Executive Summary

Market Garden Brewery looked to improve product quality and reduce costs, so a holistic six-sigma implementation to set up quality control ended up being explored as a viable option. Since the brewery consists of both a brewing unit as well as a bar at the front of the facility, we sought to pursue ways to add value in some form in both distinct settings. As a result, our project has taken on a two-pronged approach.

One part of it deals with consistency and control of the beer brewed, by setting product specifications limits, and applying a system for collecting data, whereby more informed decision making can be undertaken by the company. The second part deals with an issue at the bar front, glass cleaning. Beer glasses that are not at an optimal level of cleanliness can affect the taste of beer, resulting in negative customer experiences, so it is important for the company to implement a regime that results in the best possible conditions for effective cleaning to take place.

For both sub projects, we went through the DMAIC process, successfully navigating the Define, Measure and Analyze phases for both and coming up with recommendations for the Improve and Control stages. The define stages were augmented by a comprehensive tour of the facility that
