poem and passing it on to others is a good way to remember what this country initially stood for and what most people are still fighting for. At one time America stood for liberty, equality, and the land of the free. When Mr. Hughes states “Let it be the dream it used to be” and “America never was America to me” we understand that he never has felt America was equal or free, but we also see that Mr. Hughes wants America to fulfill the promises of freedom, liberty, and equality. I enjoyed this part of the poem because it reminded me of why people came to this country and still come to this country. I also hope, like Mr. Hughes, that America can be what was promised someday. “Let America Be America Again” is a very important piece of literature. It reminds us to be free. “A homeland of the free” and free in every way such as being equals, free to get jobs, and to live free are all things we need to strive...

...the decision of the parties entering into a contract then consent is said to be not given freely. Free Consent is very important to our case as there is a scope of misrepresentation that is one of the parties did not have or was mistaken to the material fact of the contract. Mulla and Pollock commenting on this section have observed that the expression “the same thing” appearing in this section means the whole content of the agreement, whether it consists, wholly or in part, of delivery of material objects, or payment, or executed acts or promises. According to section 10 of The Indian Contract Act, 1872, all agreements are contracts if they are made by the free consent of parties competent to contract, for a lawful consideration and with a lawful object, and are not hereby expressly declared to be void. Nothing herein contained shall affect any law in force in India, and not hereby expressly repealed by which any contract is required to be made in writing or in the presence of witnesses, or any law relating to the registration of documents.[1] According to sec 2(h) of the Indian Contract Act, 1872,” An agreement enforceable by law is a contract”. Therefore, though every contract is an agreement, every agreement is not a contract. Section 10 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872 lays down the essentials of the valid agreement. One of the essential elements is that there should be free consent of parties to the...

...Declaration Of Independence, but how true is it really? The United States was not truly, a “land of the free” in any time between the colonial time to the civil war. America has always treated black men, women, and children in such an unfair manner. American landowners bought blacks as slaves. They had these slaves work on their plantations for them and do most of their chores. Most slavery was in the south but that did not mean that blacks in the north were treated like human. Many slaves had said, after they were no longer in slavery, that they would rather die than ever have to go back to being slave again. Many recordings of what formers slaves were found and tell us today how dreadful their experiences truly were....

...Enslaving people of a land they had just conquered was a vital part of making sure their society could function properly. This is exactly what the Spartans did when they took control of the helots. The only people who knew about the area the Spartans had just overthrown were the helots so they needed them to care of the land the way they knew how. Helots also had other tasks that were vital to the community. The helots were an important aspect of society in ancient Greece. The helots existence spreads over the Archaic and Classical periods of Ancient Greece starting at about 950 to...
