LIFE UNDER THE CHIEF DOUBLESPEAK OFFICER The writer, William Lutz takes his time and explains how companies and cooperation have changed the name titles for workers. He also translates to us the true meaning Doublespeaking has over taking. For an example the Garbage Man is now known as the Sanitation Engineer, or Solid Waste Consulter. He breaks down the unexplained terms that are characterized as if it’s a majorly hard job, but it’s really a small easy job. As I read the article I understood him saying how businesses lie their way to the top. In the article the writer describes the similarities of simple jobs with such large meaningless names. Try these titles on for size: Chief Nuclear Officer, Chief Procurement Officer, Chief Information Officer, Chief Learning Officer, Chief Transformation Officer, Chief Cultural Officer, Chief People Officer, Chief Ethics Officer, Chief Turnaround Officer, Chief Technology Officer, and Chief Creative Officer. After all the "operations improvement" corporations have undergone, you have to wonder who all those "chiefs" are leading. (Lutz) In that sense it tells me he think there are, “Too many Chiefs and not enough Indian trying to lead one pack.” I think some of the Chiefs need to be cut in order to gain more workers. The writer takes his time to express how people are terminated or has to resign. Doublespeak is a word used to make thing seem more professional than it really is. Just like a Janitors, they are now called Federal Custodian Workers, Custodial Worker, or Custodial Supervisor. Some people don’t know what that mean. All they know is they got hired for a job and in terms they find out they are just a Janitor. In my conclusion of Williams Lutz article he shared great points and shined truth on the corporate world we are living in. I fully understand how doublespeaking can make a difference.
