Research Assignment Part 1
What are some of the changes in Microsoft Windows Server 2008? As with all great Microsoft products, Windows Server 2008 spares no expense when it comes to being the forefront of server operating systems in the world. There are five different versions of the Server 2008 OS; the Web edition, Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter and Itanium. The Web edition can only be installed as physical or virtual and needs 4GB of RAM in 32-bit mode and 32GB of RAM in 64-bit. Aside from that, it only supports 4 CPU’s and restricts you from hot swapping RAM and CPU’s in the machine. The Standard edition, which includes Hyper-v virtualization technology, can be installed physically and can have 1 virtual instance. It too requires 4GB of RAM in 32-bit and 32GB in 64-bit. The Enterprise and Datacenter editions both need 64GB of RAM in 32-bit and 2TB of RAM in 64-bit. You can have 8 processors in enterprise but 64 in the datacenter flavor. RAM and CPU’s can only be swapped without shutting the server down in the Datacenter edition and it can also have an unlimited number of OS instances but the Enterprise edition can only do 1 physical and 4 virtual instances. Itanium is the big dog of them all supporting 64CPU’s, 2 TB of RAM, Hot swappable processors and memory and has unlimited virtual instances. It does not have hyper-v support however. As with all of these OS, the prices reflect the roles and features of each one ranging from $470 per server all the way up to $3,000 per processor. The phrase 64-bit was big when it came to the Nintendo 64 gaming system and it is still a popular technology. Server 2008 takes advantage of the memory addressability, the parallel processing, the faster bus architecture and the security advances. Not all businesses can just jump right into the 64-bit OS and some don’t really need to. If the 32-bit servers in a deployment are performing adequately and the users are satisfied with the operation of their sites, applications, and search requests, there may be no urgency to convert the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 deployment to 64-bit. However, if performance of the server farm is not meeting your expectations or customers’ expectations, if the user base is growing rapidly, if the application pools are recycling more and more often, or if a scheduled equipment upgrade is approaching, it may be time to advance to a new and growing standard and migrate the equipment and software to 64-bit.
2008 is combination of vista and windows 2003r2. Some new services are introduced in it are RODC one new Read only Domain controllers, WDS (windows deployment services) instead of RIS in 2003 server, shadow copy for each and every folders, boot sequence is changed, installation is 32 bit whereas 2003 it is 16 as well as 32 bit, that's why installation of 2008 is faster, services are known as role in it, and group policy editor is a separate option in ads. In Windows Server 2008, Microsoft is introducing new features and technologies, some of which were not available in Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP1), that will help to reduce the power consumption of server and client operating systems, minimize environmental byproducts, and increase server efficiency.

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 has been designed with energy efficiency in mind, to provide customers with ready and convenient access to a number of new power-saving features. It includes updated support for Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) processor power management (PPM) features, including support for processor performance states (P-states) and processor idle sleep states on multiprocessor systems. These features simplify power management in Windows Server 2008 (WS08) and can be managed easily across servers and clients using Group Policies.
Virtualization is the creation of a virtual (rather than actual) version of something, such as an operating system, a server, a storage device or network resources. This means that the OS can setup a whole fully functional server within the HDD of the physical machine. Doing this means that there would only be one piece of hardware providing all the server needs within the business. The Server Core side of Server 2008 is just a stripped down version of the OS leaving out the GUI and other features so that there is less attack surface in the event of an intrusion. Server Core installs only what is required for a manageable DHCP, File, DNS, Media Services and Active Directory. The PowerShell is an interactive shell and scripting language included in Server 2008 and Windows 7. It drastically reduces the time-to-results with consistent vocabulary and syntax. PowerShell provides a common management automation platform for the Server Admin.
A read-only domain controller (RODC) is a new type of domain controller in the Windows Server® 2008 operating system. With an RODC, organizations can easily deploy a domain controller in locations where physical security cannot be guaranteed. An RODC hosts read-only partitions of the Active Directory® Domain Services (AD DS) database.
Before the release of Windows Server 2008, if users had to authenticate with a domain controller over a wide area network (WAN), there was no real alternative. In many cases, this was not an efficient solution. Branch offices often cannot provide the adequate physical security that is required for a writable domain controller. Furthermore, branch offices often have poor network bandwidth when they are connected to a hub site. This can increase the amount of time that is required to log on. It can also hamper access to network resources.
If you are planning on setting up a new server, hopefully one of the many versions of the Microsoft Server 2008 family will aid you in that venture.

The more features or the better, the more money it will cost. Since Microsoft created multiple versions, they were able to maximize their profits by capturing both types of customers (Large business, and smaller ones). The significance of each of the Windows Server 2008 version depends on what it being used for. Some versions are designed for small businesses, medium businesses, or for Itanium-based systems. The IA-64 version has been optimized for high-workload scenarios like database servers. Most editions of Windows Server 2008 are available in x86-64 and IA-32 versions, but Microsoft has already claimed that Windows Server 2008 is the last 32-bit operating system.1 The new features or enhancements made to Windows Server 2008 are Core OS improvements, Active Directory improvements, Policy related improvements, Disk management and file storage improvements, Protocol and cryptography improvements, and improvements due to client-side (Windows Vista) enhancements. The main difference between Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003 is management and virtualization. Windows Server 2008 has the self-healing NTFS file system while Windows Server 2003 does not. With Windows Server 2003, session creation was a serial operation. With Windows Server 2008, its parallel operation has a better...

...Assignment 1: Evaluating Bias in Research By: Andrew Snyder Professor: Dr. Belinda Hartnett Introduction to Sociology 23JAN2016 Assignment 1: Evaluating Bias in Research By: Andrew Snyder The first step in the Students Guide to Research is to frame your research question. In order to frame your research question properly you need to be formulating the research question precisely and carefully, which makes this one of the most important steps toward ensuring a successful research project. I would say that in order to accomplish this step I would need to build my research question by defining the subject of the research and then proceeding to explain as to how I would measure or evaluate it in order to answer the question at hand. In identifying the major assumptions and biases of the drug industry that underlie drug research you can pretty much find out that the research has been rigged to favor the drug itself and or the drug company. The reason being is that the research will one way or another point to the manufacturer of the drug paying off the people that are reviewing the drug so that the article will favor the drug company and will lead to the company making more money. These companies favor money far more than helping people. As a consumer, I feel pretty much the same way about what the article speaks about. I feel that the only reason why we don’t have cures for many diseases in this day and age is because the greedy chief executives of these pharmaceutical...

Unit 3 Research Assignment 1

...Unit 3 Research Assignment 1 Exploring Reverse Engineering Reverse engineering can be viewed as the process of analyzing a system to: 1. Identify the system's components and their interrelationships 2. Create representations of the system in another form or a higher level of abstraction 3. Create the physical representation of that system. Reverse engineering is very common in such diverse fields as software engineering, entertainment, automotive, consumer products, microchips, chemicals, electronics, and mechanical designs. For example, when a new machine comes to market, competing manufacturers may buy one machine and disassemble it to learn how it was built and how it works. A chemical company may use reverse engineering to defeat a patent on a competitor's manufacturing process. In civil engineering, bridge and building designs are copied from past successes so there will be less chance of catastrophic failure. In software engineering, good source code is often a variation of other good source code. Reverse engineering enables the duplication of an existing part by capturing the component's physical dimensions, features, and material properties. Before attempting reverse engineering, a well-planned life-cycle analysis and cost/benefit analysis should be conducted to justify the reverse engineering projects. Reverse engineering is typically cost effective only if the items to be reverse engineered reflect a high investment or will be reproduced in large quantities...
