...Decision Every day, from the minute we wake up, till the time we go to bed, we are faced with choices. The choices we face on a day-to-day basis range from getting out of bed and starting our day, to investing our hard earned money into buying a new car or house. We make so many choices in just one day and most of the time we don’t even ponder the decisions we end up making. Recently, in the past year, after being involved in an automobile accident I was faced with, what seemed to be a very big decision. This very big decision was whether or not to move back to Cleveland after living on my own for five years. I pondered this choice for a very long time and in the process many thoughts crossed my mind. I had a considerable amount of concerns while pondering this thought such as where I would live, where would I work, and if I was ready to start my life all over again in a new but familiar place. Since my automobile accident, moving back to Cleveland was the biggest decision I was faced with making yet. I contemplated it for about six months before making a definitive choice. My biggest concern in moving back home was where was I going to live? Five years ago, when I moved out of my parent’s house, for college, I told myself that I would never move back. I told myself that I would never move back not because I didn’t love or care for my parents but because I felt that going to college was a step toward becoming an adult and moving back home would be anything other...

...consists of three separate plays, “From These Green Heights”, “The Townlands of Brazil”, and “The Consequence of Lightning”. Each of these individual plays reflects their own separate problems experienced by the inhabitants of the Ballymun Towers. Families that were offered to live in these flats saw it as a chance for a new start. Most of the new tenants saw this as the perfect opportunity for a brighter future and as a way to get out of their current unstable homes which some have even collapsed and claimed the lives of several people. Although in each of these plays, the residents of the Ballymun Tower all experiences different situations, each play are cleverly linked to each other in one way or another. Throughout “From These Green Heights”, the play oscillates between two time frames, the 1960’s and early 2000, each focusing on a period of Dessie’s life. At the start of “From These Green Heights”, Dessie, as a child, along with his parents, Christy and Carmel, were one of the first families to move into the newly constructed Ballymun Towers. Although the towers were far from finish, which was promised shopping centers, schools, medical clinics, and a playground for the children, the families moving into these flats had high hopes for their new home. As expressed by Christy, “We weren’t just moving up in the world – we were moving skyward” (p.4) and stated by Carmel “Moving to Ballymun seemed almost as classy as moving to America” (p.6), the Ballymun Towers...

...changes that are bound to happen. Whether it be starting a new job, moving away, or going to school. Change can be exciting, but it can also be very frightening. The beauty and curse about change, is that you don’t know what is going to happen next. The book Who Moved My Cheese illustrates this concept very well, and I learned many things from this story that I can apply towards myself. I have recently had two new changes in my life. I have moved away from home and I have started college. Both of these changes are interconnected, since I moved away for college, but that doesn’t make them any easier. At first I was nervous about this new change, and I still am a little bit. Everything was essentially handed to me at home and high school was never a challenge for me. Now I have to remember to go grocery shopping, do dishes, pay bills, and keep up with school work at the same time. However, I knew this was something that I had to do, and it was, deep down, something I really wanted to do. After reading this story I think one of the biggest lessons that I could have utilized for myself, for this change, was the preparation. Hem and Haw were not ready to move on when their cheese ran out and I was not ready either. They kept going back to the station each day with the mindset that the cheese would be there forever, while I kept going home each day with the mindset that I had plenty of time to worry about moving later. I should not have been shocked by the change and neither should...

...Packing up your room and leaving your home to head off to college is something that everyone has thought about and some dream about. I was one of them, excited to be the only one in my family to made it to college. I was excited to finally get out of the house away from my parents, finally have some freedom and make my dad proud of me for leaving the town that my family has always stayed in for so long. But as soon as I started actually packing my things and getting ready for school I began to panic and rethinking my decision on leaving. I remember packing my clothes in a big box the night before and crying on my floor thinking about how I was leaving home for longer than I ever had before. High school teachers always talk about how they are...

...benefits etc. Often organisations pay for the locating a job for the spouse and even pay them salary till they find a job, this is known as ‘trailing spouse’ benefits. The research show that many international assignments had failed. Traditionally a failed assignment is when the expatriate come back home before he/she is scheduled to do so. However a ‘failed’ assignment can also be defined in terms of poor quality performance & not meeting the expectations of their supervisors. Research done by Black & Gregerson (1999) show that 10%-20% of expatriates returned home before the scheduled to do so. 30% of expatriates fail to meet the expectations of their supriviours and 25% soon left their jobs after returning home. Why did so many assignments failed? The three main reseasons for the international assignemnts failer is the expatriates spouse/partner failer to adapt to the new culture/place/way of living, family concers and the expatraites inabily to adapt. Another problem with expatriates is the process of repatriation. The perception of organisations is that all it is need for repatriation process is to buy the expatriate and his/her family a plane ticket back home, however the studies suggests that the process...

...convection current cools and descends forming the descending limb of the convection current. This pulls with it the lithosphere in a process known as dragging. This is proved by the moving of continents as seen in Wegener’s theory. He believed that there used to be one super continent called pangea 225 million years ago which later split up into the continents we have today showing that plate tectonic must give and take to move the continents we have today that have split off from the single continent of pangea. However Wegener’s theory is unable to explain how continental movement could have taken place. More evidence for plates giving and taking is palaeomagnetism which is the study of the Earth's magnetic field in rocks. Sea floor spreading was discovered at the North Atlantic Ridge where alternating polarity of rock can be seen which forms the ocean crust. Iron particles in lava erupted on the ocean floor are aligned with the earths magnetic field. As the lava solidifies, these particles provide a permanent record of the earth’s polarity at the time of the eruption. The result is a series of magnetic stripes with rocks aligned alternatively towards the North and South Pole. The striped pattern is mirrored exactly on either side of a mid oceanic ridge. This suggests that ocean crust is slowly spreading away from this boundary. The oceanic crust gets older...

...nineteen years of my life, obviously I wanted to move to a city and not get stuck driving behind tractors every morning. Many people have felt this before, including the author of Home at Last, David Mengestu. What people don’t realize, however, is that moving away to a different location is not going to change where your home is. Mengestu finds this out in the essay, through chronological events of his childhood and early adulthood. In his personal essay, Mengestu writes about his journey of moving to the neighborhood of Kensington in Brooklyn, New York, and uncovers his epiphany of the meaning of home to the reader. Mengestu believes that you can recreate home while moving to a new location, while I believe that home is where you believe your family is, and that becomes part of your background....

...the May of 7th grade my family made the decision that we would be moving all the way across the country to Oregon. This seemed crazy. I had lived in Bedford, New York for as long as I could remember. I had good friends, a good school, and a pretty good life. There really wasn't any reason to leave. The day I told my friends I would be moving, they were both upset and completely surprised. All of them had no idea why I would leave. Neither did I. We tried to come up with different ways to convince my parents to stay in Bedford. I lectured them on how my life there was absolutely great, and I didn't need to just leave it all of a sudden. Unfortunately this didn't help. Even after our long discussions, my parents...

...Moving headquarters overseas has been a growing trend since the 1990s as more and more countries become open to the idea of relocation. In our case, we saw examples of big multi-national companies moving headquarters across continents, like Nokia moving from Finland to the United States, IBM from the United States to China and HSBC from London to Hong Kong. This report will examine the reason behind this phenomenon and what are the consequences as a result of that. There are some key reasons that lead to this trend. i) Moving closer to the Asian market As Asia continues to charge ahead in its development, many companies want to fight for a slice of the pie and are moving into Asia to take advantage of the growing demand there. For example, Procter & Gamble (P&G) has this year moved its global headquarters for their beauty and baby-care business, including its biggest brand, Pampers, from Cincinnati to Singapore. They have expressed that the move to Singapore was motivated by a need for P&G brands to be closer to the growing number of consumers in Asia. As we can see from this, multi-national companies see the importance of the Asian market and believe that in order to take advantage of the potential there, need to relocate their headquarters. It is no longer enough to just have operations in Asia, but it is also helpful to have headquarters within the region to facilitate development. ii) Moving away from heavy corporate taxes The next trend is that of...

...As a college student, I did not realize the importance and the amount of responsibility that it takes to maintain a dorm room living on my own, in comparison to the expectations living at home under adult supervision. Back at home as a high school student, my priorities and expectations from my parents were to attend school five days out of the week, manage my time to complete all assignments and to complete all chores that were expected to be done on time. Some of these chores consisted of cleaning my room, taking out the trash, and do my own laundry. When it was time to clean and organize my room, I had a tendency to clean and organize it the way I felt most comfortable. I did not have to worry about arranging all my personal valuables with limited space or share a room with another person and their own valuables. It was easy for me to place objects where and how I wanted and not have to feel stressed out on where I could find certain items when I needed them. My ability to organize my room and remove myself from distractions as a college student is not the same as to living at home. The most challenging, and time consuming problems moving into a dorm room is trying to manage a room that has provided me limited space on what I can work with when moving into a whole new environment. Moving into a dorm room can cause problem such as organization of the room, the cleanliness of the room and dealing with distractions. First, placing and organizing personal items in the dorm...
