Theoretical Framework: The Social Ecological Model In the field of Health Education and Promotion, health educators seek to address problems across a broad spectrum, which involves working on multiple factors to improve the overall health of the target population. The ecological perspective focuses on both the importance of individual and social environmental factors as targets for health promotion interventions (McLerory et al., 1988)). The study consisted of participants from Northern California Kaiser Permanente, which is the nations oldest and largest nonprofit, integrated health-care delivery system. 800 employees whom the researchers had email addresses from received an electronic diet and physical activity assessment tool from the ALIVE study. There was no monetary incentive for those who completed the assessment, but participants who completed the assessment received instantaneous feedback regarding their current diet and physical activity in relations to the national guidelines. The also received details about the study, an informal consent document, and a second baseline questionnaire, which was used to tailor future intervention messages and fro assessing secondary study outcome. A total of 787 employees completed the assessment and provided their informed consent and were then randomized by into a control (436) and intervention group
