... “FINANCIAL MARKET” IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS IN ECON. 101(ECONOMIC W/ TAXATION & LANDREFORM) SUBMITTED TO: MR. ANDASIL J. ABUBAKAR, M (PHIL) “Instructor” SUBMITTED BY: GROUP 1 STUDENTS 1st semester/ A.Y 2012-2013 PART 1- FINANCIAL MARKET INTRODUCTION Throughout his text, Mishkin stresses that the evolution of financial markets, both in the U.S. and throughout the world, has resulted from an intricate interplay of three factors: chance, necessity, and design. In short, history matters, and it matters a lot. In addition, throughout his text Mishkin consistently stresses the importance of information. He argues that it is impossible to understand the special nature of financial markets relative to markets for real goods and services unless one understands the peculiar types of "asymmetric information problems" intrinsically associated with financial assets. He argues that these asymmetric information problems have largely shaped the structure of financial markets in the past, and that the recent surge of innovations in information technology (IT) -- in particular, Internet-related IT -- is leading to a dramatic restucturing of financial markets today. The notes, below, provide basic background information on financial markets as covered in Mishkin in Chapters 2 and 4. For...

These different groups can then be targeted by different marketing methods to entice them to purchase goods and services (Wikipedia-Market Segmentation, 2014). Marketing segmentation can be very important for a company because it can help the company expend its’ resources more efficiently. This will increase the return on investment of the money spent on marketing. It allows a company to target those consumers most likely to purchase from them. Best Buy is an electronics chain superstore that employs marketing segmentation and target marketing to more effectively increase sales. Marketing Segmentation Demographics Best Buy’s largest customer demographic population is the Baby Boomer population. Their most vital population segment is actually the young twenty-something’s to early 30s adults who are college educated and do not have children. This population is important because of their perceived preference for discriminating tastes and their exposure to a wider range of products and services due to their college education. ...5 Forces Analysis on the Paper Industry Looking at the position of the paper industry relative to the five forces model I had to determine exactly what constituted the paper industry. I had to decide between the Paper Mills Industry and Pulp Mills Industry and ultimately decided to analyze the Paper Mills Industry specifically when it came to paper industry as a whole. The NAICS Code that corresponds to the Paper Mills Industry is NAICS: 322121 or SIC Code 2621. Porter’s Five Forces Model of Competition includes the firm’s, or in this case the paper mill industry’s, position relative to current competitors, suppliers, customers, potential new entrants and potential substitutes. Over the next few pages I will conduct a five forces analysis of the Paper Mills Industry. Current Competitors: The degree of rivalry in the paper industry is the center of the five forces and the other four forces branch off of this. The first aspect to look at is the number and position of companies within the paper industry. There were 445 companies in 2009 and as of 2013 there are now 119 companies in the industry. This industry still has many competitors within the industry and therefor, there shouldn’t be any impact of any particular company. This industry is large enough where these firms can prosper without having to steal market share from each other and this is a positive for the paper industry. The second key factor is the industry growth rate and if there is room to increase revenues...
