Ever heard of the expression “love hurts”, it really does. What is love? To me Love is something you can’t live without it or with it. Love is something that gets you hyped up when you look at special someone, it’s something that makes butterflies fly in your stomach when you talk to talk to that special someone, it’s the last thing you think about before going to bed. Have I have been love? Of course I have.

It was a dark morning, so quiet you can hear pin drop, it was the first day of summer school. After leaving my house I had soon reached my school, as I stepped out of my dad’s car and see huge of pile of students outside the school, my dark silent morning wasn’t silent no more, due to loud chatter of the students. It was just another normalschool day for me or it was until I went to my class and saw a “sexy” girl that made me want to come to school every day despite the fact I had to wake up early or the long distance I had to travel to school or how boring the lesson was to boring, there was something about her that made me crazy, was it love? Not yet it wasn’t, I simply like her for her body and pleasure however this would change soon after.

After two days of summer school, on a bright sunny day, my new friend had started has started to interact with her, he would ask questions and she would answer and I would sometimes jump in and also start a conversation with her. I soon became a friend of her and got to know one another. Being the person I am, I would annoy the hell out, and if you are probably wondering why? This has been my way making friends, every person I annoy soon become my friend and guess what she would enjoy the annoyance, when I would stop talking, she would start and every time she would only say “so…” and I would love it. During the middle of summer school, on a warm breezy day, my friend asked her, “hey! wana go wonderland with this

...English Study Guide E period Beowulf * The Wrath of Grendel Grendel, a murderous, powerful monster lurks outside Hrothgar’s a Danish King’s, extravagant party. God drove out the demons, but they split into many forms of evil spirits, fiends, goblins, monsters, and giants. Grendel is a demonic monster. At night, when the party ended, Grendel ate 30 guests and left blood everywhere. In the morning, the people of Herot and Hrothgar mourned the deaths of Grendel’s victims. However, Grendel came again and ate all of Hrothgar’s soldiers, leaving Herot bare. Hrothgar was incredibly saddened by this. However, God protected him and no help came from the pagan sacrifices. The only protection came from God. * The Coming of Beowulf In the land of the Geats, ruled by Higlac, Beowulf was the greatest and strongest of all the men. He decided to go to see Hrothgar, because he has heard of the horrors Grendel brought. The Geats egged on his adventure, so Beowulf took a crew of the mightiest men he could find and set forth on his journey. They arrived at the Danish shore and were questioned by the guard, who thought they might be raiders or pirates. Beowulf explained they were Geats; his father was Edgetho, a famous soldier and explained why they were there. The guard lets them pass. They enter Herot and are called to see the King. Beowulf is greeted by Hrothgar and explains why he is there. He says he will fight and kill Grendel without fear, and if he looses to...

Literature Through Time

...time it shift and morphs into less power in the divine and more faith in man. Stories began being written by monks and the clergy which in time turned into regular men with stores that focused on more secular matters. English literature fills up the gap between wars, between societal change, you can see time progressing, you can see our values and morals changing, you can see history passing by. In the beginning there was Bede, a philosopher, speaker of many languages, a man who looked around him and saw a world in peril that only God could save, a man full of faith. Time passes and we see Shakespeare, a genius, a man with a queen, a man who rallied against the common, Shakespeare was a man with deep loves and a strong voice. “The Story of Caedmon”, was written during a time when Christian religious dogma was primarily hagiography, “the telling of the life of virtuous men and women that represents what it means to be a good Christian.” These stories are used as a form of reflections on one’s life as to make it better in the future. Religious dogma needed to be made more accessible to the congregation which was widely illiterate, so the stories were written with easy points and then acted out so that the congregation would not only be awake and attentive, but so that these stories of morality and faith would really sink in. “Caedmon” is probably the earliest extant of Old English poetry, Bede tells about Caedmon, an illiterate cowherd, is employed by the Monastery of Whitby,...

William Shakespear

...performance) a relative autonomy in comparison with the central court arts of poetry, prose fiction, and the propagandistic masque. When Shakespeare briefly turned to Ovidian romance in the 1590’s and, belatedly, probably also in the 1590’s, to the fashion for sonnets, he moved closer to the cultural and literary dominance of the court’s taste—to the fashionable modes of Ovid, Petrarch, and Neoplatonism—and to the need for patronage. Although the power of the sonnets goes far beyond their sociocultural roots, Shakespeare nevertheless adopts the culturally inferior role of the petitioner for favor, and there is an undercurrent of social and economic powerlessness in the sonnets, especially when a rival poet seems likely to supplant the poet. In short, Shakespeare’s nondramatic poems grow out of and articulate the strains of the 1590’s, when, like many ambitious writers and intellectuals on the fringe of the court, Shakespeare clearly needed to find a language in which to speak—and that was, necessarily, given to him by the court. What he achieved within this shared framework, however, goes far beyond any other collection of poems in the age. Shakespeare’s occasional poems are unquestionably minor, interesting primarily because he wrote them; his sonnets, on the other hand, constitute perhaps the language’s greatest collection of lyrics. They are love lyrics, and...

Classic Texts Will Never Go Out of Style

...Marlowe. Their literature reflected free thinking, historical, philosophical, and religious influences of the time. William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe used Aristotelian tragedy, in which a great man is brought undone by a fatal flaw in his own character. In these types of tragedies the characters’ misfortune is brought upon by himself, not by vice. This was a concept portrayed 500 years ago yet rings true today. People are not flawless and most misfortunes are brought on by some error in judgment. Examples of characters with this tragic flaw include Marlowe’s Dr. Faustus and Shakespeare’s King Lear. Shakespeare’s ‘The Tragedy Of King Lear’ must be taken in context. Before the renaissance period the only form of drama was the occasional religious mystery play. The plays of the renaissance period drew away from the religious theme. As a result there was a huge expansion in the range of subjects that the authors wrote about. Thus the tragedy of the character coming undone by flaw not by evil, was seen in the plays. King Lear’s basic flaw is his test of his daughters superficial love over real love. He values appearances over reality. In the play, King Lear does not ask “which of you doth love us most” but rather, “which of you shall we say doth love us most”? Marlowe’s Dr. Faustus can be compared to Shakespeare’s King Lear. Faustus represents the spirit of the renaissance, with its rejection of medieval, god-centered universe, and its embrace of human possibility...

Cinderella (1950)

...When I was little, the fantasy behind the main character’s dreams was beyond magical that it took my heart for all Disney movies and all their songs. One of the main themes the film Cinderella (1950) portrays is how the “Dreams come true.” However, when I watched Cinderella (1950) again, my attention was brought to this one scene of Cinderella at the grand ball (51:24-56:00). Disney put out a branched out theme of when the main character’s dreams come to face the reality. The scene starts with Cinderella dancing with her Prince Charming at the ball to a soft music that allows both sense of magic and elegance to step in. This diegetic music played by the orchestra at the ball goes well with Cinderella’s flowy dress as she smoothly slides across the fancy floor. In the music, the heavy bass played by Cello gives a palatial feeling. Also when the couple starts dancing, the spotlight is turned on them, which makes it seem like if Cinderella is dreaming which related to Disney’s theme “Dreams come true.” In the middle of the dance, some diegetic sound is added to the music when the scene switches over to the king and his doorman. In this quick shot, not only they have a quick dialogue but also a breaking noise of the doorman’s magnifying glasses. After dancing at the ball, Cinderella and Prince Charming gracefully dances out to the garden where they are by themselves. During the scene, the diegetic music played by the orchestra slows down as Cinderella starts humming. However...

How Is Love Portrayed in 'Heart and Mind' by Edith Sitwell

...How is love portrayed in ‘Heart and Mind’ by Edith Sitwell? In the poem, ‘Heart and Mind’ by Edith Sitwell, love is portrayed in a variety of ways, in fact portraying a couple of different types of love. The poem has no rhyme scheme, hence is in free verse to demonstrate the irrevocable difference of our minds and heart when it comes to love. This is presented by the analogy where the lion is speaking to the lioness. The love we observe is an erotic love, also supporting the theory that the lion symbolizes men and their inability to love from the heart, their preference of lust being made clear. This is expressed by the metaphor “raging fire” which exhibits the passion and consuming power of lust in regards to eroticism men display. Through the continuation to the next stanza, we now notice the change to heartfelt and pure love. From the quote “greater than all gold, more powerful…is the heart”, we observe how love created in the heart is more powerful than lust. Pure love from the heart warms us due to the personification “that fire consumes” us. The next stanza also supports the heartfelt love as described by the analogy of Hercules and Samson. True love is “more powerful than all dust”, the dust refers to lust and how it is a fleeting feeling that is blown away easily. However, real love is constant and stays forever as it is as “strong as the pillars of the seas”. By using Greek mythology through Hercules and a bible reference to Samson, Sitwell portrays how even strong...

...I believe that definition of love varies for different people. So this is what I am going to define it as in this essay. Love is a friendship that has caught fire. It takes root and grows, one day at a time. With that being said for this essay I will define Infatuation as a foolish and usually extravagant passion or love or admiration. The tension from these two words comes from the poem A Woman Killed With Kindness One. The two words has tension in this poem because it is hard to tell weither he is feeling love or infatuation. For us to fully understand which one he is feeling, I will discuss in this essay the differnces between love and infatuation. Then will explain which one I believe he's in this essay. I will begin with talking about infatuation. The main thing that I would like to begin with is infautuation is selfish. The only thing that, that person is trying to do is fulfill that lust and desire for themselves, not matter if the feelings that the other person has differs from theres. Its a selfish unctrollable desire. It's bassically a reckless commitment to satify their needs by being with this person. For example, a part where i felt he was reckless was when he wanted her to tell her husband. "Go, tell your husband; he will turn me off, And I am then undone". The effect of infatuation is being controlled by brain chemistry, not the heart, loss of ability to make rational evaluations of what is true, valuable and worthy. The result that comes after infatuation...

The Man Whom Loved Flowers

...he is in love; he is walking through 3rd Avenue. The people around him seem to respond to his outbound feelings. The young man is buying flowers for a girl named Norma, who he is going over to meet. A radio in the background is broadcasting bad news but no one seems to really care. He continues on up the street and meets a couple more people who also respond to his love stuck look. He walks down through an alley and sees a woman but this isn’t Norma, so he murders her like he has done five times already. Norma has been dead for ten years. He says that his name is love and that he walked the dark streets because Norma was waiting for him. Characterization of the young man: The young man is dressed in a light grey suit with a narrow tie and a top collar where the button is undone, he is far from rich and his appearance is described as having dark, short cut hair, light blue eyes and a fair complexion and on this soft spring evening, he was beautiful. He is described very positively through most of the story. He is happy and in love, the feelings radiate out of him and emit an aura of happiness which is perceived by the bystanders on the street. When he hears the news on the radio we start to notice a change when he reaches into his pocket, he seems puzzled, lonely and haunted. He is never truly aware of the life around him; he is focused on something else. His true identity is the hammer murderer. Happiness

...lives. Money can help us do a lot of things, but it is not the way to achieve happiness... I also contact a lot of people to see if they are happy with their life. Do they 'work to live' or 'live to work' ? Which one is better for ourselves. Steve Jobs says 'You got to find what you love'. I realize that finding the meaning of my life, or the happiness for ourselves is to find what we love. No matter what we try, if we can not find out what we love, we will not achieve happiness. Some people love working, some people love money, some people love power, ... However, I know that finding what we love is not enough to achieve happiness. Many of us like money, but because of that, we're worried all the time about it, we can not sleep well in the night, and all the day we just keep thinking about it. Do we feel happy ? I also learn about different religions to find out how happy the people are. An important conclusion is that some people feel happier, but some other feel less happy. Religions offer the people a feeling of contacting with Gods and with others, that God will help us. But anyway, in everyday, we need to solve the problems by ourselves. We feel unhappy if our business is still undone. It's not good to believe that the destiny is defined, and wait for God to help us....
