What is an organization? According to Kinicki and Kreitner it is a system of consciously coordinated activities or forces of two or more persons. My company is a loose organization without rules, broadly defined tasks, and informal communication. Our parent company is in the United Kingdom and the way they do business versus the way business is done here in the States is very different. We recently moved into a newly established office and the change has been difficult at times. The idea was that with a regional office that there would be less “siloing” and more communication between the employees. While this has happened on some level there is also much consternation for the established employees in that they are expected to be in the office two days a week at a minimum. Thursdays have been designated as “Team Thursday” and everyone is expected to be in the office if they are not at a client site or meeting. The idea is that we have a large enough group of employees within the local area that having an office for company meetings, client visits, training or other needs makes sense. The COO and HR Director were the ones that chose the location and office space. It is convenient that the new office is within four miles of their current homes. There has been resistance to the new office rules. Recently a strong email was sent out from the COO about the number of days in the office, arrival times and cautioning against making personal appointments for Doctor visits, etc. on Thursday. It has become normal for some of the team to make their personal appointments on the team day so they could either arrive late or leave early. Other members of the team were making comments and beginning to do the same thing. The positive aspect of having this office is that we can now have

This being said, it would also be pertinent to add that Organizational Behavior is a very vast subject and it would almost be impossible to cover it extensively in one semester. Therefore, the purpose of this course is to give you a basic understanding of the field and to provide you with basic...

...#2 you were asked to produce a detailed annotated bibliography that offered more substantiation for the claim you made about a central organizational issue in the first assignment. This annotated bibliography afforded you some substantiation from the scholarly community and from research studies that support your claim. For the Mid-Term assignment you are to write a detailed research paper expanding on both the two homework assignments. This is to say that the topic you have identified and substantiated in your annotated bibliography should now be developed in a more exhaustive analysis of the problem or issue as it applies to organizational behavior and development. This paper should be no more than fifteen pages long (exclusive of the title page and references page) and should represent a more in depth library research analysis beyond the annotated bibliography. Finally, this research paper will be the foundational organizing factor that will support your final assignment the Workforce 2020 paper where you will expand the theme and topic to include the elements of the requirements of that final individual paper. Please note that the Workforce 2020 paper must be original and not just a reiteration of the mid-term paper since the Workforce 2020 paper asks for your consideration of the theme or topic in relationship to other organizational...

...Syllabus Organizational Behavior Summer 2013 – 37:575:345:T2 Course Instructor Amir H Maleki ah.maleki@rutgers.edu Description The field of organizational behavior (OB) is about understanding how people and groups in organizations behave, react, and interpret events. It also describes the role of organizational systems, structures, and processes in shaping behavior, and explains how organizations really work. Drawing from fields including management, anthropology, sociology, information technology, ethics, economics, and psychology, OB provides a foundation for the effective management of people in organizations. Because it explains how organizations work from individual motivation to team dynamics to organizational structure, knowing about OB is essential to being effective at all organizational levels. Because an organization’s people are responsible for gaining and keeping a competitive advantage, understanding how to mobilize and motivate employees is critical to organizational performance. Businesses excel when employees understand how their behaviors influence an organization’s performance and enable strategy execution, and when they are led effectively and are motivated to do their best. Competitors can often copy a firm’s technologies, products, processes, and structures, but it is difficult to duplicate a core of talented, knowledgeable, motivated employees who work together to achieve the firm’s goals and who care about their firm’s success. Understanding and practicing...
