...to inspire the motion picture industry. Some men who noticed the potential in cinema were the Warner Brothers. Albert, Jack, Harry and Sam Wonskolaser were born in Poland to Jewish parents and immigrated to the United States in 1888 while changing their last name to Warner. The brothers were fascinated with the nickelodeon business and purchased the Cascade Theater in 1905 (Warner & Jennings 1965). The theater turned out to be a wise purchase as it became very successful in terms of profit and even helped them buy other theaters (Bob Thomas, 1990). The success did not last long as the Thomas Edison´s Motion Picture Patents Company charged high fees for the showing of films in theaters (Warner & Jennings 1965). The patent caused the Warner bros to sell their theaters and focus solely on the making of films and distributing (Cass Warner Sperling, 2008). The company grew to become one of the biggest and most influential motion picture studios in the world. 2.2 Introduction to theme A leader possesses multiple attributes either when dealing with a multinational company or a small managing company however there is one characteristic which described...

Bro In The Accused Movie

...The other film viewed in class, The Accused, exhibits that often in the world of rape cases, that the victims themselves are viewed as suspects within their own cases. That more often than not, these cases play into the man’s point of view, and need a man’s point of view to validate the victims side of the case. The film centers around a woman named Sarah Tobias who isn’t what most would call a model citizen. In fact, she plays into the role of Kimmel’s “bro”. Kimmel describes a “bro” as the following: “Another way for a girl to avoid being either a babe or a bitch is to become a “bro”. These girls prove their mettle in Guyland through shrinking such “feminine” traits as intimacy, loyalty and openness and appropriating guys’ behavior: sports,...

Hey Bros

...Howard Zinn once said “Anyone reading history should understand from the start that there is no such thing as impartial history”. This means that to understand the full cause and impact of any historical event, one must also understand the historical background surrounding it from all parties involved and that in all history bias is unavoidable. Not tracing wars and conflicts from where they stem, can lead to a completely altered view as compared to being aware of all events to leading up to the battles. I agree with Zinn’s quote, “Anyone reading history should understand from the start that there is no such thing as impartial history” as it can be supported by many circumstances. Upon reading “A People’s History to The United States”, the Native American’s distrust and raids against the western colonies seem unprovoked and barbaric, yet knowing the incidents that occurred between Columbus, his crew and the natives can completely change how one would look at the situation. Columbus was responsible for eradicating the Arawak civilization by overworking them in the gold mines, exposing them to western disease and bringing them back to Europe to sell into slavery. Taking this into consideration the native’s actions towards the Europeans seems to be in retaliation and an attempt of prevention, not an act of savagery. Throughout “A People’s History to the United States” Zinn tries to provide both sides of each historical event, giving the best attempt of recording an “impartial...

Bros Before Hos

...“Bros before Hos” Kimmel exposes many believes in which society tries to establish how boys have to behave during their childhood and youth to prove that they are masculine during their adult life’s in his “Bros Before Hos” article. He states that boys have been raised to abide by certain codes, for example, “Boys don’t cry” or “Taking it like a man” to be fully functional male adults. He also states that when men try to deter from the “code” they are automatically labeled as weak or turning their backs on their own kind. Although I agree with many of the points he makes, I will have to disagree when he implies that not much has changed in the aspect of men standing up for themselves or being themselves in fear of being out casted. I do agree 100% with his opinion when he states that the weak men need to speak up because that is the only way the male aggressors will stop being bullies and society would be a better place as a whole because as long as the silence remains unbroken nothing will ever change. Way before a boy is born they are already being molded to be men. As early as being in their mothers’ womb males are being taught to be masculine. Fathers are dreaming of their boys being athletes’ way before they are born. Baby showers don’t have hints of pink, instead, it is filled with blue and anything “male” related because pink represent femininity and weakness. Personally, I can’t comprehend why society choses blue to be the male dominant color. I would have gone...

...Clarize Mascarinas Ms. Molino ENG2D1-01 17-11-2015 The Pursuit of Truth and Justice: Atticus Finch and Malala Yousafzai In a country like Canada, the government and its people have little to no qualms treating others without prejudice and bias. However, this behaviour has still yet to apply to most places of the world. Activists are found among these people who hunger for righteousness and equality. Atticus Finch from the novel To Kill a Mockingbird is a character who is eager to change Maycomb’s views on people. Comparably, in the real world, Malala Yousafzai is an active advocate who wants to give females the privileges they are born to have. Both Atticus and Malala are people who pursue truth and justice by being non-violent, fighting for the oppressed, and by accepting the outcomes of their actions. Both Atticus and Malala are people who pursue truth and justice by not opting for violence. As Atticus leaves the post office after the trial, Bob Ewell approaches him, spits on his face, and threatens to kill him. According to Miss Stephanie, “… Atticus didn’t bat an eye, just took out his handkerchief and wiped his face and stood there and let Mr. Ewell call him names.” (Lee 291) Most people, when being taunted or threatened, will lose their temper and may commit violent acts. By being a pursuer of truth and justice, Atticus recognises that being barbaric is not the way to solve problems. Likewise, Malala believed that fighting others...

The Dark Knight made brilliant use of online and offline content to bring fans of the movie together before it released. The target audience for this movie was very broad. There were Batman fans, Christopher Nolan fans, and fans of the franchise. So the producers didn’t really need to hard sell the movie. The audience was teeming with anticipation already. The campaign was to generate interest, get talk going, and involve the fans into the Batman universe to provide a more enriching movie experience. This film had has one of the most elaborate marketing strategies to date. The campaign was launched 15 months prior to the release of the film and witnessed participation from millions from across the world. Warner Bros made use of all kinds of media and without the use of convergence, as we spoke about in class, this strategy would not have been as successful. Torts Report

...Peter Lightfoot BMGT 380 REPORT A. Facts presented in the article: Time Warner Inc. won a temporary court order blocking a small production company , Global Asylum Inc., from releasing a straight-to-DVD film titled "Age of the Hobbits" four days before the theatrical release of Warner Bros. Pictures' $200 million movie "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.” In early November, Warner Bros., along with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. and Saul Zaentz Co., which own the movie rights to J.R.R. Tolkien's novels "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings," sued Asylum for trademark infringement and false advertising, among other complaints. Global Asylum argued that the hobbits referred to in their film were a human sub-species with the Latin name Homo Floresiensis that scientists had nicknamed hobbits. The court found, however, that Asylum's argument didn't hold up, since the subspecies was named with Tolkien's characters in mind. The company was ordered Monday by a U.S. District Court judge in Los Angeles to refrain from advertising, selling or distributing "Age of the Hobbits." B. Authors’ point of view on the subject matter covered in the article: The ruling casts a spotlight on "mockbusters" or knockoff films that are typically distributed as straight-to-home-videos released to coincide with the major releases they mimic. Such movies have become a cottage industry among a handful of production houses looking to catch the crumbs of the entertainment giants' marketing campaigns. The...
