Reynolds Pamphlet is Hamilton’s response to the “improper speculations” that were circulating, which accused him of adultery and “illegally speculating with federal funds.” Miranda’s song reinforces Hamilton’s defense against such rumors, “For purposes of Improper speculation, My real crime is an, Amorous connection with his wife.” Through this verse, the audience can conclude that Hamilton indeed confesses that he cheated on his wife with, nonetheless he reiterates that he did not speculate with federal funds.
