In today’s society the topic of gun control is a heavily prominent one. Many of the mass shootings that have been initiated in the 21st century have been caused by youthful teenagers and older people who suffer from a mental illness or have diagnoses that are implemented to the cause of their actions and is an excused to why they determine to execute the crime. The 24 year-old man who has the “possibility” of having psychosis that could have been derived from a past case of schizophrenia, a health condition, medication, or drug usage had legally purchased a handgun and shot 11 people in downtown Portland, killing five victims. Lanza showcased symptoms of Aspergers and sensory integration disorder (“difficulty processing and reacting to stimuli”). In a sense the mother had fault, she was aware of her son’s condition, and didn’t seek further help with counselors, therapists, or psychologists. Nancy Lanza thought they didn’t understand her son and weren’t helping the situation. However, if Nancy had also gone through a program herself and gotten herself educated she would have been advised against keeping weapons approachable to her own sons, and how to deal with Adams condition. Having a mental illness won’t always result in the individual committing a crime but in today’s society a person who commits a shooting obviously has a mental illness of some sort, and it could be, many people don’t get diagnosed, but could it also be from the violence portrayed in the media and the video games marketed yearly for males to play that illustrate explicit violent content for mature audiences. Yet, many parents forget to look upon that and don’t supervised their children’s activities. Lanza spent an atroushesly amount of time playing “War of Warcraft,” in police reports they have linked the mass shooting with the video game stating it was as if Lanza thought he was in the game and it was alright to not show empathy and remorse for others. Violent video games vs. nonviolent resulted that violent video games increases the probability of physiological arousal and aggression-related thoughts and feelings. (Hennings, 2018; Crime and Video Games). By passing the bill to not permit mentally ill people from obtaining a weapon the individual is left feeling vulnerable and without power. Having a weapon it secures safety
