In today's society, Christianity weaves together with almost everything the American people do. Religion has shaped many different ways of life, from the way people chose to live, to their cultures, and has certainly shaped America. Religion has been used for control, to teach morals, and to explain unknown mysteries for centuries. One of the major reasons America was established was to have freedom of religion. Unfortunetly, religion is not just about faith anymore, but an excuse for control and manipulation, and discrimination. In Neil deGrasse Tyson's work "The Perimeter of Ignorance", he talks about scientists using God. Many influential scientists throughout history have used God to explain some phenomenon they themselves could not explain at the time. In his work, Tyson states "plenty of scientists besides Newton have called on God-or gods-wherever their comprehension fades to ignorance". Unfortunelty, what they do not realize is how it is holding them back from more knowledge. God simply just became a convenience for them, an excuse when they did not have an answer. Simply look at the debate for the public school systems. Simple requests like including God in the Pledge of Allegiance, allowing kids to pray, and teaching evolution versus teaching the story of God. The control of what is being taught at public schools influence all children at a young age to believe in a specific religion. Because Christianity is the majority, they do not account for all of the people who do not have a God, (such as in Buddhism, the third largest religion in the world) or people calling their God "Allah" (such as Muslims, the second largest religion in the world). People want only their Christian beliefs taught at schools because of the belief that their way is the right way. It is an excuse to institute control from an early age
