Spain Social media technologies are becoming a fundamental component of education. This study extends the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) to identify factors that influence the perceived advantages and relevance of Facebook as a learning tool. The proposed model is based on previous models of UTAUT. Constructs from previous models were used such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation and habit. Additionally, two new perspectives were added: perceived advantages and perceived relevance of Facebook as a social media platform. It provides some insights into students' behavioural intentions, and such an understanding can help faculty to examine their assumptions about the role of social media technologies in the teaching and learning process. The study participants were students enrolled in a Spanish public university. Data from 956 usable questionnaires were tested against the research model. Our results provide support to the model and reveal a good model fit. In light of these findings, implications for theory and practice are discussed. Introduction Social media technologies...

...Applying the Sociological Perspectives Morgan Barkley SOC/100 February 15, 2016 George Brady Applying the Sociological Perspectives Like the printing press and telephone, social media has gained an influential foothold in modern society. A major component of social media happens to be the social networking aspect. Social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter reach an enormous collective database of individuals across the globe, from the United States to Japan and many more. Thus, it makes sense that this very platform is steadily becoming the primary news source for more and more people. Application of the three main sociological perspectives of functionalism, conflict, and interactionism to such popular websites can be of great benefit for sociological research. However, which view provides the best results? Let's take a look. When it comes to functionalism, “Think of society as a living organism in which each part of the organism contributes to its survival. This view is the functionalist perspective, which emphasizes the way in which the parts of society are structured to maintain its stability. In examining any aspect of society, then, functionalists emphasize the contribution that it makes to overall social stability" (Schaefer, 2015, p. 13). Notice the keywords of "survival" and "stability". Without social media, you are completely able to live as it does not provide substance, medical care, or even a roof over your head. Social media is merely a tool...

...ago, all the teenagers of my age create blogs for fun where they talked about themselves, their life and hobbies. I always wanted to create one but I never did. Actually, I don’t know why but it doesn’t matter since I had the chance to create a blog thanks to this SSK1212 course. That’s not all. The general topic is related to New technologies. Once I heard it, I knew what’s my topic is going to be about: Facebook. The idea was great but needed to be more focused, that’s why I chose to talk about Facebook Addiction. It seems very easy to manage a blog and it is. However, finding the right information to put in your blog can be difficult. And it was the case for me. In fact, at the beginning I had to search for academical sources in the library. The first difficulty was that I’ve never used the library resources such as Ebscohost. Fortunately, and thanks to the numerous workshops we had and the help of the librarians I learned how to used it and could find sources for my researches. The other difficulty was that I didn’t find the book that matches with my topic. Indeed, it’s a very current and specific subject. This difficulty too was no longer a difficulty as soon as I found academic sources on the internet. The main academic source in Internet was an article called: The Potential Facebook Addiction. This article was just matching perfectly with my topic. It contained current interesting information and above all five cues that allow to any Facebook user to know whether he is...

...current strategy in the e-business of social networking. Facebook’s competitors are identified. Investigations are carried out to determine if Facebook’s strategy is effective in staying ahead of its competitors. It was found out that Facebook faced a few major problems. Intellectual property disputes with Harvard based houseSYSTEM’s creator, Aaron J. Greenspan and ConnectU had affected Facebook’s public image in 2004. Privacy issues problems forced Facebook to repetitively apologize to its users and made many amendments to its products. In late 2007, Facebook encountered over capacity in its data centers resulting in a drop in its user visiting Facebook website. With the existence of its competitors, MySpace and Twitter, Facebook found it challenging to expand its operation. It was recommended that Facebook should remain friends with its competitors and engaged in a collaborative alliance in developing technologies for the social network platform. Ensuring adequate privacy user controls is the key to customer satisfaction; therefore regaining trust back from Facebook’s user is crucial in its maintaining good business-customer relationship. 2 II. Statement of the Problem Since the day of its incorporation in 2004 until today, Facebook has faced several issues that affect the relationship with its customers and competitors. These issues can be categorized into intellectual property disputes, privacy controls and advertising ads controversy, network capacity, market...

...whole new type of addiction, Social Media. With the introduction of networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, the world is on its way to developing a new and dangerous bad habit. 1. Requires little effort to “catch-up” The layout of the profiles made on these sites are simple. We can easily view a single sentence update posted by a friend or celebrity and feel connected. Facebook in particular is a very easy site to use to stay in touch with the world around us, just one click and we have friends, family, news, games, videos and almost everything imagined at our fingertips. 2. Allows us to inform multiple people simultaneously. Now this is connected in a way to point 1. Having a profile on one or more of these sites, we are able to post one status such as “ at lunch with my sister” and at the moment all the friends on my page know exactly what I am doing. Just recently though Facebook has advanced this and made “tagging” available where you can tag a friend in your status or a specific place and it will appear on a map on your page. As in point 1 this also makes it very easy to stay in the loop. 3. Family interaction I am speaking for myself on this one but I am almost certain it applies to everyone in the Facebook world, I have family on my page to keep the lines of communication open. You have family in another state and they can attend a family get together via Facebook just by the photos, video, and status updates made by you and those in actual attendance...

At first she believed that it was her and this whole time my friends friend thought that it was her which it wasn’t, and the person that was pretending to be my friend blocked my friend from Facebook so she wouldn’t be able to see her fake Facebook account in order for her not to find out that someone else is pretending to be her, while they are not. I told my friend to do something about it and tell on that anonymous person, because they definitely should get a some kind of punishment for doing something...

...@02670425 Envy on Facebook There is a tremendous amount of material shared on social networks each day. Facebook is the largest of all the social networks with a whopping 30 billion pieces of information uploaded ach month. Social networks have been linked to many negative feelings including, but not limited to: depression, jealousy, social tension, and social overload. Krasnova et al conducted research to attempt to explain the relationship between passive following on social networks and life satisfaction. Two different studies were conducted. The first studied the scale, scope, and nature of envious emotions related to Facebook use. The second study observed the role of envy and how it affects passive following on FB and life satisfaction. 584 Facebook users took online surveys, answering questions regarding emotions experienced while on and after using Facebook. Researchers asked open and closed-ended questions. The first question asked participants how they felt after they used Facebook. Researchers found that 46% of the sample reported positive feelings and the majority of negative emotions (36.9%) were boredom, anger, frustration. Envy was at the bottom of the list with only 1.2% of users admitting to it. The experimenters believed that people were reluctant to admit to being envious as it is socially unacceptable to envy others. The second question was asked as a general question rather than a direct question; what causes others to feel frustration on Facebook? Envy was the...

... July 10, 2013 Confidentiality As I was looking on the internet trying to locate a website to write my paper about, an article from Consumerreports.org got my attention. The article was about social media privacy. In June 2012, Consumerreports.org posted an article called “Facebook & your privacy: (Who sees the data you share on the biggest social network”), which attempts to explain and give several reasons how your privacy is being violated by social media. The article has some great points but also had many facts that made me question its validity. The article in Consumerreports.org talks a lot about how Facebook is sharing all of your information and how confusing its privacy controls are. For example, part of the article states that Facebook has many privacy controls, but good luck trying to understand them. A new study by (Siegel &Gale 2012), New York-based consultants, finds that Facebook’s and Google’s privacy policies are tougher to comprehend than the typical bank credit card agreement or government notice. There is some untruthfulness in that because I am an avid Facebook user. Finding the privacy controls are very easy but it does take a little time to decipher what you need to do to make your profile private. I think Facebook has done a nice job trying to protect the privacy of users with a new technology which never before has been used at this magnitude. Most of the recent changes that this...

...Facebook Discussion Questions 1. How does Facebook’s privacy management of users’ personal information affect the behavior of Facebook patrons? = Well, Facebook, generates most of its revenue from targeted advertisements based on user’s demography and interest, so the more data users share publicly the more money it can mint from ads (Nelson & Quick, 2013). Let’s say for example I don’t publish my likes and dislikes on Facebook. Then they will have to find a way to push me into doing that. The moment I go in and enter that information I will be immediately targeted as a consumer with certain needs and Facebook will be the platform that will bring them to me. 2. Being a college student you are likely a Facebook user. What is your opinion regarding how Facebook deals with privacy issues? What have you done (or decided not to do) with regard to protecting your privacy on Facebook (or other social networking sites)? =As a college student I do have a Facebook. In my opinion, if Facebook is seeking to become dominant on the internet they should follow through on providing privacy for its users and personal choice. I don’t agree that as a user, you really don’t have control of the privacy in your page. Even though I have a page, I don’t like to post all my information there or any other social networking site. I have never believed that you are totally protected. I always recommended my family and close friends not to put personal data (phone number, address, private...

...Student-Teacher Interaction on Facebook: What Students Find Appropriate Is it Credible or Not Credible? New Social Networking Sites (SNS) such as Facebook, and other popular sites, provide teachers with greater opportunities for reaching out to their students. As these technologies develop, there is not a widespread understanding of how they could be best be used in education. Authors Brehane Teclehaimanot and Torey Hickman present information in their article that helps to develop an understanding student teacher interaction using these new technologies, by investigating what students find appropriate levels of student-teacher interactions on Facebook. The results indicate that students find passive behaviors more appropriate than active behaviors with no difference depending on whether students or teachers perform the behaviors. Additionally, men find student-teacher interactions on Facebook more appropriate than women do, while there is no difference between undergraduate and graduate students, also age was not a big factor in finding the interactions more or less appropriate (Teclehaimanot, B. & Hickman, T). After taking in account all information and criteria to evaluate the source, I found this source credible for my purpose of writing. The authors of the article seem to be creditable. They both have Ph.D.’s, and have professional experience in technology, writing, and education. Dr. Torey Hickman served as a doctoral research assistant at University of Toledo....

Nothing but sending “Yo” to your friends--Stupid but simple. The app, which debuted in April, has been downloaded two million times, according to Or Arbel, the chief executive. "We Yo with co-workers alerting them that a meeting is starting; I Yo with my wife as a 'hi' during a busy day, I Yo with friends, without any more expectation or need than a Yo back." -- Investor of Yo John Borthwick As much as $10 million. That is the valuation investors have assigned to the new smartphone app. ere is how it success, from my personal perspective. Usefulness is the success metric of any technology rather than capabilities. Say, we need alert someone of something. A phone call might be too intrusive or unnecessary, a text message is not noticeable enough, an email may be even more ignorable. Fortunately, now we have Yo, that could help us fill this gap, fill those tiny moments that we don’t want it to be ignored but would rather not bother others by making a phone call. Technology is meant to simplify people’s life. By using this app, we can save lots of words by simply saying “Yo”. Under certain context, it’s not necessary to “make things so clear”, both the massage deliver and receiver knows what’s...

After learning that some of my closest friends are undocumented with no way of paying for college, what I was doing in MinKwon became more than just volunteering. MinKwon taught me to use the power of my voice.
