...The Giant Triplet for Dr. King and Ewuare X Osayande is a collage by artist Theodore A. Harris in 2008. In his artwork he uses mixed media, I’m assuming its magazine cut outs and oil paint. In my opinion the subject of this artwork is the upside down Capitol Building located in the center of the three panels. This artwork is collage that is spread across three panels with a background that moves you across the piece. Harris also makes the panels move by making the left and right panels focal point at the bottom and the center panel on the top half of the piece. I believe his painting expresses how capitalism and war suppress people. In this work of art the background of the three panels is what ties them together by fading from a black on the left to a red-orange gradient on the right. In the left panel, the Lincoln Memorial is taking up the bottom half of the panel. In the top center above the Lincoln Memorial is a pair of chained feet. The focal point in this panel is Abe Lincoln, due to his size and his coloring. In the center panel the Capitol Building is placed upside down in the dead center of the artwork. Above the Capitol Building there are fighter jets dropping bombs onto dead soldiers legs with a automatic weapon on top of them that are located below it. To the left of the fighter jets is a spanish article clipping. The focal point in the center panel is in my opinion the focal point of the entire piece which is the upside down capital building in the direct center....

...Art History Paper MENIL COLLECTION & MFA-H This paper compares and contrast Virgin and Child. Northern France, 2nd quarter of the 14th century A.D., wood, (1) and Ennatum, Prince of Lagash, 2450 B.C., Sumeria (Sourthern Iraq) , composite materials (alabaster, lapis lazuli, mother of pearl). (2) Both works are from the Menil Collection in Houston. The second set of works this paper compares and contrasts is the Head of Poseidon, 227 - 221 B.C., bronze,(3) and The Pharaoh Ramesses II., 1279 -1212 B.C., granodiorite (4) at the Museum of Fine Art - Houston. The Virgin and Child is around 3 feet tall; she is wearing a gown that drapes around her and covers her head like a veil. The gown has the look of gathering and draping over her body, and her abdomen bulges out slightly from under it. Her face has a slight smile, her eyes are uneven but gentle, and she is missing her right hand. She is holding a child with her left arm cradling the bottom of the child and her left hand comes from under and over the front of the child. She holds him on her left side almost at shoulder level. The child is missing his head and left hand , his right hand is held up towards the virgin's face with two of the child's fingers pointed up . The Ennatum, Prince of Lagash is around one foot tall. The work is a light sand colored statue of a small man with no hair standing with his blue eyes open; his one eyebrow comes over both eyes and merges in the center, and he has a very subtle smile on his face...

...On Art Theory As Art Whether it be writers, painters, sculptors, musicians, or photographers, artists all over the world have striven to show people their views of the world, of people, and even of the universe itself. Throughout history the creative urge of man to present to fellow men a different perspective or representation of life-or even the afterlife-has surfaced time and time again in the form of artwork. Sometimes it comes through genius and complexity, full of meaning and symbolism. Others, it is simple and void of any clear meaning at all other than that it is art. Soon, however, there became a point when the work of art was no longer something one could just look at and understand; the principle of the matter had changed. Art leapt from viewable understanding straight into the Modern movement where theory became art, and to understand it, one must know the theory it is based upon. Never was this more apparent than in the artwork of the abstract expressionist. Essentially, artwork is not art because of theory, and art based on theory cannot be creative or truly said to be art. To understand all of this, from the beginning, one must begin with the Word. That is to say, one must start with the understanding of the theory, what became known as the painted Word, behind Modern art between 1945 and 1975.
