...D03454209 | LSI Style Interpretation | Leadership and Organizational Behavior | GM5910N_HProfessor Kenneth Goldsmith | Robert Neal White | 8/31/2011 | | After finishing the LSI Style Interpretation for this class I was identified as have the humanistic- encouraging style as my top style with a score of 38 which placed me in the top 93 percent of persons who took the interpretation. My second top style was the affiliative style in which I scored 37 and placed in the top 90 percent of persons who took the interpretation. After contemplating my work / leadership style(s) and comparing how I interact with co- workers and subordinates, I agree with the results and will further discuss my reasoning in this paper. First, I will discuss the humanistic- encouraging style. As depicted on the description of the humanistic- encouraging style, scoring high on the humanistic – encouraging scale is “positive, healthy and effective”. (International, 2011) The high score shows that I am “sensitive to people’s needs, and will devote energy to counseling and coaching others”. (International, 2011) The scale itself measures the takers interest in people and the tendency to care about others. It also measures the takers ability to encourage others to improve. As stated on the description, since I scored as high as I did I should “ have an unconditional positive regard for others”. (International, 2011). I completely agree with the results of the survey and am confident...

Brief Answer Yes. Bert Cooper probably has a cause of action for intentional infliction of emotional distress against Ellie Saxon. ...Siemens AG: Global Development Strategy • What were the major causes of the problems with the NetManager project? (I’m not looking for a list of points made in the case; I’m looking for you to step back to a higher level and analyze why these problems occurred.) The problems experienced by the NetManager project appear to be symptoms of integration vs. responsiveness issue within Siemens AG. As a transnational company, Siemens faces strong pressure to globally integrate its operations, and be responsive to the needs of their offices and customer’s needs. The main problem with NetManager was that it had mushroomed in size and strategic importance. This was the result of keeping up with the rapidly changing technological demands, and NetManager becoming a highly visible product for Siemens’ largest customers. Analyzing the various problems, we see that despite the competence of the Bangalore RDC, there is a serious number of integration problems between Munich headquarters and Bangalore. First, there was a gap in product knowledge and competence, which resulted in unrealistic expectations such as project deadlines. Indians held proficiency in desktop and personal computing programming languages, while the Germans held extensive product knowledge concerning their EWSD technology and its functions. As the project grew in size and scope, it required interdependence amongst EWSD systems, knowledge held by German management and not sufficiently provided to Bangalore. Then...

...with each other. There had been multiple requests to the state department for increased security forces even months before the attack. These requests were denied due to lack of efficient intelligence information supporting the request. Without the proper information through intelligence US troops would have been put at a greater risk by going into the unknown rather than preparing for the mission ahead. Once the attack began there was not enough time for US forces to arrive and cause any changes in the outcome. The decision to send more security should have been made long before the attack occurred. There was absolutely not enough security, and had there been the results could have been significantly better. Sufficient security may or may not have prevented the attack but there is a chance that the results could have resulted in fewer deaths. Strong security forces can affect outcomes of situations such as these in many ways. A large security team can cause intimidation against those committing these attacks just by having the numbers to closely fight the group they are facing. This attack had very little security causing the look from an outsiders view to be seen as a greater chance of success while more security would do the opposite and cause thoughts of possible failure instead. In areas such as this where we cannot rapidly respond to uprisings and threats we should have roaming patrols. By implanting this security posture we could increase response time in areas...

...The result of the tests conducted at different locations and times can be found in Table 1 of Appendices. By comparing the estimated number of people within 100 meters against the number of people found by WeChat (within 100 meters), it can be observed that there is a huge deviation. Similarly, there is a variation between the estimated number of people who is likely to be on WeChat and the number of people found by WeChat. The differences in the results can be explained by various reasons and they are as follows: 1. Generally, user with WeChat app is found to be very common in China. However, in Singapore where many social apps are available, WeChat can be seen as less popular as compared to apps like Whatsapp, Line and Tango. Hence, smaller amount of users resulted in lesser number of people discovered by WeChat’s Look Around function. 2. People might have installed WeChat but do not access or use it because they are using other apps (i.e. Whatsapp, Line, etc) to communicate. Hence, information such as user’s location is unavailable on WeChat’s web server. 3. For tests conducted outside of institution (i.e. ID 5 – 6 and 8 – 10): it is likely that users have disabled their “location services” feature of the mobile device or have chosen to delete their location data (in WeChat) to prevent unnecessary data lost and to protect their privacy. Such act affected WeChat’s app ability to determine user’s location. Alternatively, user might be connected to a network with...

...The Usage of Meta Tags The Usage of Meta Tags Meta tags are used by search engine spiders to gather information about the current page the spider is crawling. This data is then used to help the search engines create what are called Search Engine Results Pages. There are three main types of Meta tags, title, description and keywords. The title tag should be something that users will be able to search for in the search box. For example if you’re a breeder of pit bulls, then make the title tag informing users that you are. Descriptions are typically used on the SERPs as an overview of information contained in the page. Keywords are typically used by search engines to aid in ranking the paper besides other similar pages on the SERPs. The keywords tag should be used to sum up what the site it about in detail using “to the point words” for what information is on the current page. This allows a user to type in the general idea of their search and for the spider to crawl for those words. The description tag should be a brief description on what your site offers, does, or is about! For example, if your page is about breeding pit bulls pups in your area, describe the type of puppies, prices, and what...

By synthesizing relevant literature from cognitive psychology, marketing, and e-commerce, this study identifies key contextual factors that are conducive for creating brand positioning online via SERPs. In two experiments, the authors establish that when Internet users’ implicit beliefs (i.e., schema) about the meaning of the display order of search engine results are activated or heightened through feature priming, they will have better recall of an unknown brand that is displayed before the well-known brands in SERPs. Further, those with low Internet search skills tend to evaluate the unknown brand more favorably along the particular brand attribute that activates the search engine ranking schema. ...LSI : Life Styles Inventory MGMT591 – Dr. Hallcom 9/13/2013 The Life Styles Inventory survey, provided by Human Synergistics International, measures a person’s personal orientation toward thinking and behaving. The questions contained in the survey measure twelve styles related to the thoughts and attitudes that motivate a person’s behavior, how a person might relate to others, and how a person might problem solve and/or make decision (“What lsi measures”, 2012). Various psychologists and management scholars, i.e. Maslow, Hertzberg, etc., influenced the questions presented in the survey. The goal is to use the results to examine my strengths and those other areas that need improving. My styles profile is broken into three parts: constructive styles, passive/defensive styles, and aggressive/defensive styles (“Your lsi styles,” 2013). Of the twelve styles, my primary style is ‘achievement’ and my backup style is ‘approval’. These styles have the greatest influence on my behavior. In selecting that slice of my circumplex, the achievement style is characterized by “a focus on achieving a standard of excellence; the knowledge that individual effort counts,” and “a belief in the benefits of asking for and giving honest feedback” (“Your lsi styles,” 2013). Most of the items that comprise the achievement style manifest itself in my personal- and work-life. For example, I enjoy being busy, learning more, taking on difficult tasks and accomplishing them. I pride myself in...

In doing so, the inventory provides a point-in-time picture of your particular orientation to conflict, reflected in the circular graph or "profile circumplex" below. LSI Conflict measures three conflict orientations: Constructive (colored blue), Passive/Defensive (colored green), and Aggressive/Defensive (colored red). Higher scores for the 11, 12, 1, and 2 o'clock styles reflect a CONSTRUCTIVE conflict orientation. Individuals exhibiting these styles deal with conflict effectively; they see conflict situations as opportunities for personal growth, treat opponents as respected equals, and tend to have a goal beyond winning or losing which enables them to benefit regardless of the conflict's outcome. Higher scores for the 3, 4, 5, and 6 o'clock styles reflect a PASSIVE/DEFENSIVE conflict orientation. In general, individuals with these styles are threatened by conflict and assume a passive approach. They believe conflict is unnecessary and destructive and prefer to avoid it. Higher scores for the 7, 8, 9, and 10 o'clock styles...

...GM591 PREPARATION GUIDE: LIFE STYLES INVENTORY(LSI) Introduction: Thinking and Behavior "The quest for leadership is first an inner quest to discover who you are” (p.391).[1] --Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner--- Self-awareness is foundational to effective leadership and organization success[2]. Research in leadership and organizational behavior indicates that managers who are blind to who they are, and to the effects they have on other people in their organizations, place their effectiveness and their careers at risk. A frequently cited axiom is "the first commandment of leadership is to know thyself." For example, in their studies of managerial and executive derailment, the Center for Creative Leadership found that successful managers: (1) understand their values, personal styles, and strengths and weaknesses; (2) know the impact of these values, styles, and strengths and weaknesses on their ability to effectively work with others and achieve their goals; and (3) are quick to reflect upon and learn from their own experiences. Despite these advantages, we often resist opportunities to increase our self-awareness or to acknowledge error. We fear that learning something new about ourselves will be painful -- doing so may require us to change our treasured and habitual ways of seeing, thinking, and behaving. Self-awareness is also an important barometer to ensure that even the best leadership practices don't become destructive. As Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner caution...

...A Comparison of Two Surveys We are often asked: “What is the difference between the Life Styles Inventory™ and the MyersBriggs Type Indicator®?” Whereas both of these surveys help individuals to better understand themselves and others, they differ in terms of what they measure, how they measure it, and how the results are used. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to highlight what we believe are some of the most important differences between these two popular instruments. The Life Styles Inventory™ (LSI) measures twelve distinct thinking and behavioral styles that are distinguished by their orientations toward task versus people and higher-order needs for satisfaction and growth versus lower order needs for security and safety. The LSI builds on the work of a variety of noteworthy psychologists, including Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, Albert Ellis, Karen Horney, Timothy Leary, David McClelland, Harry Stack Sullivan, as well as management scholars, such as Fredrick Hertzberg, Douglas McGregor, and Ralph Stodgill. It is designed to provide individuals with an opportunity to identify specific strengths in their thinking and behavior, as well as any “stumbling blocks” that may be standing in their way. As such, the LSI is used to initiate positive changes in how people approach their work and interact with others— changes that can increase both their personal and professional effectiveness. In contrast, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) measures preferences rather than thinking styles. More specifically...
