...engineer in the company and no one is qualified to evaluate his performance in the company. The manager this time has opted for 360 degree performance evaluation system, and so far has evaluated his attitude with co-workers, his attitude to managers when they communicate, friendliness and neatness of workplace. Despite his extraordinary performance he has received very poor remarks in every field. This paper in this connection, will recommend three main concerns that manager should consider while evaluating the performance of engineer. The point of concern in the current evaluation form of this company includes: 1. Friendliness: A performance evaluation form should consider factor like how a person perform in team rather than his friendliness, because nature of different individual varies, and it is a fact that there are people in the world who do not prefer to be social at their workplace, and a probability is there that the engineer falls in this type of people. 2. Neatness: As the case clearly depicts that the engineer is performing extraordinarily on every task, which means that he is workaholic and keep all his focus and energy on his task instead of taking care about the neatness. Secondly, it is the responsibility of the organization to keep the environment clean and a person should be...

...categories on the company’s current evaluation form: friendliness, neatness, and attitude. Friendliness This evaluation criteria focuses on the interpersonal relationships of the employee as he relates to his fellow co-workers including peers and supervisor(s). However, because of the employee’s personality differences, the employee receives a lower rating. The ability to have an accord with fellow co-workers is an important part of an employee review, especially if his ability to work with others negatively affects his or their output. However, interpersonal relationships in general should not be the primary focus of the review. The ability or desire of the employee to interact with other employees is not a valid representation of his work ethic or work product and is not indicative of the employee’s ability to help the company accomplish its ultimate mission and goals. Neatness The second item on the manager’s evaluation form is “Neatness.” The manager concludes that the employee’s neatness with relationship to his office space is only slightly better than a disaster area so, again, he gives the employee a low score. However, no mention is made of the employee’s work product. The manager needs to evaluate the employee’s neatness with respect to his work product. Are completed reports neat, logical and professional? Have tasks been completed on-schedule, efficiently and accurately? Physical neatness of any individual employee should be evaluated and/or corrected...

...Weighted Rank Correlation measures in Hierarchical Cluster Analysis Livia Dancelli, Marica Manisera, and Marika Vezzoli Abstract When the aim is to group rankings, matching-type measures must be used in cluster analysis techniques. Among these, rank-based correlation coefficients, as the Spearman’s ρ , can be considered. To this regard, we think that Weighted Rank Correlation measures are remarkably useful, since they evaluate the agreement between two rankings emphasizing the concordance on top ranks. In this paper, we employ an appropriate Weighted Rank Correlation measure to evaluate the dissimilarity between rankings in a hierarchical cluster analysis, in order to segment subjects expressing their preferences by rankings. An illustrative example on selected rankings shows that the resulting groups contain subjects whose preferences are more similar on the most important ranks. The procedure is then applied to real data from an extensive 2011 survey carried out in the Italian McDonald’s restaurants. Key words: rank-based correlation coefficients, matching-type measures, hierarchical cluster analysis 1 Introduction Cluster analysis aims at identifying groups of individuals or objects that are similar to each other but are different from individuals in other groups (among others, [4]). This is useful, for example, in market segmentation studies, also when consumers’ preferences are expressed by grades, leading to rankings of products or services provided by individuals...

...Granted, neat people do have a different approach to tackling daily tasks from that of sloppy people. However, it does not make one any more “lazier” or any less meticulous than than the other. Suzanne persuades her readers to believe that sloppy people are better than neat people. However, it can be equally argued that sloppy people live in disorder, and neat people live on habitual order. Neat people pay attention to detail more than anything. Suzanne Britt states that neat people do not care about the process but instead the solution. However, for neat people, the beauty or emotional value of maintaining their order, makes it worthwhile to dedicate time and attention towards maintaining it. Those who appreciate order and neatness, see the process as an essential part of dealing with the complexities of the world. A result is never satisfying unless it is the desired result, making the process that Walsh 2 much more important. The process determines the solution, which implies that if neat people care about the solution then they must care about the process. Neat people do not necessarily throw away anything with dust on it.They pay attention to its purpose and organise accordingly. This process allows them to access it when needed. Everything is a process for neat people thus the belief that they only care about the result is a fallacy. Sloppy people on the other hand, could care less about detail. Suzanne Britt state that “someday” is sloppy people’s...

... In this particular case, there are three primary flaws with the current evaluation method. First of all, the evaluation has no credibility among the people that it is evaluating. The engineer in question believes that the evaluation is flawed and that he will not receive a fair evaluation no matter what. Due to past experiences with the company, the engineer has decided to skip the evaluation process, meaning that he also questions the legitimacy of the evaluation and that he will probably not accept any recommendations that are made. Additionally, the evaluation uses criteria that are not easily measurable and that depend far too much on the discretion of the evaluators. The criteria used in the evaluation include things such as neatness and friendliness, subjective qualities that are impossible to measure with any kind of accuracy. By not having quantitative fields on the evaluation, the company is making it difficult to form any conclusions from the data, and the company is making it impossible to compare the performance of various workers against each other. Finally, the evaluation does not mention...

...In images, the foundation that upholds the value or meaning of the image is how effectively can the photographer convey to viewers what he/she wanted to communicate or portray through the image. It is what emotions and feelings can be evoked through the moment or event the photographer is trying to capture, or in this scenario what story the photographer wanted to capture. At first glance only the man stands out in the photograph, and the he rest of the picture is then noticed. However, upon analyzing the picture more in depth, it is noted how neat and organized his desk is, and how many plaques and awards he has on the wall. Also coming from a computer savvy and technology-inclined perspective, the man’s double-monitor computer set-up can be accounted for as well. It can be understood that these background items are more then just scenery, but rather context clues. They’re context clues in the sense that they tell us about the individual in the photograph, and they give us a lot of information about him and what he may possibly do. Without these context clues, it would be extremely difficult to formulate any opinions as to who the man in the photograph is or what he does. However with them, we can develop an idea as to who the man is and what he does. A wise man once told me that you could tell a lot about a person by what he/she keep on his/her desk and how his/her office looks. In this photograph a man sits at his very detailed and organized desk with awards hanging on the...

...at a manufacturing plant received a poor review and reacted even more poorly to the results. He is now to be evaluated again but the current evaluation methods seem inadequate. The plant manager has reviewed and learned about the 360-degree evaluation method and wonders if it might be a better solution than the current method. There are other evaluation methods that should be considered and revised before evaluating any employee. A combination of methods will probably work best. The engineer is currently evaluated based on friendliness, neatness of workspace and attitude. The first point of concern is that attitude and friendliness are the same thing or at least very closely related. Another concern is that neatness of workspace is not a quantifiable objective; it cannot be easily measured. The engineer frequently has stacks of paper and a cluttered desk but this could be because of the workload placed upon him. Neatness is not a measure of the engineer’s work requirements. The biggest concern with the current evaluation method is that the engineer’s quality and quantity of work is not considered in his performance. While those other “soft skills” are important to have, they are not the true measure of a man and need to be supplemented,...

...PART I . INTRODUCTION The article Lean Times Call for a Lean work place was written by Pamela Golamco in the MercatorNet Newsletter dated 25 November 2008.Her articles are based on workplace situations. Pamela Golamco is a sales coordinator of a Lean workplace. She writes about her piece on the Lean syytem from her office in Sydney, Australia. In her article, she mentions that by being more systematic and organized while creating an efficient system at work could lead to a higher productivity and consequently creating satisfied customers as well as quality products. PART II. SUMMARY Most of us battle with a cluttered wardrobe and end up wearing the same outfit and hoping that it would not be noticed. Subsequently, we end up not keeping up with a resolution to be more orderly. In a similar manner, this lack of order is equally applicable to the workplace. Many times we let things go and allow chaos to ensue. This results in hours of productivity lost, non-standard and low quality products and services and eventually creating dissatisfied customers. Most companies ship these complaints off shore. Hence, a lot of time is spent solving problems at work rather than focusing on improvement. Domestic chaos has led to the new profession of decluttering and it has now become a basic principle of life for some people. This movement involves the elimination any unnecessary or wasted resources. The business world has now its own custom made solution to clogged and inefficient...
