...LIFE OF A SOLDIER I was in the Army for 10 years. I have been to a lot of places. I went to Basic training at Fort Leonardwood MO. My first duty station was Fort Carson Co. Second duty station was Fort Drum NY, while there I was sent to Bosnia. Third was Camp Howze Korea. Last duty station was Fort Carson CO. I arrived at Fort leonardwood also known as fort lost in the woods because it is in the middle of nowhere in August of 1993 for Basic Training and AIT. I would be here for a total of 13 weeks. Basic training is 8 weeks which feel much longer! This is where you learn basic skills, marching in formation, Basic Marksmanship, Basic Combat operations and most of all Physical training. I also was here for my AIT which is advanced individual Training which is your MOS or job. My MOS was 12B Combat Engineer. We were taught all the things that would need to know at a basic skill level. Which included construction of a fighting position, how to emplace a mine field, construct wire obstacles and most of all how the use explosives. While learning all this we would get little to no sleep. Gets up at 5:00 am and go to sleep around 12:00am. My first duty station Fort Carson Co 4th Engineer Battalion. Life was a lot different it was kind of like a regular job. The day would start out with Physical training from 6am till 7am. First formation or work formation was at 9:30 this is where you found out what had to be done for the day. Most of the days we would be in our motor pool this...

...voltage ratios are multiplied with an additional advantage of isolation. When driving for example a plasma lamp or a voltage multiplier the rectifying diode of the boost converter is left out and the device is called a flyback transformer. lesson is limited to the study of fly-back circuit of single switch topology. II. Basic Topology of Fly-Back Converter I. Introduction Fly-back converter is the most commonly used SMPS circuit for low output power applications where the output voltage needs to be isolated from the input main supply. The output power of fly-back type SMPS circuits may vary from few watts to less than 100 watts. The overall circuit topology of this converter is considerably simpler than other SMPS circuits. Input to the circuit is generally unregulated dc voltage obtained by rectifying the utility ac voltage followed by a simple capacitor filter. The circuit can offer single or multiple isolated output voltages and can operate over wide range of input voltage variation. In respect of energy-efficiency, flyback power supplies are inferior to many other SMPS circuits but its simple topology and low cost makes it popular in low output power range. The commonly used fly-back converter requires a single controllable switch like, MOSFET and the usual switching frequency is in the range of 100 kHz. A two-switch topology exists that offers better energy efficiency and less voltage stress across the switches but costs more and the circuit...

...which is to achieve long term competitive leverage but with each initiative having a different focus to attain that goal. The following are the strategic initiatives: EFFICIENT CONSUMER RESPONSE (ECR) ECR dates from as far back as the early 1990s when it was started; it was mainly designed to have an efficient response to the demand of consumers for grocery products. The main focus of improvement for ECR is on demand, supply, enabling technology and integration. All the parties involved in the supply chain follow the ECR initiative to analyze the market so as to understand the consumer demands and eventually come up with the most effective way to respond to these demands. Furthermore, the supply management monitor stocks and work at coming up with the most responsive method of replenishment. JIT/LEAN SYSTEM JIT was originally called Toyota Production System and it is associated with Japanese management techniques. JIT aims at eliminating waste by brining a product when is needed to satisfy a need. With JIT organizations aim at keeping little or no inventory except for what is required to satisfy a need. Lean is a westernized version of JIT as it aims at measuring and reducing inventory and streamlining production. AGILE OPERATIONS Agile operations are concerned with responding to the uncertainties in the market. Globolisation has brought about a lot of competition as a result consumer needs are ever changing and product lifecycles are shortened due to daily invention...

...autopilot controls the aircraft about the longitudinal, lateral, and vertical axes. Three different servos actuate ailerons, elevator, and rudder. More advanced systems often include a vertical speed and/or indicated airspeed hold mode. Advanced autopilot systems are coupled to navigational aids through a flight director. The autopilot system also incorporates a disconnect safety feature to disengage the system automatically or manually. These autopilots work with inertial navigation systems, global positioning systems (GPS), and flight computers to control the aircraft. In fly-by-wire systems, the autopilot is an integrated component. Additionally, autopilots can be manually overridden. Because autopilot systems differ widely in their operation, refer to the autopilot operating instructions in the Airplane Flight Manual or the Pilot’s Operating Handbook. PURPOSE i. Autopilot reduces the fatigue of the crew on long flights by taking over the routine flight control of the aircraft at any time. ii. A single-axis autopilot manages just one set of controls, usually the ailerons. This simple type of autopilot is known as a "wing leveler"...

...programming assignment was really enjoyable. I enjoyed writing code for the basic calculator. In total, I spent approximately three and a half hours working on it. I probably spent more time making adjustments than writing the actual code. Defining the functions was pretty straightforward, so I did not run into any trouble while working on that part. After calling and testing the newly defined functions a few times, I was able to make them work as planned. The provided pseudo code helps a lot in terms guiding me through the assignment from the beginning to the end. However, I started running into some problems when I was trying to figure out how to use a conditional function to check whether the first and second are equal to zero so that the program would go back one step in the case that the user enter zero as an input....

...EBTM 311 Professor Taylor February 3rd, 2012 Homework 1 1. How does e-Business differ from e-Commerce? Give a definition for e-Commerce and examples to explain the differences. E-Business is the conduct of transactions by means of electronic communications networks (e.g., via the Internet and/or possibly private networks) end-to-end. E-Commerce is a part of e-Business, which has to do with the buying and selling of goods and services, and the transfer of funds through digital communications. E-Business is different from e-Commerce because it deals with digital transactions and processes within a firm, involving information systems under the firm’s control. E-Business does not just refer to information exchanges related to buying and selling, but it also has to do with servicing customers and collaborating with business partners, distributors and suppliers. Another way e-Business is different from e-Commerce is that e-Business encompasses sophisticated business-to-business interactions and collaboration activities at a level of enterprise applications and business processes. E-Commerce is different from e-Business because it mainly deals with just the buying and selling, whereas e-Business deals with more than just buying and selling. Also, e-Commerce primarily deals with on-line display of goods and services, ordering, billing, customer service and handling of payments and transaction. One final difference between e-Business and e-Commerce is that e-Business...

...business strategies to achieve competitive advantage over each other but the basic infrastructure and activities among the companies were similar. Here Federal Express is the market leader which covered 45% of the domestic express mail and UPS took second place and covered 25% share .Federal Express and UPS always tried to copy each other’s action and when a competitor came up with a formula that attracted the attention of potential customers, the other were compelled to follow suit with similar services, or better yet, an improved version .On the other hand Airborne Express is the third largest and fastest growing international mail expresses company in America. It held roughly 16% of the domestic express mail market by 1997. The company has several advantages over its rivals, such as it provides delivery services at a lower cost of up to 20% over FedEx and UPS; it operates the nation’s only privately owned foreign trade zone in Wilmington; it is more flexible and provides more customer-tailored services. It charges lower price but still much guarantee delivery dates .In case of adapting or installing any technology Airborne competitive behavior was response and when there was a clear derived benefit for their customer that time they adapt new technology. Airborne chose to be being selective in case of targeting the customer and they selected to serve the business customer. In case of international operation Airborne did not invest heavily like Federal Express and UPS. They invested...

...The Accounting Errors of Overstock.com In 2008, the companyOverstock.com (NASDAQ: OSTK) received some publicity when they made decisions that violate the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Their internal accounting policies and their relationship with external auditors caused the company to have to restate their financial statements dating back to 2003. Overstock.com improperly took income that it earned but under-billed its fulfillment partners during earlier reporting periods (Q3 2008 and earlier) and moved the income to future reporting periods (Q4 2008, Q1 2009, Q2 2009, and Q3 2009). Basically, Overstock.com took the income that they should have reported in earlier reporting periods (Q3 2008 and before) and moved it to future reporting periods (Q4 2008 and later). This action materially overstated their financial performance in later reporting periods. “Overstock.com admitted that they “incorrectly amortized the expense related to restricted stock units based on the actual three year vesting schedule rather than a three year straight line amortization and applied an outdated forfeiture rate in calculating its expense under the plans.” Accounting errors are not unusual for a business. When an accounting error occurs that is at the level of the error of Overstock.com, it is an indication that involves some high-level company officials may be involved. The responsibility of the accounting department is to provide managers and investors with the...

...The Basic ABCs of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MISS) is neither new nor experimental. Advanced technology provides surgeons with the tools to alleviate the debilitating neck and back pain felt by their patients. The main reasons that people have MISS are to either stabilize an unusual or abnormal movement within the spine or to decompress some spinal cord or pinched nerve pain and pressure. MISS successfully treats a number of spinal disorders while offering several advantages over traditional open surgery. With MISS there is little scarring, less post-operative discomfort and pain, lower risk of post-operative infections, less muscle and tendon damage, and a quicker recovery time. Depending on the reason for the operation, most MISS patients are able to resume their normal daily activities within a few weeks. Some patients will need physical therapy to regain their spinal strength while other patients may require less movement...

...fundamentals consist of the four basic functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. The various tasks and activities related to each function of management differ according to the specific framework in which management is practiced. These four basic functions remain as important as ever, and they still offer the fundamentals that are required in any small business, corporations, or government agency (Bateman & Snell, 2009). Planning is the foundation on which the other three functions of management are built upon. Managers employ this method to plan for the future so they can anticipate problems by deciding on what events to avoid. Therefore, effective planning can be the difference in a successful and unsuccessful manager. When planning a manager needs to take logical steps in think through what needs to be accomplished to achieve the organizations goals. In the military planning for deployment and redeployments is a conscientiousness responsibility of every commander at each level. Their main goal is to bring back every soldier who has deployed with them. Then the commander reviews the mission statement to see what resources are needed to bring to the fight. After that, the commander reviews the movement plan from the United States to theater making sure sustainment resource are available for the troops during their move and once they arrive at their specific destination. Then to sustainment and prolong operations until successful mission...
