...APA Guidelines and Writing Tips General Information on APA Format APA format represents a writing style for most academic papers in a college environment. If students follow this style, they will have a well organized essay which will be constructed to effectively avoid plagiarism. While a lot of students consider this format to be complicated, it involves a lot of basic steps which are easy to understand if they are explained correctly. These steps involve the basic format of the paper, parenthetical citations for source information, and an organized reference page. Basic Format The basic format for APA involves the title page, page numbering, and spacing of the entire essay. The title page itself must include a running head, the title of the essay, the author, and the university where the paper is presented. A sample title page would have information like: Differences Between 1 Running head: DIFFERENCES BETWEEN Differences Between Victims of Domestic Abuse and Victims of Cult Abuse Clara E Gerl Northwestern State University As seen in the title page above, the pages are numbered with a short version of the title before the page number itself. This is placed on the upper right hand side of each page. It is important that the short version of the title is placed on every page number. The spacing of the entire essay deals with the margins and the spaces between the lines of text. All margins in APA format are 1 inch and everything in APA is double spaced....

...What is APA Style? The acronym “APA” stands for “American Psychological Association.” The APA is a professional membership organization, whose members work or have degrees in Psychology. Many years back, some leaders in this organization created a format for papers, so that they would be more readable. Their style caught on with non-psychologists, too. Eventually, APA Style became widely used, especially in colleges and universities. APA Style is a format for writing papers. This format describes proper margins (one inch at the top, bottom, left, and right sides), the font size (12 points), the font types (Times New Roman or Arial fonts only), and the spacing (papers are double-spaced). In addition, there are formats for the title page (see example) and for the list of sources used for a paper (called “citations” or “references” or “reference list”). This handout provides examples, so that you will know what the standards are for papers at the university level. ...the introduction of synchronous virtual training, students could be all over the country or world; sitting in their offices or home to complete training. However, the training is still conducted with all the students attending a class at the same time. Similar to what is used at Ashford University, asynchronous training allows the student to develop new skills on their own timeframe and at their own pace. “The evolution in education and training at a distance can be characterised as a move from dLearning (distance learning) to eLearning (electronic learning) to mLearning (mobile learning).” (Keegan, Desmond 2002) Mobile training or mLearning allows a learner to use a mobile device to access training content, complete training modules or games and collaborate with classmates or peers. mLearning could be completed as a stand-alone, self-study course or as part of a larger curriculum of which mLearning is only a part. Mobile learning is the first stage of using the globalization of the internet use to the “next generation” of learning. ...further complicated by the high attrition rate of the profession. I believe this will be the time that nurses, unified in numbers, can be the most influential. Inevitably, Advanced Practice Nurses, DNPs, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurse Midwives will have to fill in the gaps. Legislation in several states already seeks to extend these professionals' autonomy by allowing them to practice independently of physicians. The leadership roles and education opportunities will increase for nurses, hopefully allowing for increased wages. I do believe, however, since physicians and nurses are the closest providers of patient care, we can influence great change working as a team. In the interest of patient care, neither of these professions can stand alone. With effective collaboration and re-establishing our common purpose, quality of care can be positively impacted. Doctors and nurses can help to keep patient well-being central in spite of economic pressures. Through cooperation from both professions, combined with added insurance benefits for most citizens, we can provide quality health care to those who seek it. References Hackman, Deborah. (2010). ...Diagnostic Deception In the past 10 years, the United States has been experiencing a medical epidemic of frightening proportion, taking place primarily in children. Cases of a psychiatric deficiency known as Attention Deficit Disorder, or “ADD,” have been popping up in young kids and teenagers all over the country. What’s causing this? The American Psychiatric Association, often referred to as the “APA,” claims that the disorder has always been this prevalent, but it was only recently discovered, hence the increasing number of diagnoses, but there seems to be more to this “disorder” than meets the eye. As the number of cases continues to grow, many believe that the number of people with ADD is actually unchanging, and is in fact, zero. While the APA would like you to think otherwise, ADD and ADHD are fictitious disorders. The cause for question in this conversation of the reality of Attention Deficit Disorder has many aspects. Of them, are the facts that ADD and ADHD are only recognized as psychiatric disorders in the United States of America, the suspicious timing of the entrance of these disorders into the APA’s psychiatric journal: the DSM, and the pharmaceutical industry’s role in treatment. These factors, some big, some small, build the often criticized argument against the authenticity of ADD and ADHD as mental disorders. The United States has been home to many unique and wonderful things, but rarely is any one country the sole victim of a disease, let alone one...
