My Love for Others

Born a small baby at birth, I was the only girl and the youngest of two. As a small child growing up, I always wanted a sister. Being without a sister to spend time with, it caused me to be shy and not very sociable. Having someone to share my time; maybe would have caused me to be more of an outgoing person. I grew up playing alone with my dolls and entertaining myself. I did not have many friends and stayed indoors most of the time. In my time alone I enjoyed pretending to be a school teacher and church leader, so there would be school work for the students and church service for the saints. It started very early in my life with the desire to help others, which is what a teacher and church leader normally does. Growing up in an abusive environment made me very nervous as a child. Due to the abuse in my home towards my mother, it caused me to be very protective of my loved ones. I believe a child should live a life in his or her home without feeling nervous and afraid. Every child deserves a peaceful and loving home. My mother always made sure my brother and I felt loved. We would attend church every Sunday and participate in all the youth events. She made sure we completed our chores and homework before we could begin any playing time, because of that it helped me to learn what was important to least important. As a teen, I was always willing to babysit my younger cousins, ranging in age from infant to toddlers. My care and love for babies made it very easy to become a babysitter. When the married couples in the family would have a date night, I would be the first one they ask to babysit. During my time of being a sitter, my passion for babies increased more, and more, and I shared most of my time with them, sometimes keeping them overnight. There were times I thought of them as my dolls. It made me feel magnificent when I was able to make the difference in the life of the babies. I liked it when the children would get attached to me and didn't want to leave, as I felt they were captivated by my love for them. I've always bonded with small children, and that bond has continued in my life today. Throughout my life experiences, I discovered my love for people was unconditional-without limits, and I realized it is a gift from God. I believe it is God's will to share that love with as many people as possible. Love makes all the difference in the life of people, and it heals. We need the world with people healed physically, mentally and emotionally. It always has been a pleasure for helping others both physically and spiritually. I am often referred to as the counselor by many of my older family members. It is some of the parents whom I was the babysitter for who seeks my listening ear and God-given wisdom. I served as a Youth Leader for many years in my church along with being a mentor at Youth Villages for two years. I have jumped into actions numerous times just by seeing a person situation on the news. There it was a cold, snowy day after seeing a single mom of two, pregnant with triplet boys evicted from her home, my making a difference mentality quickly kicked in. There I found myself raising money, purchasing baby items and toys to make their Christmas a special one. It was the best time of the year to give some love away, for we would soon celebrate the birth of Christ. I want to see as many children as possible loved, safe and in a positive Christian environment, I know to make to make my dreams possible in a Social Service profession I would need to further my education and not only pursue a career but my calling. My passion for helping and seeing other's succeed and wanting continued spiritual growth for myself led me back to school.
