...opportunities for collaboration and integration but in the short to medium term austerity is set to continue and may even accelerate. With constant change becoming the new norm in terms of our service delivery there has become a need to ensure we have an effective management structure to support this. Following the appointment of a new Director felt it appropriate to review the most senior management in the organisation, resulting in the reduction of the senior team from nine to seven. Out of the seven a total of four of the senior team are relatively new in post and with all this change there has been an obvious shift change in the leadership style. Whilst styles are obviously forming along with adapting to new team dynamics there has been more of a focus around engaging more effectively within the workforce and bringing people along with the changes rather than these feeling forced. The previous Director approached things completely different taking a more directive / consultative style. An example of this would be his blog. This was made available on our internal intranet and was updated regularly but this only informed us of what he wanted to say and his thoughts about what was going on in the organisation, it didn’t really provide an opportunity to comment or influence any of the decisions being made. The new Director has a completely different style that is more around a consultative/participative style. For instance his ‘weekly blog’ no longer exists in its old form...

...accountable, responsible, and trustworthy all on the premise of who you are, yourself. For some of us it begins with the experience of college, some it may happen a little sooner or perhaps a little later. For me, it was later. I had just recently completed a college program in downtown Chicago and landed my first real job. It was acquired not through any linkage to any work study program from school or helping out friends of relatives or anyone I personally knew. This was the real deal. I was working for a huge international insurance company by the name of INA. They were known for their property and casualty underwriting business. Soon after I came on board, INA was merged to form a new and bigger company, CIGNA. I had hit the big time! I was hired to assist a gentleman by the name of John Anderson who lived in Elmhurst, Illinois. I bonded with him immediately upon interviewing with him, and I was offered the job before I left the interview. I was elated. The pay was great and it afforded me to become even more independent by getting my own apartment. I enjoyed my position. Life was great, for a while. I respected my boss and had a great rapport with him and others within the office. My boss, on the other hand, was not liked by many in our office. He was a high producer and others were...

...For four weeks this summer I lived in a place so different from my home that I questioned whether I was truly in the same state. I was one of four interns dispatched to Upstate New York to live, work, and play. It was a genuinely interesting experience for three reasons. The first is that I had never been apart from my mother for such a long period of time. The second is that I had never had a paying job before. The third is that I had never lived with strangers in a cabin in the woods before (and by the rules of horror movies I should not be able to write this essay). Out of all of the great experiences I had while I was working Upstate the best experience I had was a day where we didn’t actually do work. I put on the standard khakis, t-shirt,...

...while Jobs focused on fighting the health problems that ultimately took his life on October 5. Many are watching to see how this unique leadership transition will work out for Apple, but it is not the first unique leadership transition they have faced. Jobs, of course, was the cofounder of Apple, but organizational infighting led to his ouster when John Sculley took over in the mid-1980s. Sculley oversaw the growth of the Macintosh and thus the company, but when that growth slowed and new internal issues arose, a series of CEOs failed to get the company back on track. In 1997, a more experienced Jobs returned and drove tremendous growth. The leadership history of Apple is a good reminder that a leadership transition–particularly one involving the founder– presents both risk and opportunity to any organization. If done poorly, it spawns uncertainty, conflict, and stress, stalling growth and exacerbating misalignment that may or may not have already been there. If done well, it brings new vision and strategic clarity to the organization. Indeed, success for an organization begins with the leader and the culture he or she creates and nurtures. Much has been written about how to manage effective transition, but most of it focuses on the outgoing founder or CEO. Our work as advisors to midmarket companies has enabled us to closely observe numerous transitions,...

...My New Journey I realized that my journey from high school to college would not be so easy for me. When it come to high school I didn't do as well as I wanted to. My grades were not something i was so happy about. I was the kid that my friends wouldn't see everyday in class and I didn't really care too much when it was time to study. Now as I start my new journey into the college life I know it’s going to be a challenge and I'm going to have to change in some ways to prepare myself for success such as not missing class, being able to make the time to try understand what the teacher is teaching, and most important complete any assignments that may be assigned for homework or class work. The first way I'm going to prepare myself for college is to keep good attendance. When I think back to my high school days the one thing I remember was skipping class or not being able to wake up early enough in the morning to make it to school. In order to break out this habit I would have to do a few things. One reason why I didn’t go to class in high school was because it was boring and after awhile going became pointless. So to begin with, I would have to tell myself over that school might be boring at times but going is important for my future and to my parents. In addition to reminding myself about the importance I would also have to fight through any sickness that may occur because missing one day of class, is one class too many. With the speed that college moves there...

...Buying My First Sports Car Joel Wood Communications 170 03/19/2012 Rhonda Herb Going fast has been something I have loved all my life. All thru out my child hood I dreamed of getting myself a brand-new sports car. Both the GM Corvette and the Dodge Viper are both absolutely awesome options for such a decision. Even with both being so great it still took me doing a lot of research of both my personal situations and the different options that each vehicle offers to allow me to narrow it down to one. They both offer such a precision vehicle that it literally took going into much greater detail with the vehicles just to make the final decision. With all that being said I will further this story by elaborating why the GM Corvette is an all-around better buy for one in a similar condition as myself. The biggest thing I took into consideration was the overall performance of the vehicles, especially since we are talking sports cars. The Dodge Viper comes with and engine that uses ten cylinders which equals massive performance but it is also a whole lot more maintenance and up keep. The GM Corvette only offers 8 cylinders in which is obviously two less but, even with only eight cylinders it still offers massive amounts of horse power. Obviously the added two cylinders of the Dodge Viper will offer more performance but with more performance also comes a lot more money spent. The added price variation just for a little bit...

...Arcacia Godfrey 1/15/15 Unit 2 Assignment 2 New Technology in my field Electrical Engineers at Oregon state university have developed new technology to monitor medical vital signs, with sophisticated sensors so small and cheap they could fit onto a bandage, be manufactured in high volumes and cost less than a quarter. A patent is being processed for the monitoring system and it’s now ready for clinical trials, researchers say when commercialized, it could be used as a disposable electronic sensor with many potential applications due to its powerful performance, small size, and low cost. Heart monitoring is one obvious candidate, since the system could gather data on some components of an EKG, such as pulse rate and atrial fibrillation its ability. Its ability to measure EEG brain signals could find use in nursing care for patients with dementia. ‘’current technology allows you to measure these pulse rate and skin responses. Also the university of Utah engineers have developed a polarizing filter that allows in more light, leading the way for mobile device displays that last much longer on a single battery charge and cameras that can shoot in dim light. Polarizers are indispensable in digital photography and LCD displays, but they block enormous amounts of light wasting energy and making it more difficult to photography in low light. ...the United States in 1994 from China. My mother and I decided to immigrate in order to give me a better education and opportunities that I otherwise would not have gotten back in China. Because my mother wanted the best possible education for me, she was very adamant that I go to a good school that will give me various opportunities to better myself as a person and allow me to pursue a degree that would lead to a satisfactory career. As a result, choosing a college was somewhat difficult. I had to choose something that was nearby and affordable, while also offering the degree I wanted and opportunities I needed. Naturally, my choice was MIT, and given the proximity to my house as well as the affordability and the great curriculum, I chose MIT easily. Fortunately, for me I made the right choice, as the professors are very courteous and friendly, and the curriculum is not too difficult. When not going to school I usually spend time at the gym, playing various sports, or relaxing at home with my cat. One of the things I had to leave behind aside from my friends and family when we moved was my pet birds. As a result, my house felt empty and a few years after moving here, we got a cat. His name is Bobby, and although he is sometimes annoying, he brings a very positive energy to my household. The number of things going through my mind on the first day of college were uncountable. I was very worried and scared at the same time. I was afraid my professors were going to be mean and strict...

...Home Linking Technology The article is a brief informative piece about home linking technology, which is the practice of linking house hold appliances to one another and the outside world. This would all great possibilities like the one given by Maytag CEO Lloyd D. Ward, “Consumers could conceivably watch a cooking program on an interactive TV set and send the recipe to the refrigerator, which in turn sends a list of ingredients to your handy online grocer.” The article mentioned that several big name companies like Microsoft, Maytag and GE are working on joint ventures to develop this technology while others like Sunbeam have created new subsidiaries based on this technology. The information in this article was very limited. I do not think that in depth research was conducted on home linking technology before it was written. It gives a very vague idea around the technology but does not go into much detail about what’s available now or what’s realistically coming in the future. The article did cite some high ranking officials for some big name companies, they provided a grand vision for the future but no real plans or expectations. I feel that this article is a good quick look at what is possible, for someone that is uninformed. The article is too short for you to lose interest in it and get bored. The information provided is very fascinating and really captivates you into thinking about what could be possible. Works Cited Smith, E. (2000). Appliances get smart. Retrieved...

...person is focusing on something different, thinking of something different, and noticing something different. That is why every person has a story to tell, and it is why we can learn from every single person. And this essay is about my short autobiography, which can give you an indication of my personal story. I came into this world on the windy morning of October 15, 1990. I was born in Cua Viet, a small town in Vietnam. I am the 5th child among the 5 children of my parent. I grew up and spent almost my whole life in my country. Now, I am the second year student in Business Accounting- the 2 year program. I have been through many life-changing situations in past 3 years. These situations have had both positive and negative impacts to me. My goals from 5 years ago compare to my current goals are totally different. After finishing 12th grade, I just wanted to become a Mathematics teacher, so I went to Hue University and tried my best to achieve the goal. However, when I was the 2nd year student of the Hue University, I found that I was no longer interested in becoming a teacher. Hence, I dropped the school and wanted to get a better education in Canada and seek opportunities in accounting. Since then, my life has changed. On one hand, starting my new life in a strange country is so hard. When I just came, I faced many difficulties, such as the language, the weather and the life style. Firstly, language was a big matter when I first came. Speaking was one of the linguistic problems...

...Freddy Rodriguez Prof. Chamberlain English 063 16 Oct, 2012 My Hate for Work We all deal with some sort of issue that makes our work experience negative. In my case its cooking at a restaurant where all you hear is kids screaming uncontrollably from the control point window in the grill, the fog coming from both the fryer and grill, and last, but not least the “pushing and shoving” from the grill team when we’re pulling off a thousand dollar hour. If you haven’t guessed yet, its Friendly’s “Where ice cream makes the meal”... and my hate for people. I’m just kidding, but I don’t like rude people; like if I’m nice to you why can’t you return the nice gesture? Anyways (back on track) its crazy how many sounds you hear, things you see and objects you feel within a five hour shift that actually feels like two because of working through a rush period. Children children children, I hate them. Hate is a strong word? Trust me I KNOW! I cannot fathom the loud screaming that sounds like metal to metal screeching; all because mommy won’t them get ice cream. The sad part is that I work in the grill and its sort of tucked away in the back. Imagining the intensity of the screaming? Quite horrible isn’t it? As if the loud grinding gears of their voices isn’t enough, I have the pleasure of watching them run around like its free game day at chuck e cheese or something. The only part I enjoy of them running around like maniacs is seeing the huge bright shiny smile on their faces, it makes...

...Kimberly Tucker, Chris Salt, Ashley Solomon Case 7: Mattel: Overcoming Marketing and Manufacturing Challenges 11/01/2010 Marketing Management 6800 Section 004 The Problem: The problem surrounding Mattel Inc., one of the world’s largest toy companies, is their mismanagement of international subcontractors and vendors and the production of certain toys (the manufacturing process), as well as their inability to adapt their marketing strategy or product to the constantly changing “demographic and socioeconomic trends” (Ferrell, et. all 466). This is supported by Mattel’s legal battle with Carter Bryant and MGA, their forced recall of certain toys that were manufactured overseas, and the increasing rate at which traditional toys are becoming less appealing to today’s young audience. Essentially, Mattel’s mismanagement and oversight lead to violations in terms of ethical and social responsibilities and safety standards. Issues Relevant to the Problem: Mattel’s problem of mismanagement can be divided into several issues that need to be considered: legal issues, international supply chain issues, and an increase in technology-based toys. In regards to legal issues, Mattel has been involved in prolonged litigation with Carter Bryant and MGA over a breach of an employment contract and copyright infringement. Due to Mattel’s poor management of its overseas manufacturers, in which unauthorized subcontractors and third-party suppliers were hired and unsafe materials used, several...

...sleeping the whole day and I got so many thoughts playing on my mind so I choose to rise get the laptop and type. 1. Second to my final destination ( … Well this is not a horror film; this destination I’m talking about is the force or factor that makes me go and face every life’s circumstances I am facing. My ultimate dream is to become a flight attendant, cabin crew, flight crew or whatever they call this. Yes, I’ve been dreaming to become one someday and I am trying to give my very best for this not to become an unclear vision. I want this to manifest, I want this to happen in my life in every good ways or means I can. As I’ve said on my recent posts, I love to go somewhere, I love to experience different culture, and I want to meet new and different people. There are some times in my life when I face mirror, stand classically and gracefully and try to imitate flight attendants posture and speaking. I used to act like there are passengers and I am orienting them with safety procedures inside the plane. To train to become a flight attendant costs so much, that’s why my parents wasn’t able to send me to those schools practicing this course. But I’ve got this what they called life’s principle. I believe with all my heart that nothing is definitely impossible that my future has been planned and decided. I just love the thought that God is faithful, with His words, His promises and plans. I trust Him with this. This is my heart’s very secret petition to heaven and to Jesus. His...
