...Reseach Paper Circum-Pacific Belt And Mediternian Belt Group 3: Rena Mae Noserale Karen Joy Umadhay Loreen Sultan Circum-Pacific Belt of Fire The Ring of Fire is an area where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific Ocean. In a 40,000 km (25,000 mi) horseshoe shape, it is associated with a nearly continuous series of oceanic trenches, volcanic arcs, and volcanic belts and/or plate movements. It has 452 volcanoes and is home to over 75% of the world's active and dormant volcanoes. It is sometimes called the circum-Pacific belt or the circum-Pacific seismic belt. About 90% of the world's earthquakes and 81% of the world's largest earthquakes occur along the Ring of Fire. The next most seismically active region (5–6% of earthquakes and 17% of the world's largest earthquakes) is the Alpide belt, which extends from Java to Sumatra through theHimalayas, the Mediterranean, and out into the Atlantic. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is the third most prominent earthquake belt. The Ring of Fire is a direct result of plate tectonics and the movement and collisions of lithospheric plates. The eastern section of the ring is the result of the Nazca Plate and the Cocos Plate being subducted beneath the westward moving South American Plate. The Cocos Plate is being subducted beneath the Caribbean Plate, in Central America. A portion of the Pacific Plate along with the small Juan de Fuca Plate are...

...unconditionally. That is why the most important word in Nikki Giovanni’s poem “Nikki Rosa” is “family”, even though it is found halfway through the poem. Ms. Giovanni uses the poem to talk about a fictional character, whom embodies herself and Rosa Parks, and how when the autobiographers talk about her background it is always about the negative aspects of poverty, and not the positive aspects of having a loving family. Nikki Giovanni starts the poem off talking in a sarcastic way about how “Childhood remembrances are always a drag If your Black,” to show the reader how people will remember a person’s childhood as being horrible, just because of the color of a person’s skin. She then continues on about undesirables like having an outside toilet, or living in the hood, but then directly correlates that with the positivity of her family. She writes, “If you become famous… they never talk about how happy you were to have your mother all to yourself.” At this point in the poem, Ms. Giovanni wants the readers to understand that her viewpoint, and the viewpoints of autobiographers, on a single parent household, are complete opposite. Autobiographers’ view having an uninvolved parent as a harmful impact that can affect a child’s life. On the other hand, Ms. Giovanni sees the good that can come from forming a deep, and personal bond with the involved parent. She then continues on with the theme of family, by talking about her father. Nikki Giovanni shows how important the character’s father...

...in the United States. He and his family came to the country from South Korea when Cho was about eight years old. They eventually settled in Centreville, Virginia, and ran a dry-cleaning business. He was known as a shy child who liked basketball and did well in math. Cho was also bullied by other children, including wealthy members of his church. In high school, Cho was described as sullen and aloof. After graduating in 2003, he went on to study at Virginia Tech University. Located in Blacksburg, Virginia, the school has an extensive campus with more than 26,000 students residing there. Cho stood out as a near-silent loner who wrote gruesome poems, stories, and plays. He sometimes referred to himself as “Question Mark.” One professor, poet Nikki Giovanni, had him removed from her class for disturbing the other students. She told Time magazine that “there was something mean about this boy.” She said that he was “a bully” and always came to class wearing sunglasses and a hat, which she would always ask him to remove. Cho was also photographing the legs and knees of female students in the class. Other members of the English department faculty were concerned about him as well. Lucinda Roy, the co-director of the school’s creative writing program, took him out of class and tutored him individually. She also encouraged Cho to get counseling. In addition to his odd behavior and dark writings, Cho exhibited other potential warning signs. He was twice accused of stalking female students in...

...“We write because we believe the human spirit cannot be tamed and should not be trained”, Nikki Giovanni’s poetry uses figurative language to express her feelings and the tone of the poem. This essay explains how Nikki Giovanni uses figurative language like personification, metaphors, and alliteration to convey the tone. She also uses it to convey events in her lifetime. This paragraph will explain how the author uses personification to convey the tone in her poem “The World is Not a Pleasant Place to Be” she says, “An ocean would never laugh if the clouds weren’t there to kiss her tears.” This evidence shows that the clouds are there for the ocean like people would be there for each other. This paragraph will explain how Nikki Giovanni uses...

...People want what they cannot have. Nikki, the main character in “It Would Be Different If” has an actual obsession when it comes to wanting what she cannot obtain. Nikki has stepped over the line of just wanting Jeff, (her high school crush), and is now at the point of being delusional and obsessive over him. Nikki’s whole life is focused on being with Jeff and it’s making her emotionally unstable as well as selfish. Nikki does not have a healthy state of mind. For example, when Nikki is imagining Jeff coming into her salon and having her cut his hair, Nikki imagines keeping the trimmings of Jeff’s hair to comfort her until he finally leaves his wife, Amber, and their child. It might be normal for people to daydream about their crush, however, it is absolutely crazy to have a daydream where one would keep the hair trimmings after their loved one had a haircut. Another moment where the reader can question Nikki’s emotional stability is when she states, “I wasn’t supposed to be one of those people, the unmarryable ones” (170). Nikki then goes on to explain a very detailed story of how her and Jeff were supposed to be married with a small dog, a beagle, and what they would look like in old age, etc. Any person with common sense would know...

He’s strong, confident and romantic. After being in dangerous situations he managed to get his life back in order. 9. The story takes place in Fairfield, Illinois. 10. My favorite part is in the second to last chapter when Luis, Carlos, and Alex are standing there wondering who shot Chuy and they find out that it was Nikki. This was my favorite part because it shows that Nikki would do anything to help Luis and because none of the boys were expecting Nikki to be the one...

Once I started school, they started teaching us how to read and write. I did not think my teacher was smart, not even a little bit. That Mrs. Nolen didn’t know anything. The only person I would let teach me was my big cousin, Nikki. She was in high school at the time. My mom had her come over and work with me after school. I thought Nikki was the smartest girl in the whole wide world. She would show me how to write the letters and then teach me what sound they made. I started to get frustrated because I just couldn’t get the hang of it. But one day, Nikki was sitting in a chair in the living room and I was flipping through the pages of a book. I was mostly looking at the pictures but I was squinting my eyes and trying my best to try and read. Suddenly, I sounded out the word bird. Nikki thought there was a bird on the page so I was just Pearson 2 saying what I saw, but when she looked there was no bird. I had read the word bird! I was so excited and couldn’t wait to start reading more. Nikki would bring her high school textbooks and her books she was assigned to read and I couldn’t help but think of how cool it would be to read one of...

...years of Rock music there have been some rock star’s to change the face of Rock as we know it. Although, I love many of the people that changed rock’n’Roll, Nikki Sixx is the greatest because he had the worst addictions and while in the midst of them, he created liberating music and made everyone else’s life a living hell; including his own. You are considered a Classic Rock group if you made it big time during the 70’s and 80’s. Classic Rock is so amazing and the most amazing thing about it is that this generation wasn’t there to see it so we get to use our...

Pictures of overseas travel, small business, family, hippy art installations, orphanages I one day wish to donate my time, and overly artistic shots of coffee. Upon reflection of this collection, all of these images represent the end goal and have little to do with the work done in the interim. ‘How very Generation Y of me’, I thought. ...Eclipse Alarcon Cunningham ENG 102 2/12/2024 Rhetorical Analysis. On February 7, 2024, Nikki Haley, a South Carolina governor who is running as a presidential candidate for the Republican party, said this on Fox News, "America has never been a racist country." She speaks on behalf of people who wish to minimize the racism ingrained in this country's foundation. The discourse about racism and America's history of systemic discrimination is being flat-out ignored by current politicians, pulling the wool over the public's eyes. The incident was captured in a political cartoon by Adam Zyglis on January 19, 2024; people in denial is an evident exaggeration of the hypocrisy of the Republican party through irony and satire as well as symbolism, dimensioning...

...Sweet Dreams By: Nikki Schott, Autumn Holzinger and Korina Stelzenmueller Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is when a seemingly healthy infant, usually less than a year old, suddenly die to an unknown cause. However, there are some physical and sleep factors that can make an infant more likely to get SIDS. One of the main physical factors are brain defects, which happened when the part of the brain that tells the body to breath has not fully functioned properly. Additionally, the weight of the infant at birth is a very important cause of SIDS, since a premature baby’s body and brain has not fully developed. Moreover, the way an infant sleeps also can cause SIDS. For example, if an infant sleeps on his stomach, instead his back, he or she...
