.... Chutney music is sung by our own locals and most of the songs are based on either alcohol or women or alcohol and women, making a comparison between both. Soca music is more upbeat and is very stimulating for movement which is what makes it so prominent in parties and fetes. Basically, Soca music focuses on the body and dancing with partners in a very vulgar like way. In relation to Chutney music, women are seen as controlling and nagging and just bad. Drawing from the music men seem to believe that women should be at home and engage in activities such as cooking, cleaning or simply awaiting the man patiently. They hardly believe that women should be drinking alcohol or partying much. Through the music men are more seen as the outgoing ones who don't need women. In many various songs by different artists it is dominant that after men get married or in a relationship they begin to actually regret getting involved with a girl and they show that they have preference for alcohol and 'liming' (which is doing out going things such as being around other male friends). In general, this type of music is dominant - In Trinidad and Tobago you would hear cars driving in the road and playing these songs loudly and when taking to friends they quote lyrics from the songs. Even around girls, the males who engage in listening to these songs would actually tell girls things such as ' I go be single forever' or ' Women like to complain too much' or 'Women are too difficult'.
