The flatter organizational structure coupled by job insecurity among workers and particularly new one find it difficult to adjust to the new changes. The newly promoted staffs are also finding it difficult to adjust to the progress and develop quickly as they gain new skills and responsibility. Coaching is one of the best strategies that can be used to help these workers to be more adaptable and increase their flexibility. Coaches can use different learning styles to support a range of employee who need specialized skills in order to increase their performance. Since individual needs are highly diverse, a one size fit for all is obviously inappropriate. Thus, organization needs to develop new strategies that support the organization to tailor individual needs (Ellinger, Ellinger & Keller, 2013). Coaching can be used by managers to provide a flexible responsive development approach which can support many workers with diverse needs compare to traditional form of training...

...Practices in Retention Strayer University HRM534, Employment and Labor Relations 1/23/2011 What three problems might an organization have with the issue of employee retention? Explain why they could be problems. When an organization loses employees, they also lose skills, experience and corporate memory. The magnitude and nature of these losses can be critical problems for and organization. It is no doubt that over the years, the employment relationship has undergone a number of changes that impact attraction, motivation and retention of talented employees. This has brought to the forefront the need to understand the individual/organizational relationship, namely the psychological contract. This is the employee’s interpretations and evaluation of their deal with the organization (Dietz, 2009). Past research has shown that in order for retention management to be effective, the employee’s and the organization’s expectation must be in line. Also job satisfaction, loyalty, and commitment can cause problems in relation to employee retention. Employees are no longer looking to work for one place for the rest of their life and make an average wage. They are always looking for ways to advance in their careers. If these needs are not met by the organizations, this will lead to turnover. Individual employee performance can also lead to problems in retention. Motivation is the key. When employees have insufficient support to get tasks accomplished, their level of motivation...

...Training and Development My needs assessment for my course project is going very well. I handed out twenty-five surveys around my office and surrounding offices. I informed them it was for school purposes and to be candid as they would not be viewed by anyone within our office. I only have about 5 still out and expect them back this week. The early results appear to be following right along the major study conducted last year of our organization. I have an appointment with our organizational training development lead this Monday to discuss the original survey and its intent. Along with the results, I expect to discover how it was decided to determine the questions. How the results were used to set up a training plan is also on my agenda. One issue I discovered was how I was going to track the data from the survey. I decided on a simple Excel Spreadsheet to take an initial look at the data. This gives a great overview quickly. I simply take each survey and enter the selection into the spreadsheet and review the total numbers after. The data can also be utilized in a graph for analysis. I also decided to use paper surveys instead of doing it online because of security issues. I discussed it with my supervisor and we came to the conclusion that our security office might have issue with it. So to ward off any possible conflict I decided paper. Other than that there were no issues with doing the survey. When looking at the individual level analysis I...

Problem Solution In today’s global economy, the pace of competition and change has accelerated. Organizations of all types need employees that can think in new ways so the organization can sustain its performance and continue to grow. Creativity is taking ideas beyond the normal boundaries and innovation is using the available skills and resources to create new product and service offerings, process technologies, and enabling technologies (Davila, 2006, p. 35). The process of managing creativity and innovation can improve the organizational effectiveness because “all innovation begins with creative ideas” (Jones, 2004, p 409). Best Snacks Inc. must implement organizational strategies that support innovation and the development of new products and services as well as implement a program designed to increase its employees’ creative thinking skills. Additionally, Best Snacks Inc. should also make changes to its management systems. In this paper, I will describe the issues Best Snacks, Inc. is facing as well as its opportunities to implement a creative and innovative environment that will enable the company to regain its industry leader status, increase sales, and to reverse its downward trending stock price. ...Employee Engagement - Development Class: Leadership and Organizational Behavior This research analyzes the significance of employee development programs that emphasizes on employee engagement. It also focuses on the organization involvement in career development plans. As analysis methods, we created a survey that was issued to friends and family. We also conducted a focus group with an undergraduate class. The results determined that training and development will increase employee engagement. The purpose of this project is to understand and analyze the importance of employee development programs. Not focusing on one organization allows the project to be a general overview. This project will provide conclusions and recommendations for employee engagement. There is no single formula for creating an employee development program, but there are some important components that should be considered. A truly effective employee development program should include learning, career planning, goal setting, and evaluation. These areas will help the program be beneficial to the employees who utilize and to the organization that provides it. Without them, the employee development reverts back to being simply thinking. According to Schein, Organizations today are undergoing a metamorphosis. Whether one thinks of it as “downsizing,””rightsizing,””flattening,” becoming a “learning organization,” or simply as “transformations” into something as yet unknown, no one would challenge...

...Organizational Psychology The organizational psychology, developed from the human relations movement in the organizations, shows more interest in the employee than the industrial psychology, which focuses on understanding the behavior and the welfare of employees. Organizational topics include employee attitudes, behavior, work-related stress, and monitoring techniques (What is organizational Psychology, 2009). However, the main subjects of the area of the psychology organizational should not be categorized as strictly industrial or organizational. For example, the motivation is important for industrial psychology in relation to efficiency and the performance of employees, but is also very important for the organizational psychology, the happiness and welfare of employees. The organizational psychology can be improved with contributions from marketing and with techniques as a result of the search for a better quality. A couple of cases of this kind are market research studies and the creation of clubs of consumers or users who helps to know the factors and facilitate the retention of brands and products in the minds of consumers as well as his loyalty to them (Steve M Jex, Thomas W Britt, 2008). Without a doubt, the importance of organizational psychology allows to understand the human phenomena within the organization in its relations with the rest of the organizational system. Role of the Organizational Psychologist Psychologists must study human behavior within...

...management culture involves organizational practices and procedures related to communication about errors, learning from errors, sharing error knowledge, helping in error situations, and quickly detecting, analyzing, and resolving errors (Van Dyck et al., 2013). Strong error management culture has been found to positively influence organizational and employee outcomes (Van Dyck et al., 2005; Guchait, et al., 2016). Work engagement refers to a positive, fulfilling, work-related state of mind that is characterized by vigor, dedication, and absorption (Schaufeli et al., 2002a). Research has indicated that low work engagement leads to negative work-related outcomes (poor performance and attitudes) (Schaufeli et al., 2004; Ram et al., 2011) Given the health and safety issues prevalent in the hospitality industry, it is important to identify factors that impact employee health. While previous research has identified burnout, job engagement and job empowerment as predictors of employee health, there are several research gaps in the hospitality industry area. Building on several research fields (psychology, business, health, and hospitality), the current research identifies organizational error management culture and employee work engagement as predictors of employee health in hospitality organizations. Define the scope and goals of the proposed research The purpose of this research is twofold. First, this study will examine if organizational error management culture impacts physiological...

...The Impact of Culture on Human Resource Management Practices: An Empirical Research Finding in Indonesia Suharnomo-Diponegoro University-Indonesia +628156581301 Abstract The objective of the study is to investigate and analyze the influence of culture on human resource management practices. The research is expected to answer the importance question: Are HRM practices influenced by national culture or not? It is generally accepted that the practices of management is considered to be universal until Hofstede (1980:42) published the seminal work: Culture’s Consequences: International Differences in Work Related Value in 1980. Hofstede’s work is the most popular in cross culture management studies so that his framework in national culture will be used in this research. The research was done by using the survey method. The respondents were 108 managers of HRM from the listed companies of Jakarta Stock Exchange 2007. Structural equation model (SEM) with Two Step Model Building Approach is used to test structural theory. It is used to test the hypotheses model statistically to determine the extent to which the proposed model is consistent with the sample data. SEM incorporates both confirmatory factor analysis and multiple regressions to estimate a series of interdependent relationship simultaneously. The results of descriptive analysis indicate that the national culture dimensions tend high for collectivism, power distance, masculinity and uncertainty avoidance...

...INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT Abstract Over the years information technology (IT), has increasingly become an important factor and fundamental to support organizational processes and development. When one hears the terms Information Technology and Organizational Development, one may think of two different completely opposite entities and industries. However, there are many theories that recognize information technology (IT) as a critical infrastructure in many organizations and also developing as an effective contributor to organizational performance. In this paper, I will determine if there’s an association between the two industries as it relates to organization development efforts of an organization. ...company. Having an organized storage method for customer information makes it easier to help the customers and increases productivity within the organization. Change Management Plan Riordan’s central power structure comes from its executive team, which consists of Dr. Riordan President, his Chief Operating Officer (COO), and his Senior Vice President of Research and Development. Of the three, the COO could hold the most political power, as he is responsible for all aspects of operations outside of research and development. The Sales and Marketing Vice President, Chief Information Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Operations Vice President all report to him. This position gives him substantial political power, enough to strongly influence organizational decision-making. Creating a Customer Management System (CMS) is an endeavor that affects more than just Riordan’s sales and marketing divisions. Since it involves historical records and the complete integration of all customer related records, multiple departments are key stakeholders in the project. Fortunately for Riordan, the company’s organizational structure is set up as a functional organization, which should help...

...EMPLOYEE ATTITUDES AND JOB SATISFACTION Lise M. Saari and Timothy A. Judge This article identifies three major gaps between HR practice and the scientific research in the area of employee attitudes in general and the most focal employee attitude in particular—job satisfaction: (1) the causes of employee attitudes, (2) the results of positive or negative job satisfaction, and (3) how to measure and influence employee attitudes. Suggestions for practitioners are provided on how to close the gaps in knowledge and for evaluating implemented practices. Future research will likely focus on greater understanding of personal characteristics, such as emotion, in defining job satisfaction and how employee attitudes influence organizational performance. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. “Happy employees are productive employees.” “Happy employees are not productive employees.” We hear these conflicting statements made by HR professionals and managers in organizations. There is confusion and debate among practitioners on the topic of employee attitudes and job satisfaction— even at a time when employees are increasingly important for organizational success and competitiveness. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to provide greater understanding of the research on this topic and give recommendations related to the major practitioner knowledge gaps. As indicated indirectly in a study of HR professionals (Rynes, Colbert, & Brown, 2002), as well as based on our experience, the major...

Table of Content Introduction 3 Training and development 4 Teamwork 5 Employee/Organizational Communication 6 Emphasis on Reward 7 Corporate culture and organizational commitment 8 References 9 Introduction The employee attitude on organizational commitment has changed nowadays; they would no longer want to stay with a particular company for their whole working life. In the past, employees might be happy to remain in the organization where it could provide good job security. However, the competitive pressure from their competitors has made many organizations reluctant to focus on downsizing, restructuring therefore created less job security provided to employees. With the idea of finding a new job, employees therefore might demotivate with their current job and underperform in the organization. It will become a huge issue for the organization to achieve their objectives as no organizations in fact, can survive in today’s competitive world unless their employees work effectively and are committed to the organization’s goals.
