This article was very informative and very accurate. My mother use to always tell me the way society is moving that a lot of jobs will no longer be needed and to make sure I have a plan B. Definitely technology is growing and it has become beneficial to lot of companies especially when it comes to data but there is only so much this programs can do. Bigger businesses need the middle manager because of how many things and tasks are needed to be done. I think in the smaller businesses financially they cannot afford any unnecessary management and the middle manager is not necessary. Bigger businesses generally have multiple departments and multitasking is a must, to exclude the middle manager wouldn't be the best choices rather have them on multiple projects.
I work in the academia setting and we have Associate Deans, Deans and Presidents and I can see how they are trying to minimize the middle person by merging departments and minimizing the need of Associate deans but rather just having Deans. In a organization that is so big financially they want to save money for the wrong reasons and it isn't a good idea. The amount of work and reports needed from the data programs, there is no way getting rid of the middle manager would make sense but rather cause more work and more room for errors if this is done. This free area give the middle managers room to gather and brain storm ideas of things that could help the company move forward and find room for improvement. Technology has its downsides as well and although it makes it easier you always have to have a pair of eyes to make sure it is
