Guns…show more content… Sarah, who was very upset at the deaths of her husband and daughter, talked to a spiritualist or a medium, some call them today (Charles River Editors). This medium informed Sarah that the victims who were killed by the Winchester rifles that her family manufactured were seeking revenge by taking the lives of her family. The medium also told Sarah that the spirits had put a curse on her and that if she wanted to live, she had to move out west and constantly, without stopping, build a house for them night and day (Charles River Editors). It was not until Sarah Winchester died at the age of 85 in September 1922 that the work on her bizarre, multi-gabled house finally stopped. All she had built was estimated to cost five million dollars (Charles River Editors). According to the United States Dept. of the Interior, construction of the Winchester House began in 1884. With so much access to timber or lumber just in San Jose, Mrs. Winchester was free to try out what was of interest to her and her architectural ideas (Charles Riverr Editors).
