...Matt Slick notes that accepting the concept of that there is a hell where scores of people will suffer eternally is not an easy task. People always hear the kinder side of God, about his love and how He would that all men are saved, though this does not show the complete version of God. This article states that while God is merciful and loving and gracious, he also is a just god who hates sin and punishes those who do sin. Jesus cautioned man about the eternal place of fire; he actually talked about hell a lot while he was on earth, after all, that is what he was here to save man from. Those who are not covered by Jesus’s sacrifice will be thrown into hell during the Judgement, and it will be a place of eternal punishment. Slick uses Matthew 25:46 to show that Hell is eternal in the same way that heaven is eternal....

...In The Divide, Matt Taibbi discusses the attempted destruction of Fairfax Financial Holdings, a large Canadian-based bank firm. Because of Fairfax's honest and fair past record, Morgan Keegan, an American-based bank firm, and Exis Capital Management found Fairfax threatening in terms of dominating the American economy (Fairfax had recently joined the American economy). As a result, Morgan Keegan bought large quantities of short investments- borrowing stocks and selling them in order to make a profit- and Fairfax's stock value went down 25% in one day. Furthermore, Morgan Keegan wrote reports that argued false statements about Fairfax, which caused investors to invest their money in other companies. Moreover, the main conspirators who wanted to destroy Fairfax were Spyro Contogouris, Adam Sender, Stevie Cohen, Dan Loeb, and Jim Chanos. Each man was notorious for their abrasive demeanor and narcissistic tendencies. Because of the heinous and illegal actions of the conspirators, Fairfax executives and their eight thousand employees were not only concerned for their jobs and their livelihoods, but they were also concerned for the future of the Canadian and American economy if Fairfax Financial Holdings were destroyed....

...By far, my favorite application essay to write was Fuqua’s “25 Random Things About Me.” However, I was surprised to talk to other applicants and hear how difficult many found the essay to write. My advice for those of you struggling with this non-traditional essay is to just have fun! This is a great and unique opportunity to show your interests, personality, and what sets you apart as a person. I’m pretty confident that after reading my first blog (The Top 10 Reasons Why I Chose Fuqua), you thought to yourself, “Wow, this Trevor McKinnon sounds like an awesome guy. I wish I could get to know him better.” Well, it’s your lucky day! Below are some random things about me, and although this is not the same list I submitted as part of my application, it should give you the gist: 1. I was born in the US, raised in the UK, and have citizenship in both countries. 2. I played alto saxophone in a jazz nightclub in Prague. 3. My daughter’s name is Surrey. No, not because of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ daughter (Suri) and not because of the iPhone app (Siri), but because Surrey is where I grew up in England. And yes, people ask me those 2 questions all the time. 4. Surrey is spoiled: she had been to Disneyland more than 10 times before the age of 18 months, even though she’s never lived in California. My wife is from Orange County, so we would visit her family frequently while living in Utah, which always included multiple trips to Disneyland to get the most out of our season...

In 12 Angry Men the norms of a group greatly impact the effectiveness of the group. In the beginning of the movie the norm was that everyone except Henry Fonda was not taking the case seriously. People had other places to go with little interest in being there. The people who were the most vocal and “annoying” were the people who set the norm of the group to begin with. However, quickly Henry Fond changed the norm of the group to a more serious environment, since they were talking about the life another person. When Henry Fonda took a leadership position of the group that is when the norms began to come into place and order arose. He set some guidelines and people were to follow them or they were called out. The norms that came of the group made it more effective. Some of these norms that arose is they had one person speak at a time and give there reasons why they sided the way they did. They used facts to back up there information. As time grew and they realized they were going to be there for a little while the norm was set to have respect for your elders (old man in particular) and to treat people with respect. When the garage owner...

...the first after airing of The Flintstones (1960-1966). Where this longest running animated show has made millions of fans, it has also been in spotlight for raising issues and controversies. The satirical series has also intrigued the trend of exposing the truth using ridicule, inspiring American Dad and South Park. The Simpsons succeeded beyond all expectations, providing Fox with its first top ten ratings hit and crossing demographic boundaries to reach a huge and still-expanding audience of little kids, teens, and hip adults. The main idea behind creating this show was to address the particular issues popping up in the society. The different characters showed the reality of “perfect American dream” family. There are messages that Matt Groening is trying to send to us from this malfunctioning family ‘The Simpsons’. Groening wants to reflect the dark side of our society and inform us that we have so many problems to be solved in order to make a better world. One of the reasons that ‘The Simpsons’ gained such popularity is that general public can easily relate to the characters. This kind of sympathy occurs because the characters of ‘The Simpsons’ are based on normal citizens. In the time of everything being portrayed as perfect and sweet, Simps show us the reality. This sympathy makes general public to easily relate to the characters and understand the problems of our society that the writer intend to reflect. ...Joshua Zemsky Inside Job Extra Credit First of all, I think it is extremely comical that man with a net worth of $65 million (Matt Damon) is going to narrate a film that claims that the smartest men in the world are too greedy and are over-compensated. I do not believe I have ever seen such a closed minded, uneducated propagandas film before. This film was really just a way to bash Wall Street. It was not very viable and many “facts” were skewed. It was made in a very intelligent way though, to make what they were saying seem like they were good facts and statistics. One thing that really stood out when I was watching was when they were talking about the Bush tax cuts and how rich people saved more money from those cuts then poor people. They do not explain percentages though. For example, say person A makes $10 and person B makes $100. If person A saves 10% of that, he is saving $1. If person B saves 5%, less than 10%, he saves $5. So he is saving more total money, but not as much of a percentage of his income. That is a HUGE failure of the movie to identify and state that. Those are not facts that the filmmaker wants to show though, because it will help to disprove his argument. The movie talks about how poor de-regulation is for Wall Street. Why though? Because there have been a few setbacks? Overall, has Wall Street and the financial industry not been extremely prosperous? And has the United States economy as a whole not been extremely prosperous...

...Gabriella Monica English 126 Marcie Sims 8 August 2013 Experience in Life Nowadays, people have learned that experience is a process of learning. Whether the learning is met to be a bad or good experience to the person, it will influence his or her life. Similar with every story that is written, the main character will face a conflict in his or her life. A Story like “Aladdin”, a well-known children story, can be interpreted as a part of learning. Whereby we can see that the sultan of Agrabah learned that he could not trust Jafar, his royal vizier anymore. This was because Jafar tried to take over the Sultan’s power of owning Agrabah. If the conflict had not happened, the Sultan would have not learned about Jafar. This kind of conflict can be defined as an experience to the Sultan of Agrabah. In consequence, the Sultan of Agrabah learned to distrust Jafar. This kind of analysis also applies to some stories and poems. As it is mentioned that most stories or creative writings have conflicts of their own, ”A Good Man is Hard to Find”, “When I heard Learn’d Astronomer”, “The Things They Carried” and “The Secretary’s Chant” lifted up their own conflict by the authors. However, they shared the same theme that is possible to engage them together that experiences shape the individual’s belief. People affect each other’s lives that it is possible for the individual to learn under another person’s influence. This causes people’s comments or actions can change the individual’s way...

...“The last shall be first and the first shall be last”, Matt. 20:16. By James Peterson Mason in “V.I.P.” asks the question “who is the most important in a church?”(pg34). His conclusion; it is the suffering that are the most important. This approach to suffering is a practical application of theology. Mason’s Theology of suffering is interconnected to Christian attitudes, church community, and the idea of who is the most important. It is one that involves the attitude of the Church needing to be one of servant-ship, the sufferers being surrounded by the Christian community, and the fact that they should be put first. His theology of Suffering is that it is very much the problem of the whole community of believers, not just the one going through the suffering. Mason tackles a difficult attitude he finds in the church, an attitude that at its worst is hypocrisy and neglect. People who are supposed to serve the forgotten and hurting but have forgotten to care. The book of Job is Mason’s main reference for this idea and turns to the story of job and his friends for an example. “In Job we see five men (counting Elihu) whose lives are inconvenienced by the suffering of Job. Four of these men are subconsciously, so deeply resentful of this problem that they cannot see that it is really theirs as much as it is Job’s. . . . Their behavior is like that of a stubborn man who insists on walking around on a broken foot” (Mason, 35). From Mason’s own penmanship as well as the...

...The two films I am going to get into depth with and compare is The Academy award winning drama Good Will Hunting, and also another Academy award winning film Mrs. Doubtfire, both starring the legend Robin Williams. In both the films Robin Williams plays an important supportive role and proves that he can make a difference. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon also play great lead and supporting roles where we can see the characters grow and have a great motivational connection with one another. Both films give a great theme, with support, family and relationships being a main focus. Each movie has characters going through struggles and later in the end overcoming them. A lot of lessons can be learned in each film, and many people can relate to them. Good Will Hunting has characters who deal with loss, abuse, and lack of self-confidence. Mrs. Doubtfire has family troubles, separation, and trust issues involved as well. Both movies are easily relatable and comparable to each other as well. In both films family and relationships seems to play an important role. In Good Will Hunting, Matt Damon struggles with life and commitment, due to abandonment by the people who were supposed to love him the most. He was severely abused and in adoptive homes, he then preferred to stay as a manual laborer living in a dilapidated house in the Boston neighborhood. Throughout the movie he struggles to find his place in the world by first finding out who he is. He is a genius and could solve math problems...
