Mr. Gym Master Here are the steps I would advise taking Into consideration before any final decisions are made. To begin with we need to determine hardware requirements and determine capability. We will need to exceed the

minimum requirements for growth.

This is a large corporation, so we might need to consider running Windows Microsoft Server 2008 Datacenter

Edition on XMP x64, which has the fastest processors. We will need to determine the amount of RAM that may

be needed.

The hardware requirements for Windows Microsoft 2008 Datacenter might exceed the capabilities of our current

servers, so we will need to check to see if it is compatible with the servers we already have in use. We may

need to upgrade Windows 2003 Basic input/output systems. (BIOS) We will have to check the computers

manufacturing website to determine if BIOS will be need to be upgraded, so we will be able to upgrade to the

2008.

Since we are upgrading Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008, unless you decide to do a clean

install we will need to check the available disk space and the partitioning before we begin. We will also need

check to ensure that any File Allocation Table (FAT) volumes are converted to NTFS (New Technology File

System).

We will need to determine if you are upgrading to compatible editions, there are Standard, Enterprise, and

Datacenter Editions that have specific upgrade paths.

We will need to plan on how many workstations will be accessing the server on the server edition. For the

Standard and Enterprise Editions you can purchase your initial

Research Assignment 1

...Assignment Part 1 What are some of the changes in Microsoft Windows Server 2008? As with all great Microsoft products, Windows Server 2008 spares no expense when it comes to being the forefront of server operating systems in the world. There are five different versions of the Server 2008 OS; the Web edition, Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter and Itanium. The Web edition can only be installed as physical or virtual and needs 4GB of RAM in 32-bit mode and 32GB of RAM in 64-bit. Aside from that, it only supports 4 CPU’s and restricts you from hot swapping RAM and CPU’s in the machine. The Standard edition, which includes Hyper-v virtualization technology, can be installed physically and can have 1 virtual instance. It too requires 4GB of RAM in 32-bit and 32GB in 64-bit. The Enterprise and Datacenter editions both need 64GB of RAM in 32-bit and 2TB of RAM in 64-bit. You can have 8 processors in enterprise but 64 in the datacenter flavor. RAM and CPU’s can only be swapped without shutting the server down in the Datacenter edition and it can also have an unlimited number of OS instances but the Enterprise edition can only do 1 physical and 4 virtual instances. Itanium is the big dog of them all supporting 64CPU’s, 2 TB of RAM, Hot swappable processors and memory and has unlimited virtual instances. It does not have hyper-v support however. As with all of these OS, the prices reflect the roles and features of each one ranging from $470 per server all the way up to $3,000 per processor. The...

Jordan Sr. POS421 19 May, 2014 William McKee Before I explain the server roles available to install Windows Server® 2008 R2, I would like to give a brief description of Windows Server 2008 R2. Windows Server 2008 R2 is an operating system, which has a business functionality more than a consumer atmosphere. Window Server 2008 R2 has such things as self-healing NFTS, which for the most part you will not see this function running on your computer. There is also server message block, hyper v, and core packing just to name a few features and functions. There are four different main editions of Windows Server 2008 R2, which are the Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition, Datacenter Edition, and Web Edition. Choosing the correct windows edition will require the administrator or organization to understand the workload needs and requirements to ensure they choose the right operating system. Below is a list of several server roles available in installing Windows Server 2008 R2. Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS) provides customizable services for creating and managing public key certificates used in software security systems employing public key technologies (Microsoft, 2014). Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) provide secure, structured, hierarchical data storage for objects in a network such as users, computers, printers, and services (Microsoft, 2014). Unix, Linux, and Windows Server Critique

...UNIX, Linux, and Windows Server Critique Abstract The following sections in this paper focus on analyzing operating systems for Riordan Manufacturing Inc. that specializes in plastic molding and design. Team B concentrated on five main areas of UNIX, Linux, and Windows Server. The five areas include Security, Administration, Networking, Performance, and Programmability. The team explains the existing systems, followed by comparing advantages and disadvantages of each operating system. The comparisons provide insight for Riordan’s IT specialist and administration considering which system to implement. Interesting topics that relate to security weaknesses, and advantages that UNIX® and Linux® compare against the operating giant, Microsoft Windows Server®. Security At the present time, Riordan Manufacturing’s network configurations consist of a heterogeneous UNIX and Windows environment. UNIX has been around for more than 40 years and is known for its’ robust power and scalability. According to the Open Group, “Security, which is often seen as a weakness for UNIX-based systems, is ensured using dedicated communication lines and secure communications protocols, along with strict authentication procedures” (para. 42). This means UNIX, just like Windows, requires configurations to make it a more secure system. Setting up file permissions, user access controls, as well as shutting down network services not currently active are just a few of the ways that help close the gap...

Windows vs. Linux

...Windows® vs. Linux It was inevitable that operating systems—and computer system in general—at least in the year 2012, are not anything like those envisioned by science fictionists, novelists, and screen writers of the early and mid 20th century. For the most part, they saw computers as a single entity one system controlling everything, like a giant brain reaching out and serving each end-user anonymously. And there were surely no “blue screens of death.” Computers today come in hundreds of flavors. Let’s say you want a tablet instead of a keyboard, no problem. Need to run a multi-million dollar company with an extensive database from home? No problem. Interfaces and operating systems and software applications and hardware upgrades and I/O devices provide each and every person on the planet a customized computer experience. We should thank capitalism for many of the technological advances that have come about over the past fifty years. After all, money has a tendency to flow to the products that make our lives the most enjoyable. Three of the most notable advances in computer history are servers (formerly known as mainframes), Microsoft Windows, and the Linux operating system. Each one in its own right could fill volumes. However, the objective of this paper is to simply highlight a few of the most prominent features each of these advances has to offer. We will start with the most notorious MS Windows®. Microsoft has been in the computer industry...
