Cognitive linguists have consistently drawn attention to this system of conceptual transfer in both literary and in everyday discourse, and have identified important figures of speech, through which this conceptual transfer is carried out. First off, you have to look at the realism in the plots in these two movies. Both plots are similar in the sense that they have to do with an unplanned pregnancy. In Knocked Up a successful woman, played by Katherine Heigl, has a celebratory night out with her sister to celebrate a promotion. She ends up meeting a man while out, and after unprotected sex, winds up dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. In The Waitress a waitress at Joe’s Pie Diner, played by Keri Russell, also ends up having an unplanned pregnancy. The two plots differ from one another when you consider the type of man they are with. In Knocked Up when Katherine Heigl meets a stranger in a nightclub she is way out of his league, and this makes the whole concept comical. Whereas in The Waitress, Keri Russell is in a terrible, abusive marriage which is a much more likely scenario for a woman in her position, making it more realistic. I think with my current career field these two lessons play a massive part in our day to day work environment. With the long hours and hard work, we have lost several to suicide and all of them could have been prevented by proper use of the wingman concept. As for wingman concept, if it was used more often than it is now, we would have less suicides and even alcohol related instances through out the maintenance field. For me suicide is a very rough and heart felt topic to talk about. Even harder to listen too as it hits home very hard. I lost my father when I was two years old to a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head, and now less then a year ago my ex wife shot herself due to her feeling like a failure to be a good wife and mother. With the suicide awareness lesson and the plethora of information that is brought to light, it now allows me to further understand why people often choose suicide and more over the signs leading up to it. If I had this knowledge a year ago, I would have been able to possibly prevent her attempt to take her life. Young children’s conceptual change has not been as widely studied as that in older students. The researcher in this case study suggested that conceptual changes as a party of the learning process should be viewed as a life long process, which begins before children enter school. Six-year-old children undergo floating and sinking during their conceptual change process. The authors use techniques to engage the reader and to teach the responder about alienation and how it affects people. Skryznecki uses symbolism to convey that migrants were alienated from Australian society. Skryznecki says "barrier at the main gate" to emphasize how the migrants were excluded from the outside world. The "barrier" is both literal and symbolic.
