Teacher education programs are devoid of some aspects relating to paideia that would make for efficient teachers. Those aspects include various ways of engaging the students in the learning process, also known as active learning techniques. Martin Bickman, an advocate of incorporating active learning pedagogies in classrooms and author of the book, Minding American Education, expresses his concern with the current education system, stating that teachers simply regurgitate what they know to their students. This deters the students from producing their own knowledge while learning, as well as avoiding the other benefits of active learning. One benefit includes a way of fortifying the materials taught, so that the students don’t forget what they
