PART A
As described in the introduction paragraph of this editorial, “Legalize Drugs-All of Them” the author is a retired police officer whom favors legalization of all drugs. His subjectivity on the legalization of drugs is based on his life experience as an officer. His experience of daily handling situations created by drugs and drug use has molded his subjectivity on the legalization of drugs. He has been witness to many situations involving the subject at hand and has formed his opinion based on past experiences.
The author’s subjectivity has influenced the opinion he expresses in his nonfiction work by illustrating that he feels as if drugs being legalized will help eliminate additional issues that are caused by drugs. His work expresses his belief that making drugs legal will inevitably create a more peaceful place for everyone to live, including the police officers who sacrifice their safety while fighting to keep drugs off of the street while, in his opinion, more imminent crimes need the attention of said officers. His work as an officer gives him a unique outlook on the subject and leads him to feel passionately about the legalization of drugs. His opinion is highlighted through his experience in the field as an officer.
The author’s subjectivity is illustrated throughout his writing in many aspects. Aside from the excerpt stating his life experiences effect on his opinion, it is obvious of his subjectivity through his writing in this editorial. The author uses harsh analogies such as “in declaring a war on drugs, we’ve declared war on our fellow citizens” (Stamper, 2005) to reference the criminalization of drugs in our society. This sentence emphasizes his disgust for the constant struggle they are fighting to eliminate the presence of drugs in our country. His disgust on this war being fought is clearly created by the everyday battle he fought as an officer. The tone set in the paragraph demonstrates that he feels angry that we are treating our citizens as “less than human”. Other harsh words in the editorial such as “hostiles, enemies, fear, loathe, and demonize” help emphasize his point on the negative connotation associated with drug use. He feels that we are attacking the people who have fallen victim to the usage and selling of drugs, while legalizing and regulating drugs, in the author’s opinion, would eliminate all the negative effects. This type of tone demonstrates that he is tired of fighting the fight against drugs, where there are more violent and heinous crimes to focus attention on. (Stamper, 2005) The author expresses his subjectivity through his writing also through his choice of argument and by what he does not say. The author expresses that the city would be “infinitely healthier place to live and raise a family” creating a happy thought for the reader to sell his opinion. He also expresses his subjectivity that when drugs are legalized, that being a cop would be a safer occupation, with greater job satisfaction, showing his desire to face less violence which he associates with the illegalization of drugs. What the author leaves out of the editorial are statistics or theories involving the negative side of legalizing drugs. This demonstrates his strong opinion and the one-sided argument he portrays. (Stamper, 2005)

Paragraphs from Editorial
Legalize Drugs- All of Them
Author: Norm Stamper
In declaring a war on drugs, we've declared war on our fellow citizens. War requires "hostiles" — enemies we can demonize, fear and loathe. This unfortunate categorization of millions of our citizens justifies treating them as dope fiends, less than human. That grants political license to ban the exchange or purchase of clean needles or to withhold methadone from heroin addicts motivated to kick the addiction.
Combined with treatment, education and other public-health programs for drug abusers, regulated legalization would make your city or town an infinitely healthier place to live and raise a family.
It would make being a cop a much safer occupation, and it would lead to greater police accountability and improved morale and job satisfaction

PART B
One aspect of my subjectivity that might conflict with my responsibilities as a teacher in the future would be my religious beliefs. I am not an extremely religious person but I am set in the way I was raised and in certain foundations of my faith. There are many ways in which this subjectivity could negatively affect my ability to be an open and efficient teacher. One of the most obvious ways in which this subjectivity will affect my teaching would be in the teaching of curriculum surrounding the theories by which the universe was created. It is my belief that the universe was created by God, however, it is required to teach students about the scientific creation of the universe. Naturally, my subjectivity may create a minimized desire to explain the scientific creation of the universe to my students. In order to avoid my subjectivity from negatively affecting my teaching and to avoid conflicting with my students beliefs on the matter, I intend to do further research on the subject in order to completely understand the evidence surrounding the creation of the universe in regards to what the curriculum requires to be taught. I will set aside my subjectivity on this matter to allow the students to learn the material as it is intended to be taught and not let my beliefs or opinions affect my tone or choice of words on the subject. This might seem like a difficult task to complete, however, I believe if I thoroughly research and get a full understanding as to why scientists believe the universe was created in the way that they state, I will be able to implement my research and present it in an objective way. I intend to state facts as to what is scientifically known and only present the facts, not opinions. I know that my subjectivity in this matter may also be reflective of some of the student’s subjectivity, but it is important to present all the students with the information required to be learned for their educational experience.

People should choose for themselves what is good for them and for others. As said before, Marijuana is less damageable than alcohol, yet alcohol is legal, and Marijuana is not. In addition, alcohol can be damageable for people that have an alcoholic tendency, but people still consume it since it is socially acceptable. What Are Asa Hutchinson's Arguments To Legalize Drugs

...The debate on legalizing the recreational use drugs included four debaters, two of which argued to legalize drugs, while the other two argued against it. I felt that each speaker differed in character, opinion, speaking style, and even body language. I also felt that they all had very good points, however each of them had a different way of approaching the debate. I think that overall, Asa Hutchinson who argues again legalizing drugs did the best job at arguing and supporting his opinion in this debate. The first speaker, Paul Butler based many of his points on his career as a prosecutor to argue for the legalization of drugs. Butler used real life scenarios and his own personal experiences to help explain his opinion on this debate, making his points easy to relate to. He...

Why Marijuana Should Be Legalized

...Why Marijuana Should Be Legalized Most people believe that drugs such as marijuana, molly and cocaine should be illegal. They say that these drugs are dangerous and that people should not use them. However, we have to keep in mind that people have every right to do what they want to their own body. Of course, by people it is inferred that we mean adults. Children cannot be permitted to use drugs because they lack the ability to fully understand the consequences of drug use. Adults have the capacity to understand the consequences for their actions. It is not illegal to make mistakes or have poor self-regard. If a mentally competent adult wants to use drugs he or she has every right to do so. In the article from the USA Today, “Don’t legalize pot just for the high of it,” the author makes a bold stand against the legalization of marijuana. The article states that it is to high risk to legalize marijuana and should remain illegal. “Modern marijuana can be very powerful, potent enough to make it dangerous to drive or operate other machinery under the influence (Editorial, 2012)”. Last time I checked driving under the influence of any kind of drug poses a risk. People drive while under the influence of prescription medications all of the time. The article states that marijuana is very potent. Legalizing marijuana would provide a higher level of regulation of the farming of the product. The government will have control over its potency. Because the government is regulating it the...

Should Marijuana Be Legalized

...Should Marijuana smoking be legalized? In human history, psychoactive consumption is one of the most ancient practices. Even in our society it is considered an illegal practice, although it is a common habit for some social groups. There have been several attempts to prevent the consumption of drugs. Despite the effort, so far all the policies raised have failed. The war on drugs primarily aimed the controversial drug marijuana, which is still the most used illegal drug throughout. Due to the consumption of this drug, our generation faces the challenge of deciding whether marijuana should remain illegal or must become legal. Usually, people do not know much about marijuana. Everyone thinks it is as harmful as heroin and cocaine. However, marijuana it is fully comparable with legal substances such as alcohol and tobacco, in terms of their impact and damage. I believe that marijuana should be legalized for the reasons I will explain in the following paragraphs. First, marijuana can be used for medical purposes. The use of marijuana for medical purposes is not a recent finding. The use of medical marijuana dates back around 5000 years. There are several writings from Western culture recommending the use of this substance for a variety of health problems and disorders. Today, many doctors agree on the use of marijuana as an alternative medicine because it can reduce the pain of many diseases. Marijuana is useful to relieve pain, nausea, glaucoma, and muscular problems. It is also...

Marijuana Legalization

...All across the United States there are prisons filled with men and women serving marijuana related crimes. Each one of these men and women go through the court systems, and this takes time and money away from our government. Marijuana is the most commonly used illegal drug in the world. Mainly people think of marijuana of the dirty drug out on the street, when actually marijuana has been proven to help people medically. Marijuana is a less harmful drug than alcohol and tobacco, and yet it is still illegal and millions of men and women are serving yearly sentences. A single person is yet to die from an over dose on marijuana, while millions of people die from alcohol and tobacco every year. If cannabis was legalized it would do many great things, such as create millions of new jobs. With the economy struggling right now in American this would help our country greatly. Another thing marijuana would do is eliminate the spending on preventing marijuana use in North and parts of South America. If marijuana was legal it would give our government more time to look at more important issues, instead of preventing the use and selling of cannabis. Our government could focus more on the War on Terror and prevent harsher drugs from entering the U.S. such as heroin, meth, and cocaine. Our society would completely change; marijuana would be off the streets and would be treated probably. You would see a decrease in marijuana use at a younger age because it would be more accepted in our society...

Analysis Of Legalize It All By Derrick Briggs

...Will legalizing all drugs reall make any change in the way things are now or will everything stat the same? In "Legalize It All" Derrick Briggs states that "if some drugs are leagal, then all drugs should be legal". Briggs also believes that "legalizing drugs [will] help reduce organized crime and generate significant national revenue" As someone who doesn't have as much f an interest in drugs, it would make no difference if they were legalized or not, whether drugs are available privately when they're illegal or sold in store when they're legal, the crime rate wont change. Not all people who do drugs fall under the stereotypical type, which is generally jobless and hopeless but these people are stil going to struggle with money especially if they're going to have to pay the big bucks. Having more access to drugs could be beneficial to only the people that do drugs but very non-beneficial at the same time. This being said, the more drugs available, the more money you spend buying those drugs meaning you may have to do more illegal things, like stealing to get these drugs....

Can Legalization of Drugs Be a Solution?

...CAN LEGALIZATION OF DRUGS BE A SOLUTION? YES. In order to succeed in today’s drug war, governments should legalize drugs. The Netherlands is one government which is applying legalization procedure properly and which has reduction in drug use. According to Trimbos Institute’s and also some other research, this reduction is mostly in more harmful and more hallucinogenic drugs which are LSD, amphetamine, heroin and reduction percentage is 30% since 1983*. Currently, in the Netherlands there is not much crime because of drugs. The government provides drugs in coffee shops so there is no need for drug wars. Also, there is a reduction in health problems in the Netherlands. So with legalization drug users’ health problems and crime may be reduced. First of all, health problems is the biggest individual issue about drug users. Because without legalization drug users share their needles and inject drug into their bodies on their own in unhealthy conditions. Because they do not have facilities to use drugs professionally in healthy conditions, they should use drugs covertly. When they share their needles they can get contagious illnesses such as AIDS,HIV or when they inject drugs amateurish and they may have many wounds which are susceptible to get infection in unhealthy conditions. According to Kleber and Califano ‘more than one third of new AIDS cases were among injection drug users who shared needles, cookers, cottons, rinse water’* is the biggest issue about health. But for example...

Theoretical Legalization

...inner-cities, to the suburbs of the heartland, drugs are destroying lives in many ways. Wherever you find drugs, problems are sure to follow. We will examine legalization of drugs from the standpoint of three common sociological theories in an attempt to determine if it would make more sense to continue on our path of banning controlled substances or if legalization would be the key solving our problems. We, as Americans, should step away from our ethnocentric mentality and explore alternative methods to combat drugs in communities across America. Functionalist perspective, as explained in our text book, states, this perspective, “Emphasizes the way in which the parts of a society are structured to maintain its stability” (Schaefer, 2011). With that in mind, legalizing controlled substances would lead to several aspects of society being drastically changed. A counterculture of legalization would eliminate the power of drug cartels. Producing and selling our own drugs via legalization would lead to tax revenues generated from the legal sale and taxation of such substances. These tax revenues could lead to more funding in government infrastructure, such as programs to help addicts kick their habits. Educational programs and jobs could also be generated from tax revenues. The tourism industry would grow as a result as well. Legalization would also bring the drug subculture to the forefront and remove the stigma that is attached to drugs. Crime would be significantly dropped due...

Benefits of Marijuana

...Cliff McGlon ENGL 1101 8:00 Professor Hargon November 9, 2005 Benefits Outnumber The Risks Every year thousands of people die from illegal drug overdoses, but ten times that number die from legal drug overdoses. Given this fact, the classifications for legal and illegal drugs are quite unbalanced. Marijuana is currently an illegal drug. Its primary contents are the cannabis plant and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Along with cocaine and heroin, marijuana is classified as a Type 1 drug, meaning that its use can result in maximum penalties in state or federal prison. Currently, the only states with legal authorization to medically administer the drug are California and Arizona. Marijuana use should be legalized in all states because the reason for its previous abolition is nonexistent today, research supporting its use is kept hidden from the public, it is safer than most legal drugs, it does not contribute to the use of other drugs, and it proves effective in the medical field. The use of marijuana should be legalized because the government’s reason for prohibiting it does not apply today. According to Charles Schaffer, founder of the Schaffer Library of Drug Policy, “Marijuana was outlawed in 1937 as a repressive measure against Mexican workers who crossed the border seeking jobs during the Depression. The specific reason given for the outlawing of the hemp plant was its supposed violent ‘effect on the degenerate races’” (Schaffer, sec. 1). Government used the prohibition...

Proposition 19: Legalization of Marijuana

...marijuana provider and activist with a dream to legalize marijuana; as a result, he created Proposition 19 in 2010 by using his own funding to the sum of $1.45 million. The creation of Proposition 19 was to legalize marijuana in California through regulation and taxation. In essence, passing of the bill would legally allow individuals that are 21 or older the ability to harvest and use marijuana. However, Proposition 19 would only grant legal rights related with marijuana under the state of California and not under federal law. As a result, federal law must still firmly enforce drug laws against harvesters and distributors of marijuana in California. Although Proposition 19 was unable to pass in 2010, Lee ensures that effort to pass this bill will never stop. Proposition 19 protesters argue that legalizing marijuana creates abuse among adolescents. In the article “Why We Should Not Legalize Marijuana”, Dr. Robert L. DuPont stated, “Marijuana is the most commonly abused illegal drug in the U.S. and around the world.” The United States Drug enforcement Agency has classified marijuana as a drug that has an extreme potential for abuse. They categorized marijuana as a schedule I drug which is under the same category as cocaine, heroin and morphine. Parents fear that the legalization of marijuana enables easier access for their kids to obtain this abusive drug. In essence, they believe that marijuana is the gateway to other drugs; therefore, legalizing marijuana would affect...

Drugs

...Illegal Drugs Kara Easler COM/220 July 11, 2012 Barbara Plyler Illegal Drugs is something you hear in the news on a daily basis. Illegal Drugs affect everybody from young kids to grown up adults. Sometimes we see it ruin families and lives of people we care for. This essay is going to go over why drugs should stay illegal and ways we can help people stay off the drugs. First of all let’s talk about some of the drugs and what they are about. The first drug that is going to be talk about is Marijuana. They are trying to legalize that in every state for medical use. There are people who don’t want to see that happen. They want people to realize the effects it has one people. Some of the effects it has on people are “within a few minutes after inhaling marijuana smoke, an individual's heart begins beating more rapidly, the bronchial passages relax and become enlarged, and blood vessels in the eyes expand, making the eyes look red. The heart rate, normally 70 to 80 beats per minute, may increase by 20 to 50 beats per minute or, in some cases, even double. This effect can be greater if other drugs are taken with marijuana.” (Why illegal drugs should stay illegal). Well that could cause a person to have heartache, which is not good. It also gives you a natural high that makes you hungry...
