...DIFFEENCES INVOLVING STUDENT AND TEACHERS INDIVIDUAL DIFFEENCES INVOLVING TEACHERS AND STUDENT ON SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES Rosie Davis South University Dr. Zerilli Abstract In today’s society lines are being blurred as to what is acceptable and what is not. I feel that no matter how advanced we as a whole become, it is never acceptable for a teacher to be anything other than a mentor and a guide to a student. Therefore, my theory is that a teacher will not accept advances from a student offering friendship on social media sites. According to multiple rating sites, Social Networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter are found around the world by millions. They both have a fan base consisting of different age groups, different personalities, and different professions with different “agendas”. Supporters of these social networking sites debate that these online societies promote increased communication with family and friends, educating people with valuable computer skills, and allowing interactions with different people around the world. Because these social networking sites are widely viewed and used by a variety of people such as students, teaches, professionals, and housewives. It is viewed that it is inappropriate for students and teachers to be fiends on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter because it is a violation of ethics, it can create a lack of respect between the student and teacher, and it can also...

...Standard English use in the Jamaica classroom and one methodology that a teacher of English might employ to combat these negative effects. The social media craze is one that affects most if not all persons today. Whether we are old, young, from different races or cultures, we have been exposed to these channels of interaction in some way. Not only that but we have a wide range of these Medias to select from. While some operate one or two accounts, there are those with multiple social media accounts for example Facebook, Twitter, Tagged, Viber, Whatsapp and so on. These types of media serve many different purposes including the replacement of traditional news forms, keeping in contact with friends and family members and to promote businesses and social events. The reality of it all, however, is that everything has both advantages and disadvantages. In this case we examine the negative effects of social media on the use of Standard English in the Jamaican Classroom. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to emphasize the extent to which the use of social media has contributed to the inappropriate use of the Standard Jamaican English and the poor expression in written language among our Jamaican students. Jamaica has been described as a bilingual society with the Jamaican Creole (JC) and Standard Jamaican English (SJE) being the major and minor languages. However the problem being faced is that while our students have good mastery of the JC, it has become a difficult task to teach...

...environments - involving both face-to-face and remote interactions - make it easier to adapt learning programs to constraints such as residents’ location and low teacher-student ratio. Social networking sites (SNS) such as Facebook®, while not originally intended to be used as learning environments, may be adapted for the distance-learning part of training programs. The purpose of our study was to explore the use of SNS for asynchronous distance learning in a blended learning environment as well as its influence on learners’ face-to-face interactions. Methods: We conducted a qualitative study and carried out semi-structured interviews. We performed purposeful sampling for maximal variation to include eight general practice residents in 2nd and 3rd year training. A thematic analysis was performed. Results: The social integration of SNS facilitates the engagement of users in their learning tasks. This may also stimulate students’ interactions and group cohesion when members meet up in person. Conclusions: Most of the general practice residents who work in the blended learning environment we studied had a positive appraisal on their use of SNS. In particular, we report a positive impact on their engagement in learning and their participation in discussions during face-to-face instruction. Further studies are needed in order to evaluate the effectiveness of SNS in blended learning environments and the appropriation of SNS by teachers. Background Post-graduate training allows...

...Online Social Networking Paper Name SOC/100 Date Instructor Name Online Social Networking Paper Social websites have become a large part of everyday life for many, and none looms larger than Facebook. A social network with 1.11 billion monthly users, and 655 million daily active users ("Iamwire", 2013), Facebook, at its very basic core offers the ability to communicate with others from all over the world. What is communicated, and to whom is entirely up to the user. Some choose to update friends and family on happenings in their lives, while others take a more passive approach and use the site to simply stay in touch with loved ones. Videos, pictures, and music can be shared on Facebook, and as a result has been a key promotional tool for companies looking to sell their products. Official pages have been created for films, artists, food chains, and various other services as a way to spread word of new promotions, as well as communicate directly to consumers. Some of the team’s experiences were initially consumed by Facebook. The ability to find old friends, update others with our own happenings, and catch up with former classmates and co-workers was hard to resist. However, that rush faded and their participation went from active to passive rather quickly. One observation of the website contends with an image of astonishing happiness than to really form deep relationships. A revelation that sees little middle ground between those who share too much, and others who do not...

...Technological advancements were made throughout the entire twentieth century, starting with the Industrial revolution that swept across the world beginning in the early 1800’s and continuing through the twentieth century. This revolution brought about the introduction of assembly lines making the rate of production for cars sky rocket, the atomic bomb which revolutionized warfare, and the internet. The internet has brought about a change in cultures across the world as well has helped connect individuals in a personal way. The way in which interactions happen between individuals has evolved with social media. In a little over a hundred years the world has gone from having to send a letter on horse and buggy or train, to being able to use computer to access pictures, e-mails, and personal feelings of another individual. Social Media has been rapidly developing since the development of MySpace in 2003. The global phenomenon inspired others such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. In 2010, it was estimated to be more than 2.3 trillion.” Angster, Frank, & Lester(2010). “47% of online adults use social networking sites, and 73% of teens and young adults are a member of at least one social network.” Angster, Frank, & Lester (2010). Electronic means of communication, such as emails, text messaging, and social networking websites, have become a worldwide social phenomenon. Do the stressors in our complicated lives or busy schedules leave us with little time to make a phone call or drop by for a visit? Do such technological advances in our society discourage face to face communication? Are individuals today feeling the pressures more than ever to fit in with their peers? Perhaps low self esteem issues, anxiety, or loneliness contribute to the need to feel loved or popular, such as chatting to a stranger on a dating website, or adding as many “friends” as you can on face book even though you don’t really know them. Or maybe these types of communication really have become a convenient and efficient way of communicating? In this paper I will examine the possible explanations for such a huge reliance on electronic communication, the potential advantages and disadvantages of such communication; including the effects of this communication on behaviour and relationships, as well as how electronic communication compares to face to face communication.
