...John D. Rockefeller.…the “Most Hated Man in the 19th Century”! No other person alive in the 19th century had such an enormous impact on the economy and history of America as did J.D. Rockefeller. J.D.’s reputation spans from being a ruthless businessperson to a thoughtful and giving philanthropist. Born on July 8, 1839, he came from a family with not much and lived the American dream, rising to success through his own wit and cunning, riding on the backs of none. His legacy is monumental; amassing the greatest private wealth of any American in history. His net worth in today’s dollars would be well over $350 billion dollars or 5 times more than the net worth of Bill Gates! Better yet, imagine $350 billion one dollar bills stacked on one on top of the other… this stack would be over 25,000 miles high. Pretty goal achievement for a boy, who at age eighteen had two lifetime goals…1. To earn $100,000 and 2. To live to be 100! J.D. is a native of Tioga County, New York, his grandfather, Godfrey, coming from Massachusetts and settling in Richford. In this village, John Davidson Rockefeller (J.D.) was born on July 8, 1839 to his mother Eliza a house maker and his father William (Devil Bill) Rockefeller. Devil Bill was a drifter, peddling oil products to cure cancer...Snake Oil that is! He was tall and fine looking, with a dominating personality, a great hunter, and an unusually good expert shooter. He was, too, a very shrewd, practical man and J.D often acknowledged...

...What is the “Problem of Evil”? What is the difference, if there is a difference, between so-called “moral evil” and “natural evil”? How exactly does John Hick, in his essay “Problem of Evil”, solve the problem of both “Moral evil” and “natural evil”? Do you think that either or both, of Hick’s solutions is really able to solve what appears to be a unique problem of evil in Arthur C. Clarke’s short story, “The Star”? Unhappiness, as a whole, is a challenge to the idea of good. When one hears or discovers about the disasters or the pain and suffering of wars, violence, earthquakes and killings it is safe to ask one’s self, what the problem of evil is. Investigating the short story “Problem of Evil” written by John Hick the author talks about the differences in “moral evil” and “natural evil” while defining the main question with god and evil. Furthermore in “moral evil” and “natural evil” John Hicks explanations are studied throughout the short story titled The Star by Arthur C. Clark. The problem that is most debated among believers and non-believers of God is the problem of evil. This debate is due to the belief of the omnipotence of God, saying how he is all loving, all powerful and all knowing. For all these meanings of God, there is a major defect, if the almighty is capable of revealing these abilities then how could he let evil enter into the world. If he is all- loving, then why is there so much hatred revolving around us and ultimately, If he is all-powerful, then should...

...Defence Force. Our discovery phase involved two teams; one team adopted a structured interview technique and the other used anecdote circles to collect stories. After our first day in the field we met with the structured interview guys to compare notes. “On first blush,” they said, “it seems like most things are in order. They are adhering to OH&S processes. Sure, there are some areas for improvement but generally things are OK.” As they were providing this assessment, those of us on the anecdotes team just looked at each other in astonishment and replied, “So, you didn’t hear about the soldiers who are showering in their own urine because their recycling system is broken or hear about the workshop where everyone wears protective footwear because some poor fellow lost his toes in an accident but no one wears protective eyewear because they have never had an eye accident?”. We had heard story upon story of major transgressions that weren’t picked up in the structured interview approach. This experience confirmed our assessment that a narrative approach is great for yielding new, and otherwise hidden, insights. A number of years and many clients later, we have seen that there is something even more important narrative techniques provide: a resolve among people to do something about the situation and a frame for mapping how to do so. Stories provide people with a keener awareness of their current situation, a clearer vision for their desired state, and a palpable sense for why and how to...

...described in his first important work, The Sun Also Rises (1926). Equally successful was A Farewell to Arms (1929), the study of an American ambulance officer's disillusionment in the war and his role as a deserter. Hemingway used his experiences as a reporter during the civil war in Spain as the background for his most ambitious novel, For Whom the Bell Tolls (1940). Among his later works, the most outstanding is the short novel, The Old Man and the Sea (1952), the story of an old fisherman's journey, his long and lonely struggle with a fish and the sea, and his victory in defeat. Hemingway - himself a great sportsman - liked to portray soldiers, hunters, bullfighters - tough, at times primitive people whose courage and honesty are set against the brutal ways of modern society, and who in this confrontation lose hope and faith. His straightforward prose, his spare dialogue, and his predilection for understatement are particularly effective in his short stories, some of which are collected in Men Without Women (1927) and The Fifth Column and the First Forty-Nine Stories (1938). Hemingway died in Idaho in 1961. From Nobel Lectures, Literature 1901-1967, Editor Horst Frenz, Elsevier Publishing Company,...

...according to Dr. Archibald Thomas Robertson in Word Pictures in the New Testament asserts that this believe and dating of Acts has long since been abandoned because the Tübingen School held the second century to be the date of this late pamphlet as they termed it after the fashion of the Clementine Homilies. Considering Acts as the second volume to the Luke’s Gospel most scholars now date Acts in the 80s or a bit later according to Carson and Moo (p. 298). Some scholars put their estimation at about 80-95 A.D. because they believe the Acts shows signs of having been written some years after the first volume of Luke’s Gospel. However, if one took into comparing this assumption to historical evidence the time frame of 80-95 A.D. falls short of accuracy as one could see in Acts 18 under the leadership of a certain Claudius a Roman leader Christian Jews were expelled out of Rome; and prominent among these Christians were Aquila and his wife Priscilla; a time of about C. 49 which history has well before A.D. 60. Finally most scholars settled for dating Acts before A.D. 70 settling on A.D. 62 with Paul been in Rome for two years. Going away from Biblical historicity of dating Acts it is also fair to state that Luke writing of Acts was absolutely before or at about the time of Emperor Nero’s (A.D. 64) persecution of Christians, as one could see Acts positive and hopeful style in regards to Rome’s attitude toward Christians. What role...

DIGITAL EXHIBIT Living in a small town and hearing the term “museum” I always thought about big cities that may have had objects that they thought were of great value. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary a museum is “an institution devoted to the procurement, care, study, and display of objects of lasting interest or value; or a place where objects are exhibited. While in elementary school I went on many field trips to different museums but they were never in my hometown. I was always taught that I was from a small town but never really given any history or informed of any events that may have taken place during previous years. Now a senior in college, doing my own research, I learn about a museum located in Henderson, North Carolina called Henderson Institute Historical Museum. According to my research this museum is the...
