This past April I found myself in a situation which tested my faith. During this period I began to have much self-doubt in my abilities. However in the end I had faith and something unexpected occurred which is the reason that I now believe whatever the circumstances may be you should never give up on your goals. Last school year, my sophomore year, was my first year in the South Kitsap High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Battalion (NJROTC). In the beginning of the year I realized that NJROTC was something which I was quite good at. When it was brought to my attention by my Platoon Commander that we would be receiving what we called Dream Sheets where we wrote down our top five choices for NJROTC staff positions throughout the rest of our high school career I immediately decided that I wanted to be a Platoon Commander and was prepared to do anything it took to become…show more content… I volunteered for every community service opportunity I could squeeze into my schedule. If it was a community service project where were only required to stay for one of many shifts I chose to stay for every shift until the event was over. Every order which I was given I executed immediately with as few questions as possible and I executed them well. As well whenever I found myself at home with nothing to do I would practice drilling and study my knowledge until it was memorized word for word. I was eventually asked by my Platoon Commander to be First Squad Leader for my platoon which was a great responsibility. If that wasn’t enough I was even put in charge of the weekly PT (Physical Training) for my platoon. Towards the end of second semester in April my Platoon Commander and as the highest ranking cadet, a Cadet Petty Officer Third Class, I was placed in command of my platoon for the remainder of the year a task which I handled quite well and with much
