...Life Styles Inventory (LSI) Self-Description Suggs MGMT-591-20612 (Leadership & Org. Behavior) January 15, 2015 The Life Styles Inventory (LSI) survey was something that helped me somewhat understand more about myself than I knew before. It also was helpful with confirming other characteristics about myself that I already knew and had knowledge of. After taking the Life Style Inventory survey, I noticed that I scored relatively high in the following areas: Perfectionist, Power, and Competitive. These three were my top out of the 12 categories or characteristics from the LSI survey. I would agree with two of the following, in which the competitive style kind of surprised me. Then again, thinking about the types of decisions and situation that I’ve come across, those three things actually play a big part in how I deal with different things. When it comes down to situations that involve work or even my social life, I have the tendency to show each one of those styles in some way, shape, or form. Within society, those three styles, in my opinion, are needed in order to survive this “cold” world that we live in. If you are strong willed, you will succeed, but if you are weak minded, you might crumble beneath the pressure of society and the beings that live in it. Perfectionist, Power, and Competitiveness are things that play a key role within the aspect of my life and everyday situations. I’ve always been the strong willed being, which always strive for success regardless...

Where am I going? And How do I get there are all questions we ask ourselves in one form or another throughout our lives. America is a place where one is not confined to who or what they are now. In fact one is in control of whom or what they will be tomorrow. In effect one can change the direction of one’s life. The key to doing so is to first understand one’s self. I recently took a life styles inventory survey to learn and get a better understanding of myself. Within the following paper I will identify the results of my survey to include my thinking styles, the impacts of my thinking styles and where I think I developed these styles. Thinking styles “The Life Styles Inventory measures 12 specific styles of patterns of thinking”(Human Synergy’s 2010) and is done by answering a series of questions. The chart following is a circumplex profile that was generated as a result of my answers to the survey. Primary thinking style The Circumplex indicates that my primary thinking style is dependent and is denoted by showing the higher shaded area. The Human Synergistic website (2010) describes that this style is characterized by “A passive attitude, Feelings of helplessness, the presence of rapid change or traumatic set-backs in one’s life, a lack of self respect, which results in...

According to the LSI survey taken and from the twelve given skills I think following are my primary and backup skills. 1) Competitive 2) Conventional 3) Affiliative 4) Self-Actualizing After finishing the survey and result generated the highest percentile I scored the highest is Competitive. ...Life Styles Inventory™ & Myers‐Briggs Type Indicator®: A Comparison of Two Surveys We are often asked: “What is the difference between the Life Styles Inventory™ and the MyersBriggs Type Indicator®?” Whereas both of these surveys help individuals to better understand themselves and others, they differ in terms of what they measure, how they measure it, and how the results are used. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to highlight what we believe are some of the most important differences between these two popular instruments. The Life Styles Inventory™ (LSI) measures twelve distinct thinking and behavioral styles that are distinguished by their orientations toward task versus people and higher-order needs for satisfaction and growth versus lower order needs for security and safety. The LSI builds on the work of a variety of noteworthy psychologists, including Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, Albert Ellis, Karen Horney, Timothy Leary, David McClelland, Harry Stack Sullivan, as well as management scholars, such as Fredrick Hertzberg, Douglas McGregor, and Ralph Stodgill. It is designed to provide individuals with an opportunity to identify specific strengths in their thinking and behavior, as well as any “stumbling blocks” that may be standing in their way. As such, the LSI is used to initiate positive changes in how people approach their work and interact with others— changes that can increase both their personal and professional effectiveness. In contrast, the Myers-Briggs Type...

...LIFE STYLES INVENTORY EXERCISE: A PERSONAL REFLECTION PREPARED BY GM591:LEADERSHIP AND ORGONIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR Professor Lopez May 13, 2012 INTRODUCTION In today’s world it is essential for managers to have critical leadership skills in order to reach their full potential. The Life Style Inventory survey has allowed me to reflect on my own way of thinking and how it influences my behavior. The circumplex shows me that my primary style of thinking is the Convention style. This style incorporates managers being routine, strictly adhering to rules, procedures and difficulty taking small risks. The backup style of thinking is the approval style. In the approval style managers are “overly concerned with being popular and well liked”. I feel that the survey is accurate in the way it describes my management style. PERSONAL THINKING STYLES As a manager in retail sales I definitely see myself practicing both conventional and approval style of leadership. For instance my route to work every day is conventional in the sense that it is the same road every time even though I have the option to take an alternate route. I prefer to take the same road everyday and arrive on time. As the manager I’m required to perform certain tasks at specific times during my shift as described by the company rules. At peak times, the situation may call to abandon protocol but I always tend to stick to the procedures. I agree with the LSI survey because by following the rules, I...

...Life Styles Inventory: Self-Description Antionette Harris Diva0310@comcast.net 1710 Robin Walk Unit. C Hoffman Estates, IL. 60169 GM591: Organizational Behavior 11-7-11 When I first completed the Life Styles Inventory and browsed the results, I felt that my results for the behaviors were accurate but when I reviewed them again to complete my assignment, I felt that only half of the results were accurate. I had to go back to the Life Style Inventory website to see the exact definitions of each category in order for me to fully understand why I was placed in the given categories. I was then able to understand my results. My personal Life Styles Inventory concluded that my primary thinking style and back-up thinking style was Constructive (2 o’clock position) and Passive/Defensive (6 o’clock position). I was able to see how both the Constructive thinking style and Passive/Defensive thinking style can relate to my day to day life but as far as work, I felt the results were less than accurate. According to the Life Styles Inventory, my primary thinking style, Constructive Style, reflect self-enhancing thinking and behavior that contribute to one’s level of satisfaction, ability to develop healthy relationships and work effectively with people, and proficiency at accomplishing tasks. I see myself as constructive simply because I tend to think a lot which leads to me overthinking things at times but the outcome is always good due to me being able to be capable at...

...LSI : Life Styles Inventory MGMT591 – Dr. Hallcom 9/13/2013 The Life Styles Inventory survey, provided by Human Synergistics International, measures a person’s personal orientation toward thinking and behaving. The questions contained in the survey measure twelve styles related to the thoughts and attitudes that motivate a person’s behavior, how a person might relate to others, and how a person might problem solve and/or make decision (“What lsi measures”, 2012). Various psychologists and management scholars, i.e. Maslow, Hertzberg, etc., influenced the questions presented in the survey. The goal is to use the results to examine my strengths and those other areas that need improving. My styles profile is broken into three parts: constructive styles, passive/defensive styles, and aggressive/defensive styles (“Your lsi styles,” 2013). Of the twelve styles, my primary style is ‘achievement’ and my backup style is ‘approval’. These styles have the greatest influence on my behavior. In selecting that slice of my circumplex, the achievement style is characterized by “a focus on achieving a standard of excellence; the knowledge that individual effort counts,” and “a belief in the benefits of asking for and giving honest feedback” (“Your lsi styles,” 2013). Most of the items that comprise the achievement style manifest itself in my personal- and work-life. For example, I enjoy being busy, learning more, taking on difficult tasks and accomplishing them. I pride myself in...

My primary personal thinking style was humanistic and encouraging at 85%. This style has manifested in my life as a compassionate person who sees the best in people and yet still encourages them to be better. I strive to be a valuable member of a team and it is highly important for those who work with me to understand that their differences and point of view is important and accepted. The backup thinking I exhibit is approval ranked in the 57th percentile. This fell in the medium range. Although it is in the medium range, I am closest to the high range. There was no surprise when my approval status was that I seek approval from others and may be resentful...

...The Life Styles Inventory Survey is assessed to allow me to answer the question of, “Who am I, and what causes me to act the way that I do.” It gives an insight to one’s personality and an insight as to how we may treat others. By giving my honest opinion of several questions the results are going to give me an insight on how my thinking styles will influence my behavior as a manager and allow me to use the results for self-improvement. My results show that I Research has shown that the styles measured by the LSI are related to a number of indicators of effectiveness and success, including leadership effectiveness, management effectiveness, problem solving effectiveness, quality of interpersonal relations, salary, organizational level, individual health and well-being, and organizational culture. In my Leadership and Organizational Behavior class, I had the task of completing a Life Styles Inventory Survey to come up with a self-description of my thinking styles. The goal of this exercise is to find out how thinking styles may influence my behavior as a manager and to help me to determine how to use the results for self-improvement. After taking this inventory, my circumplex shows that my primary thinking style is affiliative (2 o’clock position) and my back up thinking style is conventional (4 o’clock position). While I can identify with the affiliative style of thinking, I do not believe the conventional thinking style is a true depiction of the way I think. Part...

...Life Styles Inventory Pedro G. Martinada III PGMartinada@gmail.com GM591 - Leadership and Organizational Behavior Professor Andrew McLeod January 16, 2012 Personal Thinking Styles (primary, backup, limiting) Based on my Life Style Inventory Circumplex, my primary thinking style is dependent, with approval and conventional as my backup style followed by avoidance as my limiting style. All four styles placed me in the Passive/Defensive personal thinking category with People Orientation and Security as my primary needs. According to the LSI Style profile the Passive/Defensive style represent a “self-protecting thinking and behavior that promote the fulfillment of security needs through interaction with people”. I am somewhat surprised that the survey result closely captured my primary thinking style. I think I can attribute my dependent style due to my current transition to the civilian workforce. After twenty four years of active military service I learned to rely and depend on the financial stability along with its rigid organizational hierarchical structure the military had to offer. Now that I have transitioned back into the civilian life and now in the ‘real world’ I tend to think about not rocking the boat when it comes to dealing with my colleagues in my current place of employment. Although I do not think I am overly defensive or aggressive when interacting with people. I do however, tend to listen more to what people have to say. Since I score 91% higher...

...The Life Styles Inventory (LSI) Paper MGMT 591 Leadership and Organizational Behavior Instructor: Barbara Vallera 5/21/14 Introduction The Life Styles Inventory™ (LSI) presents a cycle of questions in the areas of personal fulfillment, tension, usefulness and value of interpersonal relationships and then collates participant responses into a circumflex identifying twelve exact patterns or styles of thinking, behaving and interacting on a personal, management and leadership level representing the essence of an individual's usefulness. The circumflex provides an image of an individual's thinking and behavior and then compares results with those of other individuals having taken the inventory in order to create self-awareness of strengths and weakness in order to create awareness of constructive behavior. The forming base for the LSI represents nearly ten thousand individuals from various organizations, ages, levels of education and from both genders. The results plotted on the circumflex a divided into area defined by higher order and lower order needs of satisfaction and security; and task-centered and people centered orientations. Within these spheres are twelve separate styles (agreement, conservative, reliant, prevention, oppositional, power, aggressive, obsessive, success, self-actualizing, humanistic-encouraging, and affinitive) which are consequently grouped into three exact patterns (success and reliant; self-actualizing and avoidance; humanistic-encouraging/oppositional;...

...better with hands on while getting involved into the lesson and tasked that has to be completed. A person needs to know their learning style to better themselves at learning and to take advantage of the advantages instead of their downfalls. There are many different types of ways of learning throughout your life. As a kid, your parents showed you everything that you needed to learn. Now the time you enrolled into school your teachers informed you and showed you different type of ways to learned stuff. My reasons for seeking a college degree were merely for promotion points to achieve the rank of Staff Sergeant. Once I achieved my associate’s degree, I could have stopped there but realized that right now the military is having drawdowns and looking to put someone out the service. Therefore, I had to sit down and do a real outlook on my life. What do I have to fall back on once I exit out the military? The only thing I ever knew was the Army from day one when I graduated from High School. To be a great role model from my sons I had to make the first step in bettering my education history and not become handicap due to the Army. Also to me going to college not only expands your knowledge but you get to interact with different types of people all across the world that you can learn from each day. One of my learning styles according to the Style inventory results is shows that I learned better as a Tactile Learner. It informs me that my learning strengths are that I remember what I experience...
