The Little House of Laura Ingalls Wilder Laura Ingalls Wilder was an amazing author of the twentieth century. The younger generations rarely recognize her work, however, older generations look up to her as a heroine.
Wilder once stated, “Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all.” The children of this decade will never truly understand the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder, but it is a true belief that her books enlighten children and adults alike of a world before technology, before cars and skyscrapers, and the materialistic values of the people of today. Laura Ingalls Wilder was born to Charles and Caroline Ingalls near Pepin, Wisconsin in the year 1867 on the seventh day of February. She was the second child of the family. Laura grew up in the cabin with her parents, her older sister Mary, and her younger sisters Carrie and
2 Barker 1 Grace. Caroline birthed only girls until the year 1875 when young Charles was born. Shortly after his birth, he passed away of an unknown illness. He passed away on the family’s way to

A swarm of grasshoppers had eaten up much of the crops that the Ingalls worked so tirelessly for. In the fall of 1878, however, Laura and her family moved back to their beloved Walnut Grove where her father found work as a clerk and a bookkeeper for the Chicago and Northwest Railroad. Laura’s family, yet again, packed up their belongings and moved to Dakota Territory, near De Smet Dakota, making a living as homesteaders. Laura Ingalls Wilder began her quest to become a teacher and helping her sister find a school for the blind. In 1882, fifteen-year-old Laura finally began her training. By sixteen, she had received her teaching certificate. As Laura became of age, she encountered a young homesteader.
Almanzo Wilder came in contact with Laura when she was teaching near De Smet one day.
Almanzo had eyes for young Laura and asked her to marry him on the twenty-fifth day of
