...Nextgen for Airports Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Abstract Rarely in the world of academia does a student get to write a paper on something they are actually interested in. That is exactly what has happened in my case this term. From my days in the United States Air Force I’ve been fascinated by aircraft, aircraft technology, and how the daily operations of the worlds flights are coordinated. Nextgen is the future of aircraft travel technology, and this paper will explain its past, present, and future. What is Nextgen? NextGen stands for Next Generation Air Transportation System. NextGen is a transformative change in the way aircraft flight is managed, and the operations of how we fly. NextGen enhances safety, reduces delays, saves fuel and reduces aviation’s adverse environmental impact. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been in the process of intergrating new and existing technologies for many years now. This is a comprehensive effort to conduct the largest aircraft travel transformation in the history of flight. This transformation includes integrating satellites navigation and super advanced digital communications. Airports and aircraft in the National Airspace System will be connected to NextGen’s advanced infrastructure and will continually share real-time information to provide a better travel experience. (FAA.gov, 2012) NextGen’s astonishing transformation includes six core transformational programs: Collaborative Air Traffic Management...

...Integration of NextGen Technologies Into The National Airspace System By A Research Paper Submitted to the Extended Campus in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements of the Degree of Professional Aeronautics Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Extended Campus Dyess Resident Center February 20, 2010 ABSTRACT Researcher: Title: Integration of NextGen Technologies Into The National Airspace System Institution: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Degree: Professional Aeronautics Year: 2010 Despite the turn in the economy business and leisure travel along with commercial air cargo has remained constant and continues to grow, the only problem is that the National Airspace System (NAS) has not. The NAS in the United States is at capacity that has led to the ongoing problem of delays in departures and arrivals and to mention the safety concern for overcrowded skies and airports. The overhaul of the NAS was over due and with the abundance of technologies available NextGen technologies will ensure that the United States not only has an airspace system that is safe but also is one that is sustainable. The National Airspace System (NAS) as we know it is at capacity and without a plan for upgrade in the near future; this was found out when a study was conducted on the NAS and its capabilities in 2001. The NAS without upgrade or overhaul would continue to operate itself into the ground. With take off and arrival delays continuing to...

...Approaching ILS in NextGen Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Abstract Currently the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the aviation industry are working towards a revolutionary revitalization of how air traffic will be controlled in National Airspace System (NAS) in the future. The goal of the effort behind the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) is to provide for safer and more efficient operations in the NAS. The backbone of this modernization will rely on celestial based systems such as the Global Position System (GPS) to provide the primary source of all navigation information during all phases of flight from taxiing, take-off, enroute, approach, and landing. It is the final two phases of flight, approach and landing, that require the greatest level of precision and continuity, and which will witness the largest change; the eventual elimination of the Instrument Landing System (ILS). Today, ILS offers the most accurate method of safely guiding pilots into a landing in low to almost no visibility conditions. NextGen plans for the elimination of this system in favor of a combination of GPS and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B), and eventually ILS would not even be available for redundancy purposes. For such a critical phase of flight not only is an ILS currently the most accurate system, it should also be available for the foreseeable future to mitigate the lapses in the available GPS and INS technologies. He has more than 2000 flight hours in high performance aircraft including the T-38A/C, F-15E, and various models of the F-16. He is a graduate of USAF Test Pilot School and post-graduate student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. DOD COSTS OF NOT PREPARING FOR NEXTGEN Abstract In order to facilitate a significant overhaul of the civilian National Airspace System (NAS), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has partnered with many federal agencies, such as the departments of Transportation (DOT), Defense (DoD), Homeland Security (DHS), 2 and Commerce (DOC) and the National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA) through a consolidated Joint Planning and Development Office (JPDO) that was established by Congress in 2003 in the VISION 100 – Century of Aviation Reauthorization Act (JPDO, 2012). The JPDO has proposed replacing the old NAS structure of primarily ground-based navigation with robust satellite-enabled air traffic procedures and to supplement ground-based air traffic controller workload with advanced datalink and trajectory-based operations algorithms for de-conflicting aircraft on the ground and in the air....

...NextGen Air Transportation System Christopher Pratt Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Author Note This paper was prepared for ASCI 202 - Introduction to Aeronautical Science, taught by Michael Prince Abstract The Next Generation Air Transportation System, or commonly known as NextGen, will significantly update the national air transportation system. The NextGen system when fully brought online will help better manage the increasingly crowded skies, reduce operating costs, and more importantly, enhance safety. The enhancements to the national air transportations system will consist of 4 elements in addition to GPS. These are ADS-B, NextGen Enabled Weather, NextGen Data Communications, National Airspace Voice Switch. The overall goal of NextGen is to manage our increasingly crowded national airspace with more efficiency, safety, and provide a positive environmental impact while reducing costs. NextGen Air Transportation System The demand for air travel has increase significantly over the last few of decades since deregulation. That demand shows no sign of slowing down despite rising fuel costs and economic uncertainty in the U.S. and Europe (Karp, 2012). Gregory Karp (2012) of the Chicago Tribune stated that the airline industry, which traditionally has run in boom-and-bust cycles, has a good chance to be profitable over the next 20 years as demand for air travel grows worldwide. Price (2007) reports that...

...1. Executive Summary NextGen Fitness will serve North Philadelphia area school age children, helping them to become more productive, while lowering their overall health risk with innovative wellness programs and strategies. Our business is based on two simple facts: 1. Healthy school age children are more productive than chronically ill and overweight children. 2. It costs less to prevent injuries or illnesses than to treat them after they occur. At NextGen Fitness, we tie learning ability and productivity directly to the health care issue. We believe that traditional approaches to the current fitness and health care crisis are misdirected or nonexistent in most urban neighborhoods. These traditional efforts are what we call reactive--that is, they minimally address fitness levels then when illness or injury occurs, public assistance and basic health aide is provided as both solution and treatment. Our approach, which emphasizes prevention and good health promotion, is much more proactive. By helping school age youth change their behavior patterns and choose more healthy and active lifestyles, NextGen will lower parent’s health care expenditures and subsidies provided by healthcare organizations, while raising academic productivity. Health care expenditures will decrease due to reduced medical insurance premiums, reduced risk of obesity, reduced physical injuries and removal from prescription drugs that currently address these issues. 2. Situational Analysis ...

...discussion about who in the organization would be the go-to person, who can answer questions about servers, disaster recovery plans, interfaces, etc (Matthews, 2013). It would be important to find a vendor who can design a customized training program based on the individual needs of the organization. There should be plenty of time for proper training and it should not be rushed, this will cause more confusion and reluctance to learn the program. It would also be valuable to find a vendor that will deliver the initial training program but also have an ongoing training schedule when new upgrades are released. An area to take into account would also be training new-hires to the system. NextGen Healthcare offers classroom and web-based instruction to provide training for the NextGen Ambulatory EHR software (NextGen Healthcare, 2013). NextGen’s website states “Our multiple training options support different schedules and needs. Physicians and staff can attend courses at one of our four state-of-the-art facilities, take self-paced online eLearning, and train virtually by WebEx.” Paragon is an EHR system from McKesson and provides training via on-site, webinars, self-study guides, and web-based training (McKesson, 2013). They also provide product readiness assessments and training plans prior to implementation. McKesson (2013), states that...

...process c) Increase communication between healthcare staff, and with the patient d) Be cost effective, not only in the purchase price but also the price of training and implementation. NextGen Electronic Health Record System Dating back to 2001 when NextGen first started as an electronic health record system, it has been striving, and evolving, to become the best electronic health record system around. Jordan Barrish reports (2014) that as of 2014 NextGen EHR only has about 4,000 clients. That would not be even close to being the biggest EHR provider, or system. However, they do report that they have interoperability between third party systems and Health Information Exchanges (HIE) (NextGen HIE 2015). NextGen does have some great support tools for medical providers and patients alike. For the office, they have a practice management system that can increase productivity, and incoming revenue. A few more examples is that they offer automated health quality reporting, physician quality report system, preventative and disease management services for all patients, meaningful use, and ICD-10. Lastly, they are fully certified by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technologies (CCHIT)( Corporate Fact Sheet 2015). As for pricing, NextGen offers a...

...airplane terminals. As FAA travels through the move of "air traffic" from radar-based to satellite-based, controllers and pilots will have the benefit of progressively modern innovation. While radars oblige air ship to fly over their physical areas on the ground, satellite-innovation will permit controllers to guide airplane in more straightforward courses through the country's airspace. Basically, every controller in the United States will have the capacity to see the careful position of each air ship flying in our airspace, regardless of where in the nation they work. (www.faa.gov, n.d.) Improvement of air traffic control system in the United States This will enhance ATC efficiency, upgrading limit and wellbeing.
