Lemonade

“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade” was a quote my Dad told me to live by, as cliche as it is. With my innocence intermixed with my naïveté, I did not grasp the concept of what it truly meant nor what it stands for. I nearly took it in literal terms, where I was actually planning on making lemonade with the help of our neighbor, who would often offer lemons to me every time I passed. See, I was unmindful, but that is just inevitable when in the midst of adolescence. As soon as my relatives arrived in the states, my heart was pounding with excitement and bewilderment because I have not seen them in such a long time and
I was not quite sure what exactly to expect. I possessed this ideology of how a person can change in a short amount of time, which is accurate to a certain extent bear in mind, and I was afraid that my own cousin—the one who I shared my childhood with and shared these distinct memories with—was changing. I understand the concept that we were two completely different entities, different beings, but irregardless and simultaneously we were alike in certain ways that I can not quite explain. We were both unmindful, and careless, as children can be. Which is most likely the reason why I share this specific bond with her that I do not have with any of my other cousins? In simpler words, she was genuine and possessed intellect that was one of a kind. I knew that change between the both of us was just inevitability, but either way I did not want it to be detrimental to the bond that we have shared and to the cousin I have came to know and love. One day, I came to witness her getting pushed by her friends for fun or what her friends deemed as "fun".
