When people are asked what their dreams’ are the often reply with a seemingly unattainable fantasy or wish. A lot of people’s dreams consists of sustaining a wealth or fame through posh occupations or some sort of luck. However, for Brenda Liz Cruz her dreams seem more like a reality than a fantasy. Her dreams consists of a comfortable retirement and being able to see her family grow. Why is it that Ms. Cruz’s dreams are more realistic than others? It may be due to the fact that the generation before her did not accomplish those dreams. It could also be because her childhood gave her a harsh reality check early on in her life. Ms. Cruz’s parents were not able to reach their dream of early retirement and seeing their family grow healthy and wholesome. For example, during a recent interview with Ms. Cruz she talked about her parents marriage tribulations. She explained how her parents didn't have a good marriage which cause more turmoil within the family. Due to her parents not having a good marriage, she said it caused her to view marriage in a negative light and become wary of relationships. For instance, in a recent interview with Ms. Cruz she described how her childhood was spent with little to no parental authority. She explained how the lack of authority lead her to make wild and reckless decisions, perhaps in an attempt to gain parental attention. These choices lead her to have consequences as a child and gave her a harsh reality check. Ms. Cruz revealed how her parent’s economical struggle allowed her to make her own decisions because her parents were not always present.
