1. Describe the decision-making process and discuss the manager’s role in making decisions. Given example of a decision that can be quantified and one that is primarily a qualitative decision.
Decision making process involves five steps: 1. Define the problem. 2. Identify the alternative 3. Determine the criteria 4. Evaluate the alternative 5. Choose an alternative
Decision-making is important skill for business and life. Decision-making is especially important for management and leadership. There are processes and techniques to improve decision-making and the quality of decisions. Decision-making is more natural to certain personalities, so the managers should focus more on improving the quality of their decisions. Managers that are less natural decision-makers are often able to make quality assessments, but then need to be more decisive in acting upon the assessments made.
Good decision-making requires a mixture of skills: creative development and identification of options, clarity of judgment, firmness of decision, and effective implementation. Here are some useful methods for effective decision-making: First a simple step-by-step process for effective decision-making. Today’s managers confront difficult decisions daily and must consider an increasingly wide range of criteria in making those decisions. In the past, such decisions were often judged only on the basis of a single attribute, such as profit or cost. However, cost or profit alone often does not fully capture the desirability of a decision alternative.

Construct and Support an Argument

...Construct and Support an Argument By Brian J Dunn NWMBA12M2 MGT/521 Instructor: CEASAR ELPIDIO Workshop 2 Assignment Due March 4, 2010 Submitted March 4, 2010 Introduction To pursue my MBA degree or not, that is the question? In the decision to pursue my MBA, there were other questions too. Do I feel like continuing my education, do I want to pay back the additional student loans, will a Masters degree increase my chances of a new career, promotions, or new opportunities? In this paper, I will construct and support an argument based on my decision to pursue my MBA. I will also include the results from the Jungian Personality self-assessment, which is a tool to assist me with how others perceive me. The Jungian self-assessment test rated me as an ENTJ, so it will be interesting to explore the characteristics of this “type.” Constructed Argument I have always been taught that getting a good education will lead to a higher quality of life. Does this mean that only possessing a high school diploma will lead to a lessened quality of living? From a personal standpoint, no! Until I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in 2009 my standard of living had been just fine for me. I was able to purchase a home, cars, basically all of my necessities were being met as I was able to sustain great paying jobs in the environmental field for the last 13 years. I did not go to school to get into the environmental field, I just happened upon an opportunity that was...

Personal Goals

...As a professional at Deloitte Pvt Ltd three personal goals that I want to achieve are, first is to complete my bachelor of science in business management in 2 years. Next is to become a better writer. Throughout junior college, writing has always been my weakest point and with the amount of writing assignments required at University of Phoenix this needs to be one of my top goals. Finally is to complete every course with no less than a B letter grade. With making the decision to return to school and taking on the considerable financial burden, receiving an average grade would be unacceptable to my standards.      While being employed full-time, The University of Phoenix has the rare opportunity for working professionals to finish courses in just 5 weeks. Having such a compressed time schedule for completing degrees will make it possible to complete my bachelor of science in business management in 2 years as long as I do not deviate from the program. I have decided that my number one priority in life is to complete my degree. I do not have other major commitments outside of work that will distract me from my assignments so staying focused on school will be realistic. Though I cannot predict the future, I do not plan on taking any time off during the two years that would result in interrupting my class schedule. With the option of taking CLEP test this will allow me to “test out” of some of the lower-division courses such as communication arts and humanities. Although this will...
