...We saw a play called ‘Woyzeck’ wrote by Georg Buchner on the 8th October at Kings of Wessex Academy. The play is about a man call Woyzeck who was being used for experiments for money, he also does work for The Captain and The Doctor. He has a wife and child who he never sees so consequently they grow apart and his wife cheats on him with a drum major. Woyzeck finds out and with him being in weak state of mind from all the work he has been doing and the fact he only has eaten peas for the science experiment, he snaps and kills his wife. He throws the knife in the river and then tries to wash the blood of himself only to drown. They had minimal props to use because they were a travelling show. For the background they had a clothing rail with a sheet covering it, this was used as the floor of marie house, to cover the captain when he was getting shaved and also used as the water at the end. The red on the sheet could have symbolised the bloodshed, love or anger Woyzeck was feeling, also they had music boxes which they played at different times to add the performance. They used mime instead of real props for instant the knife and shaver, for the shaver they used a sound effect. The use of mime did not take away from the performance; it made you use your imagination to put in the props that should be there.
